You boating lot have the weirdest gadgets! Does anyone know what this is for please? - I'm talking about the bungee cord and brackets btw... I already know what the fire extinguisher and radiator do (before I get too many smart replies :))

Thanks everyone, I hadn't really considered that the boat might have ballast at both ends to make it float at the right draft (if that's the correct terminology). I also hadn't considered that it would "handle" better at the right pitch, very interesting.

We have started looking at boats with a view to buying ourselves one. In the bow of a boat we have looked at there is a collection of bricks and also 2 paving slabs on the well deck. I realise that these must be ballast but I’m sure the boat wasn’t designed that way originally and the boat seems to be in its original configuration, so what might have changed to require this “modification”. Can anyone suggest a good reason? I’m scratching my head! thanks in advance.
