  1. Just a quickie my webasto heater boiler being in engine room, one one side feeds all the radiators (4) in one direction to the main living area i have a bedroom on the other side of engine room so if I was going to put a radiator in the back bedroom. to connect the heating pipes is it just conecting to the start of the run of the 2 pipes, that feeds the other rads in the main living area by replacing the 2 elbows for 2 T pieces? maybe silly question I know col
  2. Thank you Tony I will watch out for that, when I order making sure I’m getting the right boot, and material. BWM ta for that, but the one that you sent the link for, don’t think that will be ok, I may be wrong but one end has to fit over the steel hull surrounding the hole, with the shaft in. The other end fits over the bearing end. Which I think is diferent size col
  3. Thank you very much for your post we have just ordered the Denso tape lol i won’t be doing that today will get it sealed on the outside and then the inside but before that I’m going to hunt down a engineer who will either repair or fit another make while we are still in the water a Widebeam next door neighbour, has also got a water cooled stern gland. He’s had his boat for 6 years he haven’t got his one connected to water either!!!! im going to ask him, has he done anything to it hes done a lot of miles on the canal, as he was a continuous cruiser for 5 years. never had a problem?
  4. As you mentioned Tony take it apart, at least one end and delve arround in there. 1st thing Ive notice there’s no water pick up conected,! so yes your right it must be seized up so will investigate. I’m also talking to Johnathon from t Norris, he’s said the same have a look, but don’t go to far, in case there too much water. the reason why I imagine that the water pick up want conected as the boat builders hadn’t installed a engine to conect with. N Norris is saying it be difficault doing it in the water to lift it out is £1500 crane lol i mean if I buy the water pick up kit, and a boot, I may be luck??? below is a copy of Sureseal n norris Colin Can you advise the shaft size please. I am checking the part number to see if we can identify the hose. Price and lead time for just the hose, and a replacement seal, or complete assembly. We cannot advise someone to do the work. Unfortunately, to do the job whilst the boat is in the water will not be easy. As soon as you remove the seal, you will have to stem the inflow of water. I am not sure that you will find someone to attempt this. Also you could find other issues. There must be a reason that the hose has failed as it has. Maybe the body has an issue and the shaft may need to be cleaned. end of quote and yes it must be seized as no cooling water feed to the stern gland. so I’ve asked, this will be the case, so what damage do you think I’m looking at the hose. Of course it wouldn’t still had thisstern gland in. 😂

  6. There’s many on google, but why is their such a price difference. £80 to £350 and above obvious answer is quality, but if it was that simple why are the vetus ones, the cheaper alternatives? surely it can’t be that, as folkS and insurance company’s be telling what makes they would support or not in claims. and what is the best sort GREASE OR WATER col
  7. Looking at the price tag for the same make price tag £337 i might as well replace the whole assembly with a vetus water cooled gland below https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294744992481?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338749392&toolid=20006&customid=GB_131090_294744992481.139652105680~1431969993559-g_EAIaIQobChMIyazxkpr6-AIV1uvtCh2YigOOEAQYASABEgL_LPD_BwE vetus are a good respected make ?
  8. Seemed it, just as we going through the bridge, we wanted to clear the bridge, it was loud enough tho, the noise did stop but yes it seemed for ever
  9. Hi ya, it’s me again took the boat to the winding hole and back again. unfortunately a banging noise, quite loud started, but stopped after 5 mins. I was either a log, stuck wedged in the prop. but also we noticed the middle of the blue boot on the stern gland would it be was twisting, just started it up again, and the blue boot was still trying to twist, as it’s misshaped the boot. don’t think this was suppose to happen, but don’t know the make to order parts etc, before i take it off. also if I do take it off is water going to be gushing out? it seems that when I’ve squeeze it before it was filled with water, now it seems more solid if I can get the make, I can service/repair/renew, or replace with a different type via advice from yourselves, members of this forum. an thanks in advance
  10. hi there i did buy a helm pump from wills and Ridley a tetra 45, but moved the boat to turn arround, and is was 12 turns lock to lock. to be fair it was a lot of work, low speed, with such a lot of turns. My previous boat Jambo Rafiki was about 6 lock to lock. what model pump have you got,? I know it’s a vetus as you’ve mentioned. I have been told about the kolbelt system via asap store but that’s £1400!! But that’s variable from 5 turns to 13 lock to lock hope alls okay col
  11. Hi there just to give a update, I was a blockage in the fuel tank. used wire, and I don’t know why, but a bit of steel came out. lucky I was able to get the cause of the blocage so we’re up and running, regards to the separator,, it was removed, and now it’s back on for another 4 years just seems so stupid, there rubber hoses, that surely would be alight well before the seperator. Ive got 2 x 2kg automatic fire extinguishers in the engine bay.. should be okay. anyway thank you all, another problem jointly solved by you and form members thank you
  12. Now that will be a job and a half! thanks col
  13. Hi all Just to say, we now have fuel coming out the fuel tank I used a hand pump to pump air in, hearing the sound of bubbles And on vacuum it produces fuel. so it must have been a blockage which is worry thanks for the ideas re finding out if there was a blockage all the best col
  14. I think the whole point of having a seperator is that the ability of seeing water/gunk that could be in the fuel, and drain off through the bottom tap
  15. Yes I’ve had to buy a new separator that is all metal, as like Alans not allowed the glass bowl ones either!
  16. Hi there this is a copy of a email sent to me David Fuller, head of the technical department of the BSS, has responded back to us confirming that the fuel/water separator filter is not compliant. It will need to be replaced with a suitable proprietary fire-resistant unit. Applicability All metal fuel filters are accepted as being sufficiently fire resistant also fuel filters marked with ISO 10088 are acceptable. Heatshields are not acceptable unless supplied with the unit and supporting documentation verifying this. Apologies again that this wasn’t picked up on the original inspection.
  17. Our boat is basically the same set up as Alan’s, steel integrated tanks all with inspection hatches, all steel and bolted sealed shut. during our boat fit out, we never fitted access areas, as there be 4 of them in the cabin space. if I had to get to them I would have to rip the inside out!!!! i will try to get some photos of the boats tanks. Bss ceases to amaze me regards to rules etc, all arround the world they make boats, and when new they would probably all fail a BSS col
  18. The photo below shows the bulkhead from living space looking back to wards engine bay other side to engine bilge where the giraffes feet are is more or less where the diesel outlet is, which must mean the outlet is top of tank!! the stairs lead up to wheel house, providing the roof of engine bilge below. haven’t done the testing re pump to day, as dont feel good today, hopefully tommorrow. anyone interested in the water seperator or a new electric lifter pump with all fittings direct from Beta, instructions and original receite £120 1/2 price lol col No the soppy lazy sod is not for sale
  19. Ive finally found out to resize photos please see photos photo one shows engine room empty note the diesel tank out let marked with red arrow photo 2 engine photo 3 below the water seperator ( being removed as failed BSS last week) there’s a gap in plate, where the original outlet for diesel on the other side of bulkhead is the living area which is floor level with tanks below the floor
  20. The boat is a 2015 boat, it is a coastal category B, to be fair the fuel tank is under the main floor, so yes tho it’s at the bottom of the engine bilge you could be right. All I know all along the bottom of boat I have a grey tank, black water tank, fuel tank, and drinking water tank all these make up the whole of the boat, under the main living area,on the other side of a steel wall is the engine room. where the fuel outlet come out at the bottom of engine bilge, it’s got me thinking ffs i should know my own boat!! but yes I get the paperwork out. when, you say you know the boat, it’s a blue and cream dutch barge next door is a green Widebeam mark? you may be right!, to be fair I’m confused now!
  21. Feed to the tank is at the top, with the air vent. the outlet is in the bottom of the tank, bilge with fuel pipes going and connecting to engine. Col I be been thinking that, I have got a hand pump, as a hand fuel pump, and a pipe that will fit. i be doing this tomorrow. thanks
  22. Thank you all, I will try this tomorrow let you know the out come. has somthing like this happened to others then? must be very rare, boat has rarely been used from new! possible 12 running hrs tops! col
