  1. I'm repainting my tunnel bands in gloss and wondering which type of mini roller to use. As it's only the tunnel bands I do not wish to lash out on expensive stuff as they will be thrown away on completion. Ive got foam and "lambs wool" . Advice appreciated
  2. For anyone interested I've had a reply from Hempel as follows: "The Data sheet information states a full cure of 20 days in a temperature of 5C, even that is on the generous side, the 10 days that yard state is more than adequate, the 45143 will have completely cured by then and be ready for immersion. Your yard have coated many, many boats with our product and we feel they are one of the most competent and professional applicators in the Inland Waterways Market, we are confident that you won’t experience any problems". I have to say Hempel have been very helpful and prompt with their replies. Thanks everyone for your contributions
  3. It is Hempadur 45143. Data sheet says 20 days for full cure and yard says 10 days back in the water. Don't know if it will cure when in the water, I have a call in to Hempadur makers for clarification. I'll post result when Hempadur 45143 get back to me. Thanks for comments
  4. How long should I leave the epoxy to cure before returning to the water? I suppose longer the better would be an answer but one has to be realistic. Advice appreciated as I am getting mixed messages from supplier and boatyard.
  5. All good points, but it is for the OP to decide convenience and value for money etc All that was asked for was recommendations in the Northwest nothing else.
  6. OK Try Google for The Paint Shed Anderton
  7. Come off it people, you know what the OP is looking for. Give him a break. 'Smart answers' do not do you credit
  8. I had mine done here five years ago and still looks good. http://www.nbmarineservices.co.uk/thepaintshed/the-paintshed.htm. aka The Paintshed
  9. As it happens the one fitted is a Leeds Neville. Given the point about losing magnetism would I be better with an ordinary 9 diode assuming I can get one with equivalent fitting?
  10. Oops posted this in wrong forum. Could a Mod move to correct location please?
  11. My boat only runs one 90ah alternator that serves my needs ok. I was wondering about carrying a spare as things tend to break when miles from anywhere. Apart from laying out the cash are there any disadvantages? Do they deteriorate/lose magmatism? I did consider running two in tandem but the engineering involved for my engine (vintage engine in engine room) would be complicated or at best untidy. Any views?
  12. From experience I would say sand on roof or anywhere else is a bad idea. It reduces water run off and holds dirt. My boating style/requirements put me in a position where I can ban any roof walking or roof adornment/storage, however this will not suit everyone's needs. If poss do not sand!
  13. OK guys, thanks for the comment. Tube on the blacking list
  14. Is it a good idea to have the tube blacked, not doing the work myself but the yard asked if I wanted it done, not sure there is merit in doing so. Any views on this
  15. I've been quoted £3k for grit blast and two pack coating. I'm thinking a bit of careless steering and one could scrape through the coating, yard says small damage can be touched up but I assume once mixed this stuff cannot be stored and remixing a small amount wouldn't get the correct proportions. Any views on this and is £3k worth it?
  16. Thanks everyone for the info. I need something with an attachment to get into edges and corners. I'm interested in your approach Naughty Cal as it is small and appears to have the attachment. Please let us know how you get on.
  17. I have a Victron 12/1600/70 inverter. Can I run a 1200 watt corded vacuum cleaner from it (with engine running) If not 1200, what size can I run? Help appreciated

There are often mains power cuts in this neck of the woods so I guess the battery power is an attempt to avoid closure due to power loss - hmm, seemed like a good idea at the time!
  19. Some nice bits of hardware, congrats to the keepers. Am curious as to how the copper pipe is coiled, presumably some sort of former or similar but how is it done without squashing? I have used pipe bender for domestic stuff at home but these only bend as far as 90 degrees or so.
  20. With dead slow internet connection like wot I've got you agent got time to change the auto correct,, you take what you can bet .
  21. If you are looking for temp moorings before you shell out on CRT moorings, might be worth 'chancing your arm' and moor for free on the towpath side anywhere between Scarisbrick and Parbold. Enforcement on this stretch is vertically nonexistent.
  22. Homecare Shiny Sinks cream cleaner (Tesco, Wilco etc) is less harsh and cheaper than Barkeepers Friend but still removes the worst tarnish, followed by a good metal polish does the job
  23. Had the same problem with my previous boat. In my case I had a 55amp alternator, blocking diode and Stirling Alternator Controller. After tips from this forum I ditched the Sterling for an Adverc. Apparently Stirling's put a heavy load on the alternator whereas Adverc are kinder to the system. I know Sterling's work well for some folks but for me shifting away from Sterling worked
