Hi All
Can anyone recommend somewhere to moor our boat for about 4 days once we get off the Thames at Brentford? We wish to start our journey over the weekend, and then go back to work, and return to the boat, say, the following Wednesday to continue our journey, so are looking for somewhere safe for a few days. Happy to pay for a marina berth if there might be one.
I am probably being lazy not looking into this myself, but I always consider that the CWDF is the best place to start
Thanks
Jo.

Hello, OP here.
Don't get me wrong, I am not against spiders, and happy to have some on board and I love the webs they weave and the flies that they catch and all that stuff.
Just love my curtains too, and want to dissuade them from certain parts of the boat if possible.
However, at the very least you have all helped me appreciate there are far more uses for conkers than I originally envisaged, so thank you for that
Jo.

Thanks will try puncturing the conkers then, and put out a bit of citrus. Has anyone tried peppermint oil?
Thanks for the laughs too.

Yes, have always considered that having spiders was a sign that the boat is not damp, would just like to have less of them living in my curtains.
We don't live on board, otherwise we would definitely have a cat, although not sure the cat would help much with this.

Hi all
Our new mooring seems to be a haven for spiders and we are seeing them in the boat in bigger numbers than ever before. We have tried conkers on all the window ledges, etc. but this has not reduced the visitor numbers
I just wondered if anyone living afloat has some tips on what to use to deter (but not kill) spiders.
Thanks
Jo

I hid in the cabin as soon as I saw the cameras....
Are you on the run?

Blimey, i didn't know it was possible to get a mooring near Guildford. Are there any others available? I'd be all over that like a peado in a playground!
Hi Junior, we have been on the waiting list for a National Trust mooring on the Wey since 2005.
We are already at Farncombe Boathouse (on the Wey), but NT moorings are cheaper. If we don't take this offer, then it will be snapped up don't you worry!!
J.
Twinpot, thanks for your comments. Security is the thing. The Lengthsman said 1 break-in 2 years' ago, which I suppose is not too bad. The sewerage works does not bother me too much, as we never stay on the mooring to entertain. Will go and have a little look.

Hello All
We have been offered a mooring above Stoke Lock, Guildford.
If any CWDF members know this area, I would very much appreciate any opinions on the suitability of these moorings, particularly the security of the site. We hope to visit on Saturday, and have cruised past here many times, but not sure..........
Thanks
Jo.

I think that you can get information about the Guildford Boat Rally from The National Trust office at Dapdune Wharf. But basically it is being held Saturday (best day) and Sunday near Millmead Lock, Guildford.

Hi Richard
Yes, arrive Friday evening
Home on Sunday afternoon.
We will be moored on the meadowside.

Anyone going to the Guilford Boat Rally this year?
Just wondered if I would have any CWDF members to say hello to
Jo.

Congratulations to everyone who made this trip. We walked Deepcut on Saturday before you got there. It was looking lonely

Just wanted to say bon voyage to all those boats going up the Basingstoke Canal this weekend. I hope the weather stays nice for you. We will be walking the tow path at some stage over the weekend - what a sight it will be!
Jo.

Jo - my understanding that this is the 'test' for the canal and that if things work as expected it is likely to open (albeit on a restricted basis at first) from about the middle of April. You are most welcome to come along and help but please do contact the Canal Authority on 19252 370073.
Thanks for this.

Fed up that we cannot join this cruise after all. We could not get enough time off work, an engine mounting has sheared off, trying to get to TLC at Byfleet to get the work done, but the River keeps going into flood, and we cannot get under Broadford Bridge!
Having said that, we will try to come along on one day to help with locks, perhaps?
Will the Brookwood and Deepcut flights be open after Easter, or are they just being opened for this cruise? We definitely want to go as soon as we are able. Only got to the bottom of Brookwood flight last time.

Welcome back Panacea!
Nothing's changed - the ducks still tap on the side of the boats

We would very much like to come to this.
Please can you put C'est la Vie on the list of possible entries.
Many thanks

Yello,
Here's the first piece of flotsum from Bell Weir strikng my dingy a glancing blow at 5 to 6 knots !!
Just the 3-4 tonne Birchwood cruiser to come now .... although it looks like it may sink and come downstream in big pieces.
Not impressed !
Malc.
Poor you Malc! It must be very stressful, having to keep a watchful eye on what is coming downsteam all the time.
There are lots of Highs about living on the Thames, but this is one of the Lows.
Take care
Jo.

Yello,
Well I'm moored in the weir stream at Bell Weir, Runnymede ..... with 9 out of 9 gates wide open ..... my pontoon is completely submerged and even the far end of my scaffold boards temporary gang plank is submerged !
Malc.
Take care guys! x

I know that on the canals you need a "BW" key to unlock water points etc, and round our way in East Anglia, we need an Abloy EA key for the same.
But what about the Thames, Wey etc? I'm.curious because I can't remember and I've done a bit of a search on Google but haven't come to a conclusion. Do you need a key for waterpoints etc? Is it the standard "BW key" or an EA one and if so , is it different to the Anglian EA key?
No key required for the River Wey.
Main water points at:
Thames Lock, Weybridge, (use own hosepipe)
Cartbridge Wharf, Send (not sure about hosepipe, as have not stopped here for water myself)
Dapdune Wharf, Guildford (there is a hosepipe here)
Godalming Wharf, Godalming (use own hosepipe)

Thanks Chris. Will keep that in mind.
Thanks Scholar Gypsy - unfortunately Willowtree too far to get to in the time available, also we will be carrying on up the GU to Braunston, not going in to London.
We are looking at and around Brentford really.
