  1. Are you so certain they are innocent???????
  2. Hi everybody, just wanted to know how many members are attending the Ricky show this weekend and wondered if there was a member to member tricky recognition handshake that I knew nothing about. To identify us we will be on mooring position 23B so, one out from the bank right near all the action. Don't beware of the dog, he will only lick you to death!! Please stop and say hi, if you are passing. Chris and Les on Tripitaka
  3. Some time ago we got involved in a discussion about where to get proper mutton, rabbits etc.etc.etc. All you lucky boaters on the Shroppie have two choise!! The butcher in Gnossal is pretty good but the one in Brewwod, MAIDENS, is out of this world. All local stuff, all high quality and all at reasonable prices. We bought two rabbits, NETT weight, 4.2lbs for £3.50 each.
  4. Tyrley is not a water point any more, or, at least, is not dishing out water until the borehole problems are sorted. THe stuff we tasted from Greensforge was like NOTHING on earth!!! If you are ancient like me you may remember the smell when councils used to treat paths and pavements with weedkiller? This stuff reeked and left a white stain on the pavements? Well, that is jusat what the water smelt like. I know flouride, chlorine etc. We are ccers so are used to different tasting water around the system but this just was NOT water treatment, it was more like chemical warfare. I'm just waiting for the toilet seals to rot away and taps washers to disintegrate, OMG I hope Hep2o is impervious!!!!!
  5. Just to pass on a quick warning to anybody cruising the S&W. We filled with water at Greensforge yesterday morning only to find we had a tank full of an evil smelling chemical that was not just H2O! A strong chemical smell and taste made the water undrinkable, even worse when heated, the fumes/steam making our eyes stream with tears!! BW are on the case with the local water board. Apparently it is a common thing at that water point according to a BW guy who lives there. It can't be the same thing. The smell alone is enough to put you off water for life. We have also spent an inordinate amount of time and energy in the toilet and we only had one cup of coffee!! Oh for some REALLY soft toilet roll!! We are now moored back at Kinver draining and filling like mad to try and flush the evil stuff theough. It is all being investigated but please folks, BEWARE the water that ain't Chris

  7. Hi Nick As you will see, there are many opinions on this one. The cream brigade, of which I am one, use this colour, in the main, to reflect the heat in the summer. The silly thing I only found out this summer is that if you paint the roof white and then repaint it any colour you like, the heat will still be reflected by the white, back through the colour of your choice. Sounds impossible but I assure you it is a fact!! So, for comfort, paint it white and then for "looks" paint it any colour you like. Chris

  9. Yeah, and doesn't that just about sum up the whole stoopid situation? I have my own understanding of what IWA stands for but have never given the RYA much of a thought, possibly, Right Yottie A*****les Why would ANYBODY listen to them when debating an inland waterways issue???? They are the people that told me if I was self certificating a 60 foot narrowboat build I had to have a lifeboat and davits on it!!!!!

  11. Right on Ernie, I'm with you!! We ploughed on before CHristmas down south and some of the looks and comments caused my blood pressure to climb!! We are sitting on the mainline in Birmingham and have had very little moving past us. Unless you count the contractors work boat with a mini digger on front using the bucket to smash the ice in front of it to make forward passage!! That woke us up!!
  12. So when you do the maths you then know how long you have to run your engine to maintain your batteries at a suitable state of charge. If you have an engine that is only happy under load, and as we are no longer allowed to be moored with our engines in gear, isn't moving in gear a by product of your desire to charge your batteries? It all gets a bit "chicken and egg" after a while. Who decided on 60/40 anyway. I don't remember anybody consulting me on my usage. Mind you I am not a member of the august all-knowing IWA Chris too
  13. These water lubes have a habit of giving the odd drip mate, specially in very hot water conditions, also in very cold water conditions. Whichever applies to your current situation could be the cause!! An ice cream tub to catch the drip is probably the best bet. When you service, make sure you tighten everything equally and not too hefty with the tightener!!
  14. I have a name for you. . . . .this person sorted my renewal problem out earlier in the year, same problem as you, it was sorted IMMEDIATELY!! The lady is Jenny Barua, customer service team leader, phone 01923201120 e mail marked for her attention to enquiries.hq@britishwaterways.co.uk Just keep it between the two of us tho. . . . . . . wouldn't want everybody to know there is an efficient person at BW, they'd have nothing to moan about then!! Chris
