  1. I have seen warning for 60mph gusts which is not great news, any update from your often more accurate predictions?

  3. And from me happy birthday and all that. Isn't that a thoughtful post from the Boilerman, giving you the chance to hide next weekend
  4. The Llan rarely freezes, the flow is enough to keep it clear in all bu the worst winters. In fact the only time it seriously froze was when CRT reduced the flow during maintenance
  5. Never mind undercooked I don't like to eat fish in any way shape for form. Actually thats wrong, chippy fish swamped in malt vinegar and loads of salt is the only way I can eat fish
  6. And I would do that climb (with appropriate harness and strops ) but no way would I go down a half mile deep hole and wander about hacking coal out of the ground
  7. couldn't tell you but i do know the states have a rather carefree approach towards H&S, much of what i did when i was on the tools was powerline work and they work live on stuff we wouldn't touch without a shutdown and do seem to kill a fair few, apparently there is more litigation for outages over there so the power company's are very very reluctant to switch the power for routine works
  8. Seen that before and I am amazed he used no safety strop at all while climbing, even the strop used during the rest stop is dodgy
  9. If it helps, it wasn't exactly uncommon to see various stages of panic from death grip and shuffle along the railings to people practically crawling off the bridge. Heights take me in odd ways, no problem hanging by a rope from the top of a tree but put me at the top of a building and the butterflies start, I think its about the feeling of control
  10. Used to moor very near there and after the first few times I had no problems. It became a giggle tbh, I would sit on the roof on the scary side, walk along the roof ( that was a bit too much), get out and walk along side and pop back down into the boat and put kettle on or just avoid the photographs. Beautiful place
  11. Just listened to the track again and I can sorta see the hotel California link, Tulls much better though
  12. As you should have been, it made BSP dead chuffed.
  13. Ahh ok, I see where your coming from now. I think they were stumps from felled trees not pruning cuts. The chemical to treat stumps is often coloured to let the operator and client see whats been done. Plus wound paint is not used anymore, it was found to cause more problems than it cured, I think there is the occasional use in orchards to prevent silver leaf but very very occasional
  14. Thats nothing I have ever heard of before, have you experience of this? I must admit I am unsure why this would be done
  15. I could be up for that, if Laurence is happy with the idea and depending where in Shropshire, I could combine with a trip to see Sis, but the earliest would be weekend after next

  21. Not just underground cables, in a previous role I was surveying trees next to the National Grid overheads and we had a lot of historical data about line sag under load and some spans could drop 5m under heavy load

  23. Agreed I almost never use a head or any other sort of torch, I find them isolating, a few minutes in the dark and normally I can see well enough most nights. Funnily enough this morning was almost a torch morning, low cloud and mist but as the path was familiar I was fine
