  1. The Federation uses the apostrophe but many individual clubs don't. Who's right or wrong I don't know but it looks tidier without the apostrophe on logos/signs IMHO.
  2. I think most clubs/ societies with similar titles (eg young farmers clubs) leave out the apostrophe.

    Heating

I would reverse the statement to consider the stove as the main source of heating in the winter and the Alde to supplement that. You will find that the stove will probably provide all the heat you need but it is very handy to have a supplementary system for warmer times when the stove would be too hot or when you want to heat water without running the engine or hooking up to mains. You will probably find you use the Alde very little but will be glad you have it.
  4. Mine is an 2002 John White and I've had no problems at all. Very pleased with the design and survey in 2006 was fine. (Now it will probably sink!)
  5. Thin carpet on the underside of mine, there are no drips or gaps and it doesn't impede it from sliding. I suppose it depends how it all fits whether this is a possible option.

  7. I've tried two different types of "holster" style holders which are ok but the windlass does tend to clatter against the boat as you walk down the gunnels. I prefer using a firm belt and slotting the windlass in at the base of my back.

  10. Yes I have just used Owatrol on my gas locker. Seemed to do the job but as you say did take a couple of days to dry
  11. Agree. I bought a boat that had been fitted out by a carpenter. I had the boat surveyed prior to purchase and the surveyor said the quality and detail of fit out was better than many professional fit outs. It turned out to be the right decision to buy it.
  12. I nearly let mine go out yesterday then bottled it at the last minute and revived it
  13. I had an extending pole fitted which goes through the cratch attached to the front bulkhead by a clamp and out through a collared hole in the roof. Pushes up from inside the cratch and can also be rotated. Works a treat and when travelling the aerial sits neatly on the roof with the pole is retracted.
  14. ame='Water Woman' post='504384' date='Mar 16 2010, 09:25 PM']This thread has got me thinking. I am going to be having a few crew members who have had little or no experience with locks and I will be steering on my journey towards Cheshire. I will talk them through locks and do a couple with them but do you know of anything I can print off re locking up and locking down that will act as guides for them to look at now and then? Or am I over worrying. I have done so many locks myself that I believe the person doing the lock has more to do than open the gates. Any ideas of what I could print off for my inexperienced crew members? The boaters handbook in www.waterscape.com contains a comprehensive lock guide that you can print off. www.waterscape.com/media/documents/1784.pdf edited to add full web address
  15. I try not to but if I see someone in my peripheral vision I will look to exchange waves! I try and acknowledge everyone- fellow boaters, walkers, and even fishermen!
  16. That is a lot of miles of waterways and obviously some areas are better than others but the contrast is all part of the fun for me. You'll get a sense of where more caution is needed.
  17. Nice spot. Too handy for "Owd Nells" pub though, hope you've got strong will-power!
  18. Mine does the same, very occasionally a short few second burst. No apparent leaks so I agree nothing to worry about.
  19. www.canalplan.org.uk will give you all the timings you need and you can download information for Ribble Link on www.waterscape.com. Everything you mention can be done single-handed.
  20. No specific visitor moorings on ours but if a berth- holder goes out they will sublet it on his behalf so usually some availability during the summer.
  21. Don't know, but in a previous thread apparently BW have written to them informing them that boats were permitted to moor there. If I moored there and was challenged by them I would certainly ask the question.
  22. I think you do have a point here. There isn't a mooring restriction but the sad fact is that most people probably wouldn't moor there because of the signs. Ironically in the many years I've sailed this stretch I've never seen a boat moored there even before the signs were put up!
  23. Couldn't think of a nicer venue for the next boat club outing!
