  1. I think that's quite correct. Our last boat was built by Devizes NBB on a Liverpool shell; this is a commonly used formula when stating a boat's origin. It could also have been styled 'Liverpool, fit-out by Devizes NBB' which you would, I suspect, find preferable. But there was nothing fraudulent about the Devizes company, they were as honest as the day was long.
  2. I was thinking along similar lines - but I would suggest that the registration is far more recent than 1992. Ours starts with 518 and she was first on CART waters about 2010. So, either the boat was kept on other waters for some time or, more alarmingly, it has been so neglected that it has achieved 'project boat' statue in little more than ten years.
  3. brainy blokes, them plummers - they know words wot teechjers don't. From recent experience, their communication skills aren't always great though. A local one, to whom we spoke on the phone a few weeks ago about a couple of bathroom jobs, has so far failed to reply to SIX answerphone messages about arranging an appointment.
  4. A greeno for this word, whose meaning is obvious but which I had never met before.
  5. Neither irrelevance nor aeroplanes contravenes our rules.
  6. Cor, what a navigator - Magpie or Magellan?

  8. More like 29 years - the last ones were outshopped in 1994. But your point is valid: these are old boats. On the other hand, they are characterful and often make good use of internal space, so a well-maintained example is worth considering. But, Kris, get a survey before parting with any money.

  11. A handsome-looking boat by a reputable builder, offered st a good price. That should be a Edited to add: I;ve just looked at the brokers' web site, and she appears to be under offer already, so it looks as if they are indeed doing their job.recipe for a quick sale, provided the brokers do their job properly.
  12. were they operational in 1991? I wonder if it could be an ex hire boat from Swan Line (who I'm pretty sure were a going concern at that time).
  13. ...especially then the water level is high, as it was when we took a Fox's hire boat through there some 20 years ago. I had to duck down to steer through it, and was thus unable to see the protruding tree branch which I duly hit on emerging from the bridge. Mrs. Athy's comment "I wondered when you were going to turn to miss the tree" seemed unhelpful at the time.
  14. Quite so, but in an ideal world there would be no need to make that choice.
  15. You make complete sense, and I certainly wouldn't argue with someone who obviously knows more about a subject than I do. No one on CWDF would do that. Would they?
  16. I mthought that was used by brokerage companies rather than by private sellers, buty as I said, I shan't argue. The boat appears from the (indistinct) photos to have a front cabin extension. What's that made of, or is it just a cratch?
  17. I think you're wrong - it doesn't make sense to have a survey after you've agreed to buy a boat - but as it's 25 years since we bought a second-hand boat, things may have changed so I shan't argue.
  18. Surely that's exactly what most surveyors do?
  19. Perhaps in the sense that he was, er, attending to his ablutions at the time of their arrival.
