  1. If you don't trust anti freeze testers you could put a sample of your coolant into a domestic freezer.  I believe freezers are somewhere around -18 degrees Celsius.  If the sample freezes then you may have a problem if the ambient temperature drops that low.

I just use a tester like the one linked by Ditchcrawler.

There is still a small shop near the top of the flight - my only interest in it is that it sells Magnum ice creams! But yes, it does still stock lots of canal related ware.

That's not the one. The shop in question is next door to the New Inn and is now part of a private house. The bit with the large window was the shop part I believe.

Have a look at another current thread discussing using Jotun 2 pack here. There was a fast drying easy to use "Andy Russell Gunwhale Paint" but it is no longer easily available.

You could get the Andy Russell product from the 3P paint company in Stockport who actually made it for him but their website is not loading today so I'm unsure if they are still trading.  Cheaper price too.

  4. If you really need to pay someone to look for the leak then ask at Calcutt Boats. They have a range of people who do various boat related tasks. However it would be worthwhile following the pipework from the tank via the pump and on into the cabin. The pipes may well be hidden behind the fit out. Look for a disconnected fitting as suggested above as it sounds like a major leak.

  5. Are you sure that the pipework from the shower to the box is clear? There may also be a kind of tubular affair in the intake to the box which has holes and acts as a crude filter. This also can block up. I think the problem may be that the waste water is not getting into the box and that the Rule pump is actually getting the box emptied as it fills.

  6. If you have a filter going to a third tap at the sink and it is the kind that has an element inside a housing then its worth draining this. They are usually highish in the boat so don't get any benefit from the warmer water in the cut and retain a thin layer of water between the element and casing.  I lost a casing to frost once - the only damage I have had in 40 years.  I also drain the washing machine by removing the cover of the drain filter.
