  2. after having a weedhatch installed. reducing the draft to 3ft dosent look good for me to take the boat down the GU to the thames later this year then?? col
  3. okay went to be bed reading this posty. woke and got out of bed reading this post went to get my sugar puffs and a coffee looking forward to more then nothing!! now i got to get the a paper!! col
  4. Yes Roger our dream still continues, i will be updating blog soon but we are living on board and still smiling, hopefully less hospital visits later on,so may venture out again lol only to put a hour or 2 on the engine lol take care Col
  5. GJW for us never had to claim , horifying to think how much we spend per year on insurance though making me think col
  6. were spoilt lol a candy washing machine and tumble dryer on board it was a wifes stipulation to living on board lol col
  7. lol tried to put a photo of a boat that we bought to do both but failed but as folks on the forum know the only problem i had was draft!! late last year reduced draft through rudder and skeg, also had a weed hatch installed but with the reduced water levels on the GU it seems to be a waste of time As per Tam and DIs post you be picking up rubbish all the time so Mrs tawny owls post unfortnatly ends up being reality, because you end up loosing confidence in moving your boat along the canal system. col
  8. Hi there mattysupra I also would appreciate hearing the out come what ever happens keep on at the insurance co,dont let them bully you. In the end we all pay insurance, and if we ever have to claim,I like to know that my claim would be honoured. I like everyone on this forum has paid house car life boat heath etc etc over 30 years and ive never had to claim. so i like to know if theres a company that dont pay out when the need arises all the best col
  9. Thanks for the info So all newly built boats fitted with new equipment have a legal requirement to have auto extingushers fitted and this is now a requirement by insurance companies as per RCD rules Yet older boats on the inland waterways with older equipment its not a legal or insurance company requirement to have the above ? yet the examiners could and do fail inland waterways boats on all sorts and leisure boats on the coast have no such exam at all!! yes makes sense to me! col
  10. Another thing is Phylis is right having coastal boats insured on the coast it was an insurance requirement to have automatic fire extinguishers in date and installed but why is this not a requirement on inland waterways or brought up by the bss examiner.? I was always advised the wrong thing to do is open up the engine hatch to put out a fire with a extinguisher ? food for thought though col
  11. And please tell me why after a breakdown and insurance of a faulty defect part whether engines interior or whatever why any profesinal company would replace it with a second hand parts or furnishings being interior or exterior If a mechanical part which in turn could be defected of more chances of it breaking down where as the company installing secondhand parts will have to take the boat apart yet again to sort out secondhand parts Rubbish so if you had a claim you be happy with making do with second hand parts!! yes i agree with the insurance company and the claiment discussing depreciation for wear and tear possibly i cant see why after going through the stress of a fire. the next thing is having to deal with secondhand.parts The insurance company should be bowled over by their customer reducing their risk!! 100k plus and regards to secondhand parts you could be having a bodged fire hazard being reinstalled in your boat ! col
  12. A marine insurer would not want bad pubilcity in a highly competive industry and closed market such as ours. If your insurance disputes the claim, take it to the monthly boating mags and like youve done boating forums. as its not a new boat i cant see how it can be a latent fault, and if it were! thats why we have insurance surely. if your boat has a boat safty cert. a survey. or report and they take on the risk after aproving details given then surely its insured.!! most folks on the forum have bought boats and would not know if their are hiden faults within the boats systems and a surveyer would not search and take apart every component to look for a posible defect. so when somthing gos wrong we protect ourselves with insurence! making sure that weve done everything to minimise the risk. youve minimised the claim by putting out the fire, they should be showing you gratitude, as if you didnt they be paying out for a burnt out boat. if they suggest that the volvo penta loom was faulty they would have to prove it, then volvo penta would be on the case pretty quick, and of course would open flood gates for any boat with volvo engines. the volvo wiring loom runs direct from the engine to the helm theres lots of looms out there anyway im rambling but its a must you let folks know the name of the company for all our sakes please its not XYW is it? good luck with it all col
  13. magpie patrick Really nice post!! you said it. you never stood a chance did you ?
  14. Spent a great weekend on my boats sealine 195, in 1992. absolutley loved it !! bought a boat. and moored in cobbs quay Poole for 5 years. Poole harbour was fantastic. boating was and still is my and my wifes love spent 15 years on the south coast now living on board, great life, great people when i finaly go, it be a vikings funeral for me col
  15. Is it not correct that going to your glass merchant he would cut a new piece for you be easier and quicker a couple of folks here in the marina say they done the above no problems at all glass is glass merchants stock different types toughened etc or am i wrong?? col
  16. Had the C/H heating on as well as the log burner last night. sat watching (the last sammurie) on tv last night. and the boat groaning and protesting against the grip of ice. Stuck my head out at midnight, and you could see and feel the freeze!!! lastnight was the coldest ive experianced on the boat as Alan stated -10 col the film was good as well
  17. Another one for Alan only filled out 2 boxes anyway good luck to all col
  18. Got mine last night all done and dusted. suprising! a very simple process col
  19. no water shortage there then ? col
  20. We installed fin rads on our boat 2 years ago also have webasto 5kw C/H and water. Got rid of most of the fin rads last year as we found them pathetic, not much point having them! webasto is great. we installed 300 size normal rads lots more output, rads get hot to touch and keep the boat toasty difference chalk and cheese! Had webasto come out due to a instalation problem. and they said with fin rads there isnt the volume of water circulating around within the system or the max heating surface ie radiators fin rads are just a feed and return pipe looking at the pics where fin rads are boxed in, couldnt imagine any heat what so ever coming through! or are there diferent types? all the best col
  21. i had a sterling invertor on previous boat. its still there no problems at all. wish i had one if i had the spare cash. on top of that stirling give excellent customer service help and advice col
  22. sold for 1550 pounds!! not a forum member then? col
  23. looked out side yesterday evening, noticed the level sligtly up from the the past few days today is up even more.(wifes using the washing machine alot lately) lol i can push the boat about now,so am floating nicely We paid our licence renewral fee this morning! can this be the reason why we have more water, or is it just the wifes washing machine?? the measuring device is still showing the canal is lower than normal, col
  24. re the above post I blame the morphine patches lol curently on a different planet! where theres canals full of loads of blue water, new lock gates. refurbished bridges, and diesel is 20p per litre col
  25. Just about to renew my licence fee tried online last night.but somthing was wrong with the site! wouldnt take my money Now for a stupid question!! do we pay our licence fees to sit on the water in the canal ? im online but private marina, so pay marina fees Or do we pay a licence fee for use of the waterways? Im thinking we pay a TV licence to watch BBC, but if the system broke down long term say? would we still have to pay for somthing we couldnt use? last year i had the draft reduced, had a weed hatch installed. after 2 sorties out on the Canal. and having to go in and free prop, now where i am the 6 inches choped of the rudder and skeg. has been again countered lossed anyway due to the falling water level but if i wanted to cruise down to the thames apart from normal stopages. theres talk of the tring closure being a long term deal. so like many folks we will stay put Im totaly gobsmacked that folks are now stuck in the cowroast pounds for no fault of their own. and being made to pay to be moor their. I hope everyone that have found themselves marroned in these affected pounds are able to break through soon col
