  1. I was pleased when I found a nice length of extraction pipe from which i have made my silencer. I haven't properly fitted it yet, but it is sat in place. Now someone has said that it could give off potentially lethal gas and as it's in the cabin may not be the best idea.. I know that it's not a good idea to weld galvanised steel but don't know if an exhaust will get hot enough to cause concern.. So, do I start again? Casp'
  2. Finally got around to doing some work on fitting this engine.. Made a starter motor bracket to hold the Volvo starter. Fuel line. Home made exhaust... Wiring next, and probably have to shim the starter motor to get it to engage correctly. Casp'
  3. This is the set-up we did on my brother's boat, toilet to the right, bath to the left, corridor down the middle, but the toilet shut off. The toilet doors opened either end to shut off the corridor forming a larger bathroom. With this set-up the toilet can also be used without closing off the corridor for access beyond if needed. It's worked well for them.
  4. This is my silencer.. I suppose it's single chamber, or no chamber depending on what that means.. Casp'
  5. Winter moorings are certainly set at a level which discourages people from wanting to take one up. But we all know that C&RT are here to drain as much money from boaters as they can, after all, they've got to spend loads on towpaths and wildlife.. Casp'
  6. My brother's dog fell off the boat into the cut, it swam to the bank and seeing a chap fishing, the dog swam up to him, presumably thinking the chap would help him out. Instead the fisherman pushed the dog back into the canal as he was worried it was getting close to his equipment.. If I had been able to pull over I would have thrown the chap in, hateful man.. Casp'
  7. Are women allowed to fish there? I see plenty of people fishing by the bollards, I think they see them as mushrooms and are drawn to them, for some reason...

  9. Sciatica stops play ... But I have managed to get a video to work, I hope.. Casp'
  10. Once I edited it with the one program it would then play with the VLC.. It's all gobbledegook to me.. Wonder if this one plays... It was taken with a phone and has not been edited. It shows that you don't need these massive engines people fit, the boat towing weighs 22 ton and only has a Lister SL2, it is towing a 43 foot boat.. Casp'
  11. Downloaded the AVS one, put a video on it and trimmed it from 40 minutes to just a couple, played ok on that, but it jumps a second or so at a time so sound was odd but thought this was just while editing. It wanted me to chose a format (i've no idea so picked MPEG), it saved on my pc. Went to play it on pc but there is only sound, no picture... Maybe I should just give up.. This video i'm been trying to play was taken with a Kodak camera onto a standard SD card..
  12. That seems to suggest that it only works on Windows 10.. Just tried that, it plays it to an extent but the sound is poor and the video is very jerky, I couldn't see how to edit it, it would only play if you watched it from the very beginning, fast forwarding and then playing just seems to make it freeze.
  13. We took a few videos with different cameras and a phone, but on loading them onto this pc, with Windows 8, none of them work properly, either just sound and no video or the opposite, and I can't edit them at all, so there is about 10 minutes of us just chatting before we start, as my daughter set them up and left them on for ages.. With my old pc I could edit video easily, but this one just says the codex or something isn't in a format it can read.. I'm not very techy.. Casp'
  14. Ha.. Just to ruin your image, that is my daughter on the bicycle and she is stopped with one foot on the ground. She is holding a camera.. Casp'
  15. We towed Casper up the canal behind Badger; which is a 31 year old, 66 foot boat built by my Dad. Badger only has a 1963 Lister SL2, which isn't much power for a 22 ton boat, but it seems to chug along ok, albeit a little slow.. Having some difficulty getting more pictures to load at the mo.. Casp'
  16. Crane returned this weekend so we lifted the engine in. Now to connect it all up. Unfortunately nothing is in the same place, with the starter motor bracket looking like providing the most fun to adjust.. If I can manage to get the pics off my camera and onto this laptop I'll add some later.. Casp'

  18. I'm about to fit a Ruston 1VSH, but it's not very powerful.. Casp'
  19. If you went for a horizontal single cylinder then the sky's the limit in terms of power, but possibly a bit on the large size.. Casp'
  20. It's a lovely stretch, but rather spoilt by the way the locals treat it; and I really mean the dog walkers.. It's disgraceful by the village.. Casp'
  21. I'd need a high bridge as the engine has to be lowered in through the roof. Also the engine weighs 850 lbs, so it's a game just getting it out of the trailer and onto the front deck (though we could manage that) before we can hang it off a bridge. It isn't a big crane we used , it's a sort of tractor crane thing, but it can lift 3.5 ton and is very controllable. Casp'
  22. This short prop shaft goes between the engine and the gearbox, but it's been there for 6 years and on removal the uj's are fine. Unfortunately the crane that lifted the old engine out has been rented out to a builder so I'll have to wait for it's return before I can get the engine put in. No idea yet when that will be, it's a bit open ended.. Casp'
  23. Hi. I've just checked mine and the shaft will be at about 6 degrees. I was always told that the shaft should be at an angle as they do not like being straight. Not sure whether the 6 degrees will cause any trouble for my shaft. I put the yokes at 90 degrees to each other as that it was the manufacturer says, but that is when they are fitted on a car so I don't know what angle the shaft would be at then. I guess my shaft will be spinning at a max of about 800 rpm.. Casp' Ed' Just watched an interesting video on youtube, they show the speed altering with angles wrong etc, but they show that being in phase is setting the uj's up as I have, so the yokes being 90 degrees from each other, whereas your diagram clearly shows the yokes being inline, which they say is out of phase.. They also show that as long as the angles of the uj's are the same at each end, which of course mine will be on a boat setup, then any speed alteration is cancelled out.. Anyway, i'm satisfied so I'll leave mine as they are.
  24. Yes, I remember seeing a good video showing how the uj's rotate. We went through it all last time, but no tea answer was found. I only know that it hasn't made any difference on any of our boats which all use this setup and the uj's are connected almost randomly. Maybe it's just because the revs are fairly low.
