  1. I had the head of my first 4dsm and obviously replaced it but cant for the life of me remember on what criteria I set for retightening the studs. I have always been surrounded by "old hands" so something will have been decidided by the "elders and I,ll have gone with that Or if I was in defiant mood I,l have looked at a similar situation on something else and used the first specified torque setting that I judges to be in a similar role
  2. Having had a quick look through m manual there are no specs for torque. However as I understand these things there are recognised rates of torque for diameters and thread pitch of differing sizes so you should get a guidef rom that. Timleech or some one with an engineering background wil confirm or deny this

  4. Which is what I was trying to say nicely. The cylinder head looks a similar stamp but thtas about it!!
  5. In all honesty your engine is a good modern equivalent and refined bringing it into the new millenium. They would have done it sooner only the old 4108 s soldiered on with all kinds of abuse so they didnt need to do anything. Eventually the 4108s started to dissapear by natural wastage and the inevitable "Export markets" which is a testament to any products endurance. A replacement design was inevitable and with emissions etc etc the likes of yours was born, so rather than graduated development a wholesale uprating was done overnight. Hope that helps
  6. With respect your engine bears only a passing similarity to a 4108. Yours is radically altered and would be hard to find any similarities. They are in effect two compeletly different engines and yours is like a high speed 125 as against a Flying Sscotsman
  7. Yes its an unfair statement to say NOISEY without qualification. They will invariably be encased but in an open mounting such as an engine room you would need ear defenders

  9. The facts, 1 Old 2 Noisey 3 Ubiquitous once over 4 Will last forever if its been looked after 5 Great spares availability 6 low tech simple and made of stuff you can hammer grind and weld
  10. try running 24 volts through it that,ll get the b...r spionning! All jokes aside a short time wont do any harm. Good luck jUST READ ORIGINAL POST AND IT IS 24Vdoh! PROBABLY WELL DOWN ON VOLTAGE jUST HAD ALOOK AT YOUR PROFILE AND SEE YOU WERE THE ONE WHO BOUGHT THE BARGE FROM bLUE WATER gOOD LUCK IT LOOKED A GOOD BOAT
  11. after standing for two years there will be shortages of oil all over the engine. More damage will be done to these dry surfaces in a few seconds than will have been sustained in the previous lifetime of the engine. Make sure the engine is cranked over a good few dozen times to get the oil around and even then you arnt guaranteed a satisfactory outcome
  12. A small one can be quickly hidden and is virtually silent in operation, thus can be quickly stowed and combined with a nonchalant expression and anyone could have been responsible for the offending bruise
