  1. When they build a marina...there is no water.....get it ?

They have to ask CART for water...and agree to conditions in order the get water. They have to apply for connection to the canal.

The water belongs to CART...just as in the canal transport days when individual companies owned their own water.  I seem to remember there were two companies at Fradley ...and as they emptied the lock they pumped their own water back...not because they were short of water...but because it belonged to them.

True a marina is private...but without water...it is a rather dry affair ...but then you know that ..and think it's funny to write c**p

Yep and there is one place at the very upstream end of Beale Park, almost to the railway bridge, that still has a no mooring sign on the posts.  So I do tend to think the boater removing them is true.  There were a couple of hire boats there when we came past, so I suspect Beale Park are not moving people on.

    I guess...that a  'boater ripping them down.."....gives a feel for the problem...

    ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

    What have the waterways become...

Whilst the “no mooring” signs have gone, they have not been replaced by the “24 hour mooring” signs that were there before.  I was told by a lock keeper about 10 days ago that it was a boater that had removed the signs, and not Beale Park.  So we don’t know if they are waiting for new no mooring signs, or are just going to let it ride as it is.  There are signs at the lock downstream at least saying that there is no mooring there.  At this time of year at least,  plenty of space at Pangbourne.

Hence my headline .." or not"...?

I was also told that they had put up " no mooring" signs...but a boater had ripped them down. One or two of the upright posts...do have screws with the remains of new looking signs ...plus there are a lot more posts than before.

  4. Came past the extensive moorings at Beal Park on the Thames  a few weeks back.

For the information of others, you can no longer moor there...which means that other places further up are now pretty congested. The signs have been taken down.

Sadly this has been brought about by the thoughtless and disgusting actions of a small minority of boaters.

The Covid crisis seems to have launched a whole load of ill equipped, old cheap cruisers onto the rivers. I've never seen so many as I did on this trip.

When we booked into our marina we were told we still have to license our boat "as it's CRT water" How does a licence free marina work or is my marina wrong?

There's about 8 or 10 marinas that are fed by non CART waters.

I'm on a tiny river while in the marina...but canal when I leave.

    They are like..gold dust ?

You can buy an Explorer licence for £170 that gives you 30 days to use per year on the CRT waters at your own leisure.

Might be cheaper than the 3 month licence you mention......I learned this from a CRT phone conversation earlier this year.

    I go out....for 3 months ...or more...

    That's over 90 days...

My narrowboat is only 42 feet so pretty cheap anyway. I just did 3 months up to Coventry then back to Newbury.

  7. I recently saw a complete house 3d printed.

Boeing currently 3d print about 60,000 parts for their planes...and Airbus similar.

Computers can control milling machines and build cars.

Rather than scratching about with bits of wood and traditional tools...could they not come up with a big 3d print machine that works 24/7 without tea breaks...and could just have a few measurements entered to make gates ?.

    ?

    ?

  8. I'm in a licence free marina. If I'm going out I buy a three month license and then extend it if I need more. I declare the boat off water when I'm back.

I told CART if I'm out and extend ..I have no way of printing it and they've said that's fine as display isn't essential. They've ' walkers,' don't look for a licence..they just enter your boat number.

  9. I took out a mooring at Brinklow in 2007 and was there for 2 years.

It was very difficult to get hold of anyone to actually reserve and find a space. Nobody answered the phone or emails, although the website looked good.

When I did get an appointment there, it proved difficult to get into the locked gate and I had to eventually climb over.

It was rather new then and there was a pioneering spirit .... mainly amongst the boaters.

    Promises of launderettes....showers.....cafes etc.....

The boaters were provided with thousands of daffodil bulbs which they enthusiastically planted to make it look nice.

    After that...nothing much happened.

Looking at the overhead plan it would appear much as it was.

I can't understand how it was just dumped like this when it would appear there is huge demand for marinas.

  10. I downloaded the NHS APP which links via Bluetooth. I have a Bluetooth lister on my phone which shows connection during the day. When I'm sitting in my car it shows me linked to cars next to me. When I stand in my local town waiting to cross the road , it links me to passing cars and people on passing buses ☹️

That means I could be told to isolate because a passing bus had a future Covid sufferer.

    Not so good ☹️

I have expereience of working during four Foot and Mouth outbreaks, this was controlled by cleaning, disinfecting and isolation, there was no vaccine.

And shooting the animals and burning them on big heaps ?

Bolton , Blackburn and  Birmingham ...that may work...?

    So what's new?

I think these are what's commonly referred to as "first world problems".

My advice is once things get back to normal (if that ever happens), take a trip to West Africa and see what sort of lives other human beings are leading and the situations that they are having to deal with. You might feel a bit more fortunate about your own life once you get back.

    Yes.

Some people in other parts of the world have rotten lives.

  13. I don't believe there will be a vaccine. They still haven't cured the ordinary cold.

    It's a virus....a virus doesn't live so you can't 'kill' it.

    I don't think we've ever cured a virus ?

I think...in my opinion....we will have to learn to live with it and cope in whatever way makes us personally feel safe.
