  1. As above absolutely , a NRV isn't fitted as standard because Hotpoint expect the machine to follow the normal household installation practice, as with all things boaty a bit of thinking outside the box is required. Phil
  2. Do you mean fans are required to make them work? or that a fan us desirable to assist in shifting the heat from the evaporater, Phil
  3. Yes, can be purchased on eBay which was where I bought the panel. I do have a Numax charger which will charge the starter as well as the domestics via a separate output but never found it necessary. Phil ETA diode fitted as redundancy
  4. I fitted a dedicated 20w PV panel to charge the starter, never had a problem with it, just used a cheapo controller and added a diode as the £20-00 panel lacked one Phil

  6. Which ever inverter you go for make sure it's PSW , pure sine wave, many leccy items won't run on a dirty modified sinewave . Phil

  8. I noticed a post saying their engine bay was covered in a very thick layer of grease. I found a good way around this issue by glueing a bit of plastic across the bottom of the swim to form a bilge to collect water and grease from the stern gland. In the "tray" under the engine I put a newspaper spread out and a couple of disposable nappies opened out. To clear all that is needed is to bundle it up into a bin bag. I trim the elastic off the nappies so they lay flat Phil
  9. So now you are discounting the many thousands of boats on our river sysyems. My cruising grounds include the River Great Ouse, river Cam, river Lark, river Little Ouse, river Wissey plus various lodes and of course the Middle Levels and the Nene and of course that leads to the canal system Phil
  10. I fitted a Glembring in our Broads cruiser, best thing I ever did, turned down to tick over at night or when leaving for work and the boat stayed warm, just turn it up and toasty in no time. Used the same Toby valve as Refleks, I sat it in a stainless tray in case of drips but never happened . Phil
  11. Shall have to remove from my list of followers. Phil
  12. What is this Thundersh#te you speak of? I know of Thunderboat because I in common with quite a few others (even 2 mods from here) am a member Phil
  13. Do you really need so much stuff that you need storage on land? For us when we moved aboard some 20 years ago part of the appeal was to be able to DUMP! We found that though it was hard to rid ourselves of all the modern day trappings once we had done so it was a great relief. Our choice of boat initially was a 40x12 cruiser on The Broads, 10 years on we moved to the Fens and onto a 60ft NB. At no point were we camping, we had a full size under counter fridge, and a full size under counter freezer, both 12v, full size auto washer, tumble dryer and a 2 seater sofa across the boat so no pulling your legs in. Our bed was lengthways down the boat albeit only 4ft wide but as long as a conventional bed. Living aboard comfortably only requires a bit of lateral thinking. Good luck with your quest Phil
  14. And filling that "lump" with anything will make it FUBAR. Best advice is buy a new pump, they are consumables like batteries. Phil
  15. The best advice you will get on this issue can be obtained from Peterboat. I suggest you send him a PM and your phone number. He is very knowledgeable about converting boats to electric and on issues with licensing. You will find he is passionate about electric conversions and happy to share. Phil

While on the subject of tools, when I started as an apprentice toolmaker the best bit of advice I received was " if you knock something in with a hammer always make sure you have a bigger one to knock it out" Phil

OK Tony, I've altered that to "a spanner that fits correctly" I didn't think it had to be spelt out as a spanner that does not fit correctly cannot be described as a spanner that fits. Phil
  19. It's a bit like getting to Carnegie Hall........... you've got to practice. ? Phil
  20. Merely an observation DTE but I was under the impression that an argument involved 2 or more people, shame you and Rusty seem to think an argument is a one sided affair . I thought we were having a discussion but hey ho there you go. Phil
  21. I don't claim to see into his mind, that is why I used expressions such as "maybe" and " I guess" whatever his reasons are there is no point banging on about it here, nothing will change unless he sees fit to change it Phil
  22. And there you go again expecting him to accept your business model just so you can get the stove you want with all your boxes ticked. With respect why not accept that on this occasion you are not going to get what you want. (I rarely do) Phil
  23. Why would he bother, I guess he is happy as he is. Phil
  24. OK, how's this? There's nothing in it for him that he wants Phil
  25. No comment as others have adequately explained why he chooses to continue in the way he is happy with, I'm sure he has considered options and arrived at the answer he feels is best for him. Phil
