  1. Hi we are out on the Fossedyke at the moment, when we can get out onto the tidal Trent we are heading up to Newark area, what I am asking is are there any club members in this part of the river over the next 2/3 weeks as I would love to have a chat about your club and its facilities we are in NB Wee Blueit hopefully we can meet somewhere? 2. 10 men 8 vehicles 1 new tug 1 new crane barge and a dingy all employed to check the salmon run at Stoke bardolph weir??? taking the mick or what how can we take this organisation seriously?? it is so miss managed that I fear for boaters wildlife and the canals with this level of incompetence at the helm.
  3. hi, as we have neglected our 57ft boat over the last 2 years due to my wifes ill health, we are now turning the corner and hopefully looking forward to being able to take the boat out next year for an extended cruise. The question I am asking is does anyone know of a reliable boatyard in the Nottingham area that will re paint my boats hull in two pack? last time she was painted we had a disaster as they relaunched the boat and submarined the stern and filled the exhaust with water, I wont tell you where but it was on the river soar and I had untold problems caused by them , so I need to get her painted pretty quick as the weather wont allow two pack in poor weather please help asap, thanks Chris
  4. Yes we went out, its not that deep way out from the shore, not that far but close enough to watch the coasters coming in to Sutton bridge
  5. Thanks for all your comments, the plan originally was for me to call up my old mate Norman Parnell from Drove End at Gedney, he looks after the RAF Holbeach bombing range. Norman has a small boat that he services the marker bouys and navigation beacons with, I have been quite a way out into the wash with him in his JCB he does have a really in depth knowledge of the wash and is a well known celeb in those parts.Should Norman be unavailable we will pre book the pilot,so at the moment it is all systems go with two guys helping myself I am looking forward to the challenge.
  6. had a similar prob with our boat so I fitted an automatic greaser its basically a spring loaded canister of grease which keeps pressure on the gland and does not allow water to enter the stern, years ago the cost was about £20 don't know what todays price would be they are found on conveyors or moving machinery
  7. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  8. Hi, Does anyone have information regarding joining the club at Doncaster, we would like to moor our 57ft nb there but I cant seem to get anywhere with either access or information as regards what the moorings are like etc. Regards Chris
  9. Hi, We are planning a trip out down the Trent staring mid June and will be aiming to be in Boston around mid July ready to cross the Wash and make for the Nene, anyone else thinking about doing a similar trip??? please let me know if you are contemplating same.
  10. sorry its taken me some time but I have dug out the phone deal it,s with Mobiles UK £22.99 per month but you can claim cash back of £108 per year via a quarterly invoice hope you can get the same deal.
  11. My way around all this with my samsung galaxy s3 mini, over the last couple of years I was with Three network on a sim only deal with an unlimited tethering contract then about 4 months ago three reduced all the tethering to a max of 3 gig as I use my internet a lot both at home and on the boat unlimited is essential for me so I shopped around and found T mobile will give me a contract including unlimited tethering and 2000 call mins 5000 text messages all for £18.99 a month and I can claim a cash back of around £9 a month. So we do not have a BT landline we do not have a broadband contract all we have is T mobile which I can take with me every where ,this can be wedged into the porthole window and works very well giving me internet access to my favourite prog which is KODI now we start cooking with gas Kodi will get me BT sports 2 so I can watch moto gp live on the boat and any other channel I want in the world. Best start with you tube watch the geeks who will show you how to download kodi from google ( I would recommend loading one pc whilst watching the instructions) once you have downloaded kodi the world will be your oyster, after reading the above please appreciate that I am a tight Yorkshireman so my average costs are around £20 a month as I have to call abroad for business but it is still a great deal for us boaters why pay for services you cannot use because your,e afloat.
  12. I am looking for an Nav app for my tablet that will be useful for when we do our big tour this summer can anyone suggest something worthwhile also we are crossing the wash so hopefully it will be of some use out there?
  13. Ok update , we went down to the idle in the car on Saturday, we parked in the car park opposite the White hart with our mission to view the bank and see if we could moor our NB without going through the sluice gate, well that's not possible and we walked up to the 2nd sluice gate and viewed the bank ,it is possible to moor between the two sluices but not what we want to do so back to the pub for lunch and a great Idle brewery pint ,our relations live in Stockwith and we met one of them in the pub where we were given a really warm welcome. After lunch we visited the basin on the Chesterfield and it is there that new top gates have been fitted, so on our summer trip we will stay there for a day or so. We then followed the Idle up to Haxey where we saw about 14 boats moored next to the bank on linear moorings at the caravan site with further moorings just having been built but it would appear to be mainly live aboard people but not for us as the idle would not be navigable very far for our 57ft boat.
  14. We are planning a trip for our 57ft narrow boat this summer, and we intend to visit relations at West Stockwith, on a recent gathering of our family I was informed that the river Idle has some new lock gates!! and boats are now being moored around the pub area of the river.i will try and get more detailed information and post it here as and when .
  15. when we had our 57ft nb boat built I specified the 45hp Shire Barrus mainly because we would be spending most of our time on the river Trent including the tidal, also we had the 3 alternator travel pack option as well. I have punched back up the Trent in flood on 3 ocassions and one year we managed to collect Trout and its butty (70ft working boats) breasted them up and got them to Sawley lock safely, now this engine is well on top of the job and on our last trip up the river I put on *dashboard* on my mobile phone and using the GPS watched the speed of the boat with the rpm counter it is quite interesting that over 1900 rpm the boat did not go signifiguently faster ie 2000rpm gained nothing and 2100rpm gained .5 of a mile per hour. so I settled for 1900rpm and 3.8-4.0 miles per hour. This would indicate that the hull shape and swim area are the most important parts not really the engine, so whilst I have reserves of power ( up to 3000rpm) it is only in flood conditions that I need to use them, by the way my prop which I thought was under sized at 17x12 is bang on according to the people over in Manchester who make the props, so 33hp would be good enough in my book for normal river work.
  16. Alan, My incorrect statements are???? I have quoted facts from Newark Piscatorials web pages and emails I have received from CRT why should I lie ??? you do seem to have carried out a limited research on this particular subject before firing off what I can only describe as miss leading comments . As I stated before we boaters are being subjected to extra costs for which we cannot budget thanks to CRT and their money grabbing business transactions with these fishing clubs. As a pensioner I have to live on a limited income which I manage weekly , monthly etc this includes my boating costs ie where we travel to and where we can afford to stay and for how long, maybe you do not have these restrictions and that is why I ask if OAP,s get a discount. I try to enjoy my time on the river Trent but when we encounter problems after travelling for 3/4 days to get to Newark I feel it is only fair to warn other retired and OAP,s of the problems if they want to fish ,Alan if slagging me off and trying to belittle me is what this room is about I will find another forum to express my opinions and leave you to your little world of " I am right and you are wrong"
  17. Alan, You seem to have a policeman like attitude to my posting, I am not crossing swords with you as I need to make people aware of what is happening on our rivers .Next time I post on here I will make sure I have my Readers Digest condensed book of English Law, which it appears you are well versed in!!! Alan life is too short for scoring points, but if this is what gets you off go ahead.
  18. After contacting Newark Piscatorials by e-mail John Garland replied informing me that day ticket prices are £4 per day no concessions for OAP,s if you read their web page membership to this fishing club is limited to people living within an 8 mile radius of Newark, that will exclude most of us visiting boaters, Also associate members can fish these waters but there is a waiting list for membership, so it would seem that CRT have leased the water to Newark who are enforcing the day ticket rules without placing notices on the moorings to inform the boating /fishing people somewhat underhandedly in my opinion, to which I will write to CRT fisheries manager and complain on behalf of the law abiding fishermen/boaters who happen to be falling into NP trap.
  19. Sorry to post again about my problem in Newark, but I am e-mailing Newark Piscatorials ref day ticket prices. Other information has been cleaned from their web site so when I have further news I will post it.
  20. Sorry Carlt I have proposed your name to the EDL and they have rejected you!!!
  21. Carlt you are a nasty piece of work that I have tangled with before as you have no real interest in fishing or boaters rights I suggest that you visit my home town of Rotherham, where the EDL would welcome your presence every other Saturday. Some people are on this forum are here to promote and inform of boaters problems and try to help with advice or information, it seems that you cannot or will not change your tack and are merely on here to try and belittle posters thereby making it difficult for genuine posters to have the courage to post their thoughts or ideas. carlt you are single handedly killing off this room well done slagging off people will only drive boaters to other forms of expression.
  22. Suddenly from me making a very valid point about our loss of rights as boaters/fishermen I get negatives from so called contributors??? As your views on me are somewhat history I suggest you either post a positive comment ref this posting or get off my case otherwise I can turn nasty and I seem to remember you do get easily drawn into slanging matches which is your bag these days.
  23. As I stated before I will stand my corner in any fight, but that week in Newark was not about trouble and fighting, so if you do not have any constructive comments to make please keep out of my business and past history raking which seems to be your strong point.
  24. This is todays update from John W Ellis, National fisheries and Angling Manager. The fishing rights on The Newark Dyke within Newark town centre are owned by the CRT they are leased to Newark Piscatorials and the agreement includes all of the no fishing section in Newark town centre. The angling club like like other angling clubs with agreements with CRT are required as part of the trusts standard angling agreement document to the bailiff these fishing rights including the no fishing sections within overall length. When it is decided to make a section of CRT network a no fishing area that applies equally to the fishing from the bank or from craft. I can confirm that good fishing opportunities are available both upstream and downstream of the no fishing section either on a full membership or short term membership basis from the patrolling bailiff. Should you wish to voice your opinions on this issue you can contact Mr Ellis on 01908 302555 or by e-mail john.ellis@canalrivertrust.org.uk
  25. As Newark has become a bilingual state of Nottinghamshire, the police are somewhat overrun by the eastern europeons thieving from every shop in Newark also the price of scrap has dropped dramatically recently therefore the traveller community are finding it hard to keep their Range Rover sports in fuel, and our over stretched police force must take holidays just like everyone else, I am surmising that a call from a bailiff will be almost if not definatly be on the very bottom of their priority list of call outs!!! On my next return to Newark I think I will put on the WEB that massive carp are being caught on the Trent in Newark town this should ensure a flood of anglers for our bailiff matey to arouse.,
