  1. Tried to access the Blisworth Images for the pictures of working boats and was presented with this:

    Surprise!! - - - - replacement landing page

    * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
    * * * * * Unfortunately the funding (by TM) for this website will expire in Sept 2018. * * * * *
    * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

    Reduced functionality is offered from now until then, during which interval, funding could be arranged by someone else.
    Consequently it is recommended operation continues via the file "search.html" in this same /images/ path.
    The original landing page is stored as "index.oldhtml" which may be revived and editted.

    I.E. Please use "www.blisworth.org.uk/images/search.html" from now on

    Please note that (1): A member of the Blisworth PC was made aware of this planned future closure some months ago
    and that (2): A full copy of the website on CD has been acquired by the Blisworth Heritage Society.
    Thus the needs of the village have been answered at least in part, and I offer an apology for any inconvenience encounted.

    Punch Bowl in red

    The Punch Bowl2.JPG

    Found another picture by Reg Bull.

    Punch Bowl.jpg

    The Punch Bowl Inn at the bottom of Tuttle Hill was 50% owned by the Coventry Canal Coy. and Charles Mayer a director of Judkins Ltd. It was just about to be demolished in 1950. You can see why the canal bridge here is to widened. Beyond is the railway bridge at Nuneaton Abbey Street station. Judkins quarry is away to the left in this view and the entrance to Stoney Road was between the canal bridge and the railway bridge on the left.(Reg. Bull)

  3. Thomas Humphries AKA Oxford Tommy or Oxford Tom, was Mike's uncle. The residence on the marriage certificate mentions "The Punch Bowl" which incidentally was where Tom was born. The Punch Bowl Inn has long since been demolished, circa 1950.

    ETA. There is "new" Punch Bowl further up Tuttle Hill but it is now closed as a pub and is a pizza parlour

    These remarks make less sense now you have changed one of the pictures in your post - I knew I should have included them in the quote!

    (But here doesn't seem to be any blue on any of the mam's heads in the picture you have substituted ether, so I'm a bit confused!)

    There is blue on the rams head and mop of Sculptor. I did originally include two ex GU boats but I thought I'd better check FMC boats, as the model of Eagle depicts an FMC boat. FMC boats appear to have a different colour scheme for the rams head. i.e. red white and green. It is something, differing colour schemes for the rams heads, I had never really thought about.  Must go and peruse "Colours of the Cut."

     I also altered the wording as well.

  5. Not directly behind the fire. The wall beside the chimney was getting a bit warm so I installed some fire proof board with a air gap and sprayed it brown with this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warm-Brown-Stove-Spray-Bbq-Chimenea-Spray-Paint-400-ml-large-tin-Heat-Resistant/322646430182?hash=item4b1f39d1e6:g:K68AAOSwCypWoLxh

    The curtains are no longer ghastly green, but strangely enough no problem with the new curtains getting warm.

    Just to complete my search for twisted link chimney chain.

    I bought a 24" choke chain https://goo.gl/ubn9ux (Amazon link) and sprayed it with Halford's enamel spray adhesion promoter, followed by matt black.  It's as near as I can get to the original chain.   Mike Pinnock is going to make me a replica chimney.  So Bob's your uncle.

    Are you going for the "impoverished look?" A brass hook would look more in keeping than the plastic one. :D
