  1. my boat has hydraulic drive and every so often makes a knocking sound on the motor when first run like theres air in the system... i would like to get the system serviced with new oil etc and checked over but dont know where to go as my local boat yards wont touch it.. im near northampton if anyone can help... cheers

  7. thanks for your replys... really want a surface mounted gauge so i dont need to cut a hole in the box... ive found one on ebay that says water pressure gauge and goes upto 120psi,,its solid brass... any reason a water pressure gauge couldnt be used? cheers
  8. does anyone know where i could buy an external oil pressure gauge to fit to my pigeon box as i only have the one fitted direct on the engine? thanks

  11. im in the middle of repainting my boat and fancy scumbling a frame around the inset panel on the outside of the boat.. anyone know what paint to use as the base colour on steel? also any tips would be great... thanks
  12. the only place that has cutters in plantprep in mk... they have c2 cutters... do you think they will be upto the job as ive been using c6..... cheers

  14. im scabbling my boat but the cutters are blunt but need them asap as im in a rented tunnel or even if i have to hire another scabbler.. anyone know if theres anywhere near northampton to get some ? thanks again
  15. im painting my roof at the moment and its getting hot quickly in the day ... ive just prepped and painted the roof yesterday in red oxide and today want to get first coat of raddle red on asap... can i just paint first coat straight on the red oxide or will i need to sand the roof first? thanks again
  16. thanks... i didnt think it would all go the same colour so i think staining might be the only option.... the problem is all the wood has been oiled with danish oil.. will stain go over the top ok?
  17. my boat is lined with ash faced ply which has aged and gone to golden colour... ive brought some more as refitting some of the boat and its alot lighter in colour and also the ash ive brought is 2 different shades.... im just wondering over time will it all go the same colour or will it always be different? thanks
  18. i want to get 2 brass old fashioned gimble type lights for my cabin but cant find where to buy them unless anyone has a couple they want to sell? any help would be great..
  19. thanks guys... will cap and see if the others still work.... its to be removed permanently as need the wall space... i still have 3 more rads on the boat and its a webasto boiler so hopefully will put less strain on the system .... cheers
  20. i want to remove a radiator from my boat and wondered do i need to cap the 2 pipes or do i have to link them together? still want to keep the other rads working.. thanks
  21. just noticed on fb that blisworth tunnel boats are looking to rent out there moorings of 470ft for £600 a month as a buisness oppurtunity... looks a bargain to me.. can be double moored aswell.. just incase anyone is interested i thought i would post here
  22. cheers, its a boatyard thats doing it so hopefully know how thin roofs are... theres no paint on the roof so one less thing to get in the boat.. lucky the wife works as a narrowboat cleaner..lol
  23. thanks for the tips ..... they said they will block off all entry points with ply and tape... boat needs a good clean anyway so a little grit will be ok... fingers crossed it wont be to much... as for rust treatment i gather thats not needed after its been blasted... so just straight on with the red oxide
  24. im having my roof sandblasted next month as quite rusty on the surface... do i still need to put rust converter on the roof before painting the red oxide primer? thanks
