  1. It could be either. A quality fitout would be real wood, painted white if required or varnished according to taste. A cheaper fitout would be MDF.

    Bargain?

If it doesn’t have full RCD certification then the seller is committing an offence by selling it. That could be another reason why it’s cheap.
  3. It doesn’t actually matter that much what the D.C. voltage is. You can get 12V adaptors that supply all sorts of voltages.
  4. Mr D’s is a kind of 21st century version of that
  5. Yes, we used it regularly on the boat and in the caravan.
  6. Me too. Okay, only a single experience, but it was enough for me to say ‘never again’.
  7. Mr D’s Thermal Cooker is another option. https://mrdscookware.com
  8. They’ll get knackered sooner or later whatever you do. Fully charging them only fortnightly will simply hasten that a bit. You’re right that solar will make a huge difference.
  9. C/10 instead of C/20 will demonstrate it. It’s only slight but it’s there. You also lose energy by heating the battery more on a higher discharge.
  10. Perhaps they legged it... :::coat:::
  11. A drop of 20mm per minute is going to catch anyone out.

I’m with you on that. The more traditional plug-hole-at-the-bottom is far more to my taste.
  13. One reaction that you missed out (although not immediately pertinent to the point you were making) is pore clogging, which occurs rapidly with a high discharge current. The pores get clogged with sulphate and the only way to remove that sulphate is with a 14.4V+ charge. It won’t recover on its own. That is one of the reasons why you have to put more energy back into the battery after a fast discharge than you do after a slow discharge. Yet another argument for having as many batteries as practical.

Looks like it. That’s one way of keeping the cable run short.
  15. The purpose of this is of course simply to protect the supplier from prosecution. If they have shown that they only supply to purchasers who have letterheaded orders then they’ve done reasonable due diligence. I doubt if they care who they sell to (a sale is a sale) as long as they can demonstrate that they’ve done nothing illegal.
  16. Personally I’d go Sugar Soap —> Zinser. Don’t bother sanding, you won’t need to with Zinser. As I wrote in post #2, you can use whatever finish coat you like; there’s nothing whatsoever wrong with emulsion paint if that’s the look you’re after.

No shots of the engine bay either. Just the lipstick.
  18. Where are you? Cox Automotive in Atherstone could repair it. I’m picking up a repaired alternator from them on Wednesday as it happens.
