  3. You used to get on my pip for some reason (probably mutual) but I'm starting to have problems resting smiling and occasionally laughing. Stop it, this is a deadly serious forum.
  4. We have venetian blinds, they can't see in but you can see and hear them. For really cheeky and nosey folk I wait until they are trying to peer in and quickly whip the blind up and stare at them! Seems to spook them a bit.
  5. We have to remember though that the 50% thing is not a fixed rule, it's just a rule of thumb i.e. a compromise between cost of batteries and generating fuel. You could go to 40% SoC, say, and save some fuel but expect shorter batt life. I think some people consider that 50% discharge is good but 51% is bad, any discharge is damaging. It all depends on individual factors and so as to make things least complicated a 50% 'rule' is a reasonablly best compromise.

  7. Be handy if you could just tap various waypoints on the screen map and load that into your route. Or even better the option to do it on a lappy and download it to satnav.
  8. OP for your information, 10.8v is a flat battery, 100% DoD (depth of discharge) or 0% SoC (state of charge) is about 11.9v. 100% SoC or 0% DoD is 12.65v or more. Both readings after battery has been disconnected for several hours

  17. I suppose it depends on length of time and how much bulk charge is exceeding 1'%, I think it take a while for heat to build up. We need Gibbo to elucidate.
  18. Actually I don't do technobabble, I always try to rely on a simple picture in my mind to understand charging, I have tried to keep it straightforward for the sake of the OP. If you consider that technobabble then I think you shouldn't concern yourself with it.
  19. The 1% rule relates to bulk charge, during which batt will take all that is offered, damage possible if 1% rule is exceeded. When acceptance voltage is reached battery will of course begin to restrict charge anyway. If charge capacity is about 20% of batt capacity then 1% rule can't be exceeded as acceptance tends to be reached around 20% DoD (80% SoC)
  20. Also remember the 1% rule, a rule of thumb which states that battery charge rate shouldn't exceed 1% of battery depth of discharge i.e. a 100 ah battery at 50% DoD can be charged at 50amps, when it gets to 49% DoD then 49amps and so on. Quoted from Gibbo
  21. We have the 2kva version of the Honda digital, same noise level, very quiet when doing an absorption charge on tickover and ok on towpath near boats (50') but though still relatively quiet on full output I wouldn't run it within a couple of hundred yards of anyone.
  22. I know let's start a debate on global warming...
