  1. I looked at Cygnus before the last guy bought her. Good and straight boat. My boat was delayed going onto the dock when the wooden bottom on Cygnus started leaking after a docking, was a case of having to put a new bottom on. From what I can remember the rest of the hull was good. I think if you were going to convert the boat only then maybe get the footings done? Are you bring to Braunston this year? Could come and give you a tow....
  2. "a survey isn't going to change your mind about buying the boat, so why waste the money!" Exactly..!!
  3. I think there has been some very informative stuff issued here. I think the biggest concern with buying a converted historic boat is as Chertsey points out a)Its very hard to see the inside of the hull b)If something does need doing its very destructive on the interior. I have owned 7 old boats and never had a survey, ( I think Alan F did a survey on ratio of boats bought without a survey?) as was mentioned previously they never really find everything and with me its about the boat. My advice would be to ask boat builders (there are a few good ones that really know their stuff) and try to keep your heart from overpaying! My current boat I wanted for years and when eventually I got it the 5k price tag reflected what was need to be done to it and the costs of restoring are approaching 15X the cost of the boat! Good luck with your searching.
  4. Blimey just read this thread... I bought one of these last year in Warwick at a junk shop for 15 pounds!! Bargain of last year!!
  5. This is nothing to do with me just saw this on ebay. Perhaps this will be at the next Braunston show! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RADIO-CONTROLLED-CANAL-NARROWBOAT-TRADITIONAL-STYLE-ONE-OFF-/200701022886?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item2ebab692a6#ht_500wt_1287
  6. Admiral has 10 of Usk's knees in it so it was there!!!
  7. I think there are definite advantages to both mediums but as some one who has just had my boat sign written I can only think that vinyl would not be able to compare to a sign writers work?
  8. Brinklow boats use a novel solution. They give the flat side of the bullseye a light "shot blast" then install them dome up, thus giving the same light into the cabin but there is no magnifying effect at all. From the outside you would never know.
  9. I recently (6 weeks) bought a 32X27. Cost was 865.00 pounds.
  10. Chris Thanks for the info. I managed to get a formula for the blade which is coming out at 32 X 23 so looks about right. I have space to turn a 35" blade but dont know how many problems that would give with picking up rubbish? Thanks Steve
  11. Does anyone have a list/program to work out blade sizes for engines? I am trying to work out the correct size blade on a JP2 with a 3:1 reduction on a Josher motor. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Steve
  13. Hi I am trying to find a supplier of decent engine room 12v dc distribution panels. Does anyone have any suggestions on where the best source of the boxes/enclosures might be? Any help would be appreciated Thanks Steve
  14. Not that long ago. Sad to see the other photos.
  15. This is the best all round set of codecs I have seen. It is free and has never contained viruses (my av program has never picked one up?) Click

  18. I have just finished a 4000 mile sea trip on my boat in the US and we installed AIS before we left, it has been the most amazing thing to have onboard. In the dark especially in heavy shipping lanes it has been essential. Technology, love it.

  21. Anyone know what the butty is?
  22. Going down Watford locks, lady on another boat said "thats an old boat is it not?" I replied "Yes" pleased that she recognised it, She then said "I knew because your BWB number is much less than ours."
