  1. My boat was built by Eastern caravans and leisure in 2001. I wanted it because its bog standard ...has the basics.....and I don't worry about it, The paint is from a Wilco tin ....and it may well be scratched.....but I wouldn't notice. Its just a means of traveling around the network. Has a Beta 37 and PRM....and all the usual... My last was a Reeves......and the polishing etc.....did me in.....
  2. Makes my diesel cheap.... That;s all I care about....nothing else matters.
  3. It's not composted though is it ? The question should be.... "Should boaters be allowed to crap in rubbish bins"?
  4. Yes.... I was trained by a cutting disc company...and a standard disc can heat...clog and shatter. They showed me some film of it...and its not pretty. The fragments easily penetrate a protective mask.......right down your forehead. There are special thin....aluminium discs available (type it in Ebay) You can also use an ordinary fine toothed.....carbide tipped wood/hand saw if the ally isn't too thick...you need to clamp it well..
  5. I buy those cylinder....plastic covered exercise weights...whenever I see them in charity shops ( 5 kilo...10 kilo etc) They are quite clean and neat. I put them under my lounge seats....and bottom of cupboards. I must have over 200 kilos now. As my loo tank fills up....I can shift some to the other side to keep us flying level. Works for me.
  6. I have this cooker. I fitted it myself......and we didn't use the boat much in the first year. In the second year we started to use it more......and it wouldn't stay alight. I contacted Thetford......and imagine my surprise that it was guaranteed for three years ! I then asked them how I could get it back to their service centre ?. They said....they don't expect people to do that...and they organised an engineers straight away. He turned up exactly on time....on a Saturday evening...and surmised that it needed a door switch on a bracket that he didn't have. I told him I wanted to move off on the Sunday morning...and he said " no problem...I'll phone and locate you". Sunday....4pm...he phoned......drove an hour to get to me.....and fully repaired it....all covered by the guarantee. Now that....is what I call....excellent service !
  7. My CCTV camera system was the main thing targeted by thieves...who gave me a nice V sign that was beamed to my phone before they disconnected it !
  8. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  9. I have no idea about loos.....but only a few months back I did have an issue with a Thetford oven. Reason I mention this...is because (unknown to many) the oven was guaranteed for three years ! Not sure if that applies to loos....but may be worth looking at. I emailed Thetford...and they came back to me after a week. My oven had been installed by me 18 months previous and so I 'assumed' the guarantee wouldn't work out...but it did !! They sent an engineer to find me...out on the cut ! I contacted him on a Saturday morning...and he said he would be there Saturday evening...and he was..dead on time ! He didn't have the part. I said I wanted to move off and I did. He phoned on Sunday to locate me.....arriving just after 4pm exactly as he said. I can't fault that for a £240 oven. It may not apply to you...but they did give me amazing service.
  10. My boat was broken into. I had a couple of nice phone photos emailed to me....of scrotes sticking up two fingers. They stole the cameras and the CCTV system, which was probably the only valuable thing on the boat ☹️
  11. I talked to my own marina owner about this. I didn't realise that marinas have to pay a yearly charge to CART for every space....even if there is not a boat in it. He said that it would be impossible to police it if CART allowed exemption for unoccupied spaces....so if you couple that with the yearly fee for connection to the canal network, you have significant outgoings.
  12. Interesting....a while back I met a retired chief constable who grew special herbs. He said....that he'd never done anything bad in his life and felt it was about time. Funny things......herbs ?
  13. Nope... Only person that matters is me. I like diesel...I have a diesel boat...and a huge kick ass engined diesel car.
  14. I like diesel. By the time the tree huggers have their way....I'll be dead and buried ...
  15. Plus you can always find the dipstick in a Skoda. It's behind behind the steering wheel...
  16. One of my " countryside here" videos... I get sort of...tongue tied, but it shows the effects of this foul railway..☹️☹️☹️
  17. I don't think that's as bad...as some of the so called religious people...who have sworn at me and barged me out of a Thames lock recently. God must be very forgiving and look after his own.
  18. When they build a marina...there is no water.....get it ? They have to ask CART for water...and agree to conditions in order the get water. They have to apply for connection to the canal. The water belongs to CART...just as in the canal transport days when individual companies owned their own water. I seem to remember there were two companies at Fradley ...and as they emptied the lock they pumped their own water back...not because they were short of water...but because it belonged to them. True a marina is private...but without water...it is a rather dry affair ...but then you know that ..and think it's funny to write c**p
  19. You're also not that bright. I'm not rising to your " bored" antagonising..? Silly boy. Bye.
  20. The answer here is simple WotEver. The ' checkers' often do the marinas. Leave this character be...in a Marina without a license.... and then let him enjoy the £150 fine that he can try and argue with CART. ??
  21. I guess...that a 'boater ripping them down.."....gives a feel for the problem... ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️ What have the waterways become...
  22. Hence my headline .." or not"...? I was also told that they had put up " no mooring" signs...but a boater had ripped them down. One or two of the upright posts...do have screws with the remains of new looking signs ...plus there are a lot more posts than before.
  23. Late September....all ' mooring allowed' signs removed....signs at the lock say ' mooring no longer allowed....and was told by Beale Park...moorings no longer allowed. I guess... moorings are no longer allowed ?
  24. Came past the extensive moorings at Beal Park on the Thames a few weeks back. For the information of others, you can no longer moor there...which means that other places further up are now pretty congested. The signs have been taken down. Sadly this has been brought about by the thoughtless and disgusting actions of a small minority of boaters. The Covid crisis seems to have launched a whole load of ill equipped, old cheap cruisers onto the rivers. I've never seen so many as I did on this trip.
