  1. OP did say "repacked" so I think it is safe to say he means the stern gland. Are there any re-packable stern tubes?

  5. Agreed. That's part of the service hirers pay the big bucks for. I didn't appreciate the boat was hired.
  6. Recently discussed in this thread /www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/topic/101440-post-bcns-challenge-problems/&tab=comments#comment-2308957 Basically you need to lift the rams head and drop the end of the rudder stock into the cup on the skeg. Try removing the weed hatch then guiding the rudder stock into the cup.
  7. Just checking, you know now that you don't need the inverter on to run the 12V fridge and that the inverter is just there to change up the battery power to 230V AC for mains appliances?
  8. Googling " Dixell Prime " which is written on the unit in the photo suggests that it is a control for a freezer. Do you have a freezer under the bed? http://www.dixell.de/images/manuals/xr60d_en.pdf If not it is probably acting as a tank thermostat and may be controlling the eber remotely
  9. The magnets drop off too and end up in the elsan.
  10. There are things called flanged threaded inserts that are like pop rivets that have an internal threaded hole. You screw a mandrel the right size onto the tool, like a big pair of pliers then the insert on to this Close the handles and this squeezes the insert onto the material. remove the tool and you have a threaded hole. The downside is that you need the tool and the right size insert plus there will be a part of the insert remaining on the top of the material. https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637203453/threaded-insert-rivet-nut-m8-splined-pack-of-50
  11. The current doesn't flow through a clamp meter. You place the arms of the meter around a cable and it senses the magnetic field induced by the current flowing through the wire.
  12. That's good to know. Thanks Tony. I must be more careful who I listen to.
  13. You did check to see that the meter can measure DC amps I hope? Quite a few models just do AC I believe.
  14. It's not a good idea to run the engine with the "ignition" turned off. This can kill the alternator. How often have you done this?
  15. The last paragraph talks about a Reliant so probably one of those.
  16. https://archiveshub.jisc.ac.uk/search/archives/90c596a2-cfa8-3c97-97a6-c934f8851730 This site says they were just chandlery and yacht equipment suppliers. They are no longer trading.

  18. A lot is cast iron. Does go up to 8mm wall thickness.
  19. So not the same number as the one you found under the bed then. Does it look like the one under the bed would fit? Could it be an upgraded version as suggested earlier?

    Rudder

    Cleaned the prop?
  21. This was on the unnavigable river Gipping in Ipswich. Mentioned in this thread Not sure but I seem to remember they were trying to wind and did not see the weir under water. Then the tide went out.
  22. Does this help? https://stackoverflow.com/questions/49968948/what-is-a-ray-id-cloudflare
  23. This page has a link to Narrowboats.org 's planner too. I hadn't seen that one before. http://www.jim-shead.com/waterways/mwp.php?wpage=Introducing-Route-Planning.htm
  24. Would something like the base of a mushroom vent do the trick? Bolt the flange to the cabin side (or Sikaflex). Shove the pipe over the protruding section and secure with a jubilee clip/
  25. A long shot but I see that up in the top right corner of the PCB there are pins to accept a plug. There isn't another set of wires that have dropped off which attach to this plug is there? Have a look in the hole.
