  1. Thank you all for your input... lots of good advice... we've gone down the route of keeping one and selling other... but we both want different things from our boats now, being live aboard.... and it would always be my boat or his boat! So we want 'our' boat!!
  2. hello everyone! it's been a while since I've contributed on the forums! life has a tendency to take over somewhat! just a few quick questions really. My partner and I are both wanting to sell our narrowboats to enable us to buy one together. I've looked at some brokerages and feel that the 7.5% commission on each boat is somewhat extreme! Any suggestions/ideas of how to get around this? anyone know of any good brokers who don't charge the earth re commission? Someone has mentioned putting them on Apollo duck ourselves....is that the best way to go? sorry. Lots of questions I know, but no harm in asking!! enjoy the day y'all
  3. Hi Y'all just a quick question.... it's that time again...Boat needs her bottom re-coated. She has been done with comastic (& coflex at another time) Can't remember where I purchased my last lot from, so has anyone any ideas as to where the best (and cheapest) place to purchase it from would be? I'll need 20 litre (60ft boat x 2 coats!) :-)
  4. Just want to say a BIG THANK YOU to all you lovely people! I sent the link for this thread over to my friends and they've taken on board (scuse the pun!!) all your suggestions! I will be popping over next weekend so will see what they used and how it worked!!
  5. wow! thanks for the responses everyone! there is so much good advice that I'm going to send them the link for this thread so they can read it and try out for themselves!! personally I've always used the low tac craftmaster tape...comes off dead easy!! (but that's not much help to them in this particular instance! :-( ) oh...and oops for posting this in wrong place!!
  6. Hi Y'all, just a quick question..some lovely friends of mine made the mistake of using normal masking tape on their boat ...left it on for a couple of days and now are having an awful time trying to get the stuff off!!! I tried helping today by using warm water and gentle rubbing....it's going to take ages like that...so ...does anyone have any ideas on what they could use to speed the removal along??? ta muchly!
  7. isn't that the moorings where you have to boat across for access?
  8. Think I may well look at whixall marina but I ideally would like to be canalside, as my previous mooring was a brilliant canalside with a huge grass & tree garden....sigh! thanks boots, rang that number a couple of weeks ago and nothing available!
  9. Had a look there yesterday Paul...it looked pretty full, in that I only saw one space and they could well have been out cruising! I'll perservere with the search and if it's meant to be it will be!!!
  10. you're a star!! thank you so much :-) ah yes I know what you mean re "busy" but that at this moment in my life may well be a good distraction!
  11. right, thank you tree monkey....I think I need to either jump in the car/and or put on the walking boots to go search...work commitments stop me from taking the boat for a nosey until maybe easter time!! If anyone sees any contact numbers if they are passing any would be soooo grateful for them!!!!
  12. oooh right, thank you LoneWolf.... will these be found on their website??
  13. really??? damn, really fancied going onto the Llangollen for a while....need a change of scenery!!
  14. It's been a while since I've posted so sorry if this is in the wrong place! Have looked to see if it's been discussed before but can't find anything. To cut a long story short, Myself and friends are looking to moor on the llangollen for a change...but how on earth do you go about finding canalside moorings apart from scootling up and down the Llangollen on our boats ???!!! Does anyone on here know of any? mines 60ft and theirs is 70ft....a lot to ask I know, but there are so many "wise" bods on here I thought it would be worth asking! ty in advance!!
  15. Firstly, apologies if there is already a thread on this, but I couldn't find it! My partner is looking to buy a new engine for his 70ft Narrowboat. At the moment he has a Lister Petter 42 which has seen much better days! Only problem is we haven't got a clue where to start looking for one. Any guidance/help would really be appreciated. (have looked online but we keep going around in circles!!) cheers
  16. firstly. apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong section!! My one year old canvas cratch cover has/is going somewhat green in places...this seems to have appeared quite suddenly (but I've no doubt it's been lurking for a while!) Anyone here got some good advice on how best to clean it, other than popping off to get some car canvas hood cleaner??? ta muchly Caz
  17. thank you so much again everyone...and Allan thats so clear...thank you! nervously looking forward to it now!!!!
  18. this is brilliant advise, thanks everyone! Allan my boat is 60 ft and we're going up towards Chester ....feeling slightly nervous have to admit!!
  19. Hi everyone, am going through some wide locks (for the first time) this weekend and as a comparative novice I could do with some advice. If you are in the lock on your own is it best to use the middle rope to steady the boat?, as I've heard the boat can be bounced around a bit...and....even if there is someone sharing the lock....would you still do this? Any sensible advice gratefully received as I'm feeling a tad apprehensive as this is my first cruise since I injured my arm in an accident . (I will have crew but they will be even more 'novice' than me!! thanks in advance!
  20. Thanks for the link, shall take a look! Nothing came up when I searched before, but there again, I am trying to do this on an annoying mobile phone !!
  21. Now that the sun is starting to show itself more often, it's time to give the boat a good wash & polish. Can anyone recommend a good tried & tested polish? Don't want to be spending precious cruising time rubbing polish off...so any recommendations for a painless wash & polish session gratefully received!
  22. I thought my cat wouldn't take to the boat, but I couldn't have been more wrong....I've never seen her so 'chilled'...she loves it! I'm sure you have very good reasons for believing your cat would struggle on a boat, but have you actually tried it?
  23. Have used this shop on numerous occasions for fresh veg which has always been great....never meat products as I'm vegetarian so can't comment on these.. it's been very handy....but have noticed of late that the shop has expanded to include what I can only call..'tat'...cheap little souveniers etc... from a health and safety point of view you have to walk over the lock gate to get to it...that's fine if you're able-bodied, but I would have thought far from ideal.... I wander if CART have actually looked at the health and safety aspects of where it is situated......
