  1. escaping again afterwards
  2. interesting thought on Northwich built boats? what width is stated as these would have needed to pass the Shroppie? and what was the design width of Hurleston Locks? also why was the fitter in court not the hull builder?
  3. both the 1936 drawing for Grand Union Large Woolwich boats clearly state width as 7'05" this is printed in the bottom middle of the motor drawing and bottom right of the butty drawing I have copies of both drawings. my own boat was built to the motor drawing with the exception of length 70' instead of 70'6" and passed through the Hurleston locks without incident
  4. I have boated for over 30 years and still had to look it up! quite safe on here as cut folk always look out for each other! is it worth starting a thread on bad moorings / known problems for the less experienced amongst us
  5. excellent product used it on our computers (2) found 141 faults on laptop then we did the main OOh my God 1,233 both now run much faster but still can't load Andrew burges narrowboat pictures
  6. As OP still wants us to play hunt the lock ! i have looked it up !!! it is on Southern Oxford between Napton & Cropredy so well within the hunting ground of our favourite boat breaker!
  7. basic information is missing from your post OP LOCATION! towpath, non towpath, marina? it is always helpful to tell people where it occured as it may help form a pattern Mr Finch was doing boats 15 years ago mainly in the Buckby area and as said his usual pattern was easy to break into boats
  8. M&N Narrowboats were a two man company building boats in New Ollerton Newark Nottinghamshire went bust years ago M & M can't find anything tonight will carry on tomorrow and see if i can find them
  9. google chrome is better but yes it hangs frequently. we are home based with a wired ADSL router 2 computers sharing 1 modem/router so its nothing to do with being mobile.
  10. done the trip with 70ft narrowboat from selby reaching trent falls at low water, spent 1/2 hour going nowhere in full forward great fun, then riding the eagre up to keadby get a set of tidal charts there are 2 one for each river AND DO READ THEM before you set off the dangers of running aground are quite a big issue on the trent between W.stockwith (chesterfield canal) and Torksey (fossdyke) mainly when heading downstream on a falling tide telephone is useful if you don't have VHF and yes each lockkeeper has one
  11. I hope everyone makes the effort to support the latest victims the reason so many pubs are closing is simple PUBCO GREED They are squeezing the landlord with unsustainable rents and high priced beer I know I gave up a PUNCH TAVERNS house in Jan having been bled dry by the parasites at Burton on Trent
  12. have you tried Marine Engine Services at uxbridge I presume he is still going? or St Pancras club, someone there should be able to point you in the right direction
  13. would make a change from shopping trollies I grew up on the GU working boats and have spent most of my life on the cut. NEVER have i had to fight for a bridge, lock or anything if you go along at the right speed you can always give way only once have i got jammed in a bridge hole with another pair and that was in the late 60's in the foggy dew of an autumn morning!
  14. so long as you keep well away from locksides / narrow paths you can pitch up for the night on the canalbank in many locations used to do a bit of exploring with tent and bike along K&A, GU, Shroppie and had some good times
  15. BW have bitten the hand that feeds it once too often I gave up owning a boat years ago when the licence, moorings exceeded a justified spend now i hire and laugh at the self important owners that think they are better because they "own their boat" pointing out the fact that I was steering loaded pairs by the age of 5 soon puts the cat amongst the pidgeons so to speak
