  1. Another vote for the Lock Inn, Wolverley: Good food and beer at reasonable prices with moorings above and below the lock. A walk up Kinver Edge is worth while, with a visit to the cave houses. There's a good laundrette in Stourport
  2. I've never had a significant issue with any volunteers in my many encounters throughout the network. Pretty much without exception, I've found them friendly and procedurally correct. It's strange how people's experiences vary. This was posted by someone on FB tonight and I would agree with their comments on the Curdworth team: We came down Curdworth Locks yesterday and I must congratulate the team of volunteers who both help boaters through the locks, and carry out the maintenance alongside, and between the locks on the flight, plus the basic lock maintenance. The whole flight is absolutely pristine, grass cut, weeds removed, paddles and gates greased, just a couple of paddles out of order and bagged; resolution of which is not within their remit! Such a pleasant contrast to some other areas! Shows the advantage of a well motivated team of volunteers. Well done lads and lasses, a real treat to work through your flight!!! 👍👍👍👍

  4. You can have a small utility area between the bedroom and the rear doors on a standard layout where coats, boots etc can be removed and stored. It's a handy place to install a washing machine too.
  5. This is the first sentence on my licence renewal email received yesterday: Thank you for purchasing a long term boat licence. Two copies of this are printed below. Please fix one to each side of your boat so that they can be clearly seen from the outside. They ask for us to display them so why not just do it until told otherwise? It's really not difficult.
  6. My Craftinsure policy states im the terms and conditions: "You possess a current Canal & River Trust or Environment Agency Licence, or the equivalent Licence from the local Navigation Authority as appropriate, and a current Boat Safety Certificate".
  7. A well organised, efficient single-hander can be more beneficial to share locks with than many crews.
  8. And just to add to the misery: https://mandrillapp.com/track/click/10513099/canalrivertrust.org.uk?p=eyJzIjoienVoMmdzaXMtZHF2UURVNUZNZUpUSWVDY3FvIiwidiI6MSwicCI6IntcInVcIjoxMDUxMzA5OSxcInZcIjoxLFwidXJsXCI6XCJodHRwczpcXFwvXFxcL2NhbmFscml2ZXJ0cnVzdC5vcmcudWtcXFwvbm90aWNlXFxcLzIyNTUwXFxcL2JyYWRsZXlcIixcImlkXCI6XCJkYzdlMTk5ZmI0N2E0YzllYWMyOWUzMTVmYWJkZDU0N1wiLFwidXJsX2lkc1wiOltcIjA2YjgzYWVlMjc1MWE2ODdlZTEzMzVhMmYyZWFiYTdjN2I1NjY2YTRcIl19In0 Just noticed that was also on your list!
  9. Turners must have gone up 4p since Monday as they were 125.9
  10. Can you reference that policy?
  11. I disagree. Why put the agreement ar risk for the sake of a simple, free online booking?
  12. Very true. This was exactly the case once when we went through; we ended up giving a training session to hirers who were working out what to do from both directions and helped them through.
  13. I'm chuckling to myself as I remember the time I was in the queue and assisting passage when the lockkeeper went for his lunch. For some reason everyone then looked to me for direction to which I felt duty-bound! Tempers were beginning to fray a little and I was pleased when it was my turn to go so I could relinquish the responsibility!
  14. Precisely this. I've just changed a couple of mine which were fine apart from the junction with metal plumbing where they were cracking and starting to leak.
  15. Gargrave to Foulridge is one of the most scenic sections on the network.
  16. I had the same concern before having my panels fitted, but ended up with some slimline ones (150w each) which left a comfortable walkway on either side.

  18. Scruffy boats are one thing, but when the scruffiness spills onto the towpath it is unacceptable. The same scruffiness often goes hand- in-hand with breaches of the rules and antisocial behaviour. It's hardly surprising that this creates resentment from not only the general public but responsible boaters too.
  19. I actually think the article is quite balanced, outlining the need for Government support and the the rationale for justifying this, whilst recognising the importance of boating.
  20. To be fair, in this issue there is a very good article on the future funding of CRT: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/boating/boating-blogs-and-features/the-boaters-update/boaters-update-3-december-2021?utm_source=mailchimp&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=boating_2021

  22. Yes, that's what I use. Tesa Moll Thermo Cover: 4m X 1.5 m covers 5 typical "bus style" windows and, importantly, the tape peels off easily without leaving a residue on the wooden frame. I have used it for years and found it very effective and unobtrusive.
  23. If you do a good job of fitting it without creases (a bit of an art but possible with care) it can be almost invisible.
  24. In my case, the hopper brackets are attached by two screws which can easily be removed.
