  1. Thought this might be of interest. 'Inside Out' is reporting the lastest work/plans on The Ashby, The Derby and The Grantham Canal Monday 9th Oct 7.30pm BBC1. If you're out of the region you watch on SKY BBC1 East Midlands.
  2. what's ethylene glycol... a cleaning liquid? and what not?
  3. On an unattended narrowboat would you empty the water out of your tank and pipes over the winter months or not bother? I go and check on it every other week or so. Thanks!
  4. Freesat has more channels, however most are not worth watching. I have Freesat and you do miss out on DAVE, FIVER, FIVEUSA, YESTERDAY, VIGIN1 and several others. This is due is contract agreements with SKY and doesn't like to be sorted anytime soon.
  5. I'm looking for a 12v DVD player for the boat. Not one with a flip screen or the in-car type. I basically want one which looks the same as you'd get for the house. I've looked on Ebay and few other places and nothing? Are they out there? Thanks.
  6. thanks for this...! any idea how much charge it would give the batteries just running the outboard on tick over? a lot less than a gennie?
  7. the model i think i've got... says 12v intelligent 3 state battery charger (12 amp 12v) equalizer charge 14.6vdc floating charge 13.7vdc maximum current consumption of consumers when used as a mains unit max 12 amperes
  8. In addition to alot of other stuff the manual says input 110Vac or 230Vac +/- 10% Don't mean to sound stupid but this means nothing to me... does that mean a 1000w generator will cope charging? I just don't want to fork out on the gennie if its not going to do the job. Thanks!
  9. My battery charger is a Power Master Systems Ltd model. I've looked on the net and the company has ceased trading. It's wall mounted pretty thin in design and a 2006 model. Nowhere on it is a model number or voltage input? From the instructions it could be one of three PM-1212, PM-2512, PM5012 as the same instructions seem to be for all three. It's attached to 3 x 110 batteries - and this is purpose made from new. Would anyone know (assume) if I'd be ok charging when I'm away from the marina attaching a Honda EU1000 suitcase generator? Would it be worth my while or should i just use candles and read a book instead!?!
  10. Hi Tony, do you mean charge the batteries from the mains as I'm doing at present and then use the gennie as a power source to run the TV direct etc while I'm on the move?
  11. EU10i or EU20i... I'm thinking of buying one or the other and wondered if anyone had any advice. We use our boat at weekends and have three leisure batteries in a bank and these power the fridge, waterheater and bilge etc. They're on charge from mains all week and just last the weekend. Using a TV for a long periods pushes them too far and running the outboard doesn't top them up enough. There's no room to add any more batteries in our locker. So would either of these generators trickle charge the batteries enough or is it best to use them direct to the tv etc? Or does anyone use a 12v portable power pack like the ones you buy in Halfords? Many thanks!
  12. Thanks... think he's on to that. He's looking for someone who can talk about the entire region as a whole.
  13. I've got a friend who's making a TV programme for the BBC about the regeneration of the East Midland canals. Derby, Ashby and Grantham etc. Does anyone know a history and heritage expert to talk about their importance, the boom time, type of cargo on each etc. He's looking to film the interview on The Cromford in mid-September. Any help would be appreciated!
  14. http://www.twfoam.co.uk/index.php I used this company for my seats. No nonsense good supplier and all arrived through the post.
  15. 23" plus what for what would you say for the cushion 3"...? and these are seats on both side of the cabin?
  16. Hi, I'm having some fixed chairs fitted for dining on our boat... they'll be bench seat style either side of the cabin and a removable table in the middle. Has anyone got the same layout? if so what's the depth of your seats in total. Many thanks as always.
  17. hi spaceman... when you get chance have a look a my blog.. funny you should mention the anglers as that was the reason we were cruising the erewash! we encountered a few grumpy chaps not used to seeing many boats but most of the fishermen and women were friendly enough!
  18. I had a 1989 Springer for a few years and had the same problem. This was the company I ended up using. http://www.thirdpartyboatinsurance.co.uk/t...ntroduction.htm
  19. Back from a three day trip up the Erewash and just want to say to anyone thinking of doing it sometime soon - go for it! Stayed one night in The Langley Mill basin and met a few members of the Erewash Canal Association - very proud of thier work and rightly so, and then another night in Sandiacre by the junction with the Derby Canal (lovely mooring!). Saw great wildlife and the diversity of the canal makes it really interesting. One thing though, the locks are hard going! I even managed to snap a windlass!! it was a cheapie I bought at the Loughborough Canal festival however it says something about how tough they were! Cruising time was 7 and half hours up.. longer coming back. That's it really, just thought I'd share it with you.. !
  20. that's a great site.. nice work!! you want to start on the Trent and Mersey next??
  21. Apolloduck Granny Buttons Canal Planner AC Canal Junction Canal World of course... ! What's in your favourites? Are there any hidden gems? I'd love to know!
  22. First off I'm not defending speeding boats... But the middle levels have to be one of the most frustrating waterways if you're tight for time. You have to book in at Stanground (24 hours minimum in advance now) - this is to do with water levels, then for some reason you have to phone through and book in at Marmont Priory Lock. When I asked the lock keeper as to why? she said she wasn't paid for the job she just liked helping boaters and the lock is at the end of her garden. This is great and somewhat quirky, however it's an added complication if you have to make it before she picks her grand children up from school (which was the case). I couldn't see any reason why we couldn't work the lock ourselves. Then if you're booked in for a tide time slot at Salters Lode you also have to make this. I appreciate you should always leave yourself plenty of time but some days you just loose hours and have to make them up if you want to get back to work on X and Y. Anyway enough said and I enjoyed our trip on the Middle Levels... !! Also the lock keeper at Marmont gave us a lift to the pub.. in Outwell when we moored close to her house, what a nice lady!!
