  1. Hello all, I’d like to investigate the feasibility of importing a Dutch barge myself from Netherlands, and first of all would love any pointers on any online listings sites I should check out. I know Apollo Duck lists boats from NL and elsewhere, but if there somewhere better that I’m not aware of..?
  2. @Dav and Pen Amazing thank you for this intel – I've just emailed Whittens! Out of interest – and if you're willing to divulge – where in Ireland did it come from, where in the UK did it get transported to, and how much did the exercise cost you? Were there any issues or things you wish you'd have done/known?
  3. @Tony Brooks @Alan de Enfield Apologies, both – I seem to have overlooked that semi-suggestion and kind offer from Alan. Yeah so obvs now that you know the make/model, you know it’s not seaworthy… I’ll definitely bear you in mind if ever I do purchase one though, Alan! ☺️
  4. @Tony Brooks (and @matty40s) I think you've misread my request – there's no way I'd think about sail this boat (or any, in fact) across the Irish Sea! I was asking for info about a logistics company to transport it over to the UK (from Rep. of Ireland) for me to use as a liveaboard in London. @Loddon There are tons of GRP boats just like the Bermuda used as full-time liveaboards here in London. I'm curious, what exactly makes you say this? In your opinion, can it not be insulated and adapted?
  5. Oo I've just noticed the last two links (to the two cheaper boats) you sent in your previous post, @John Brightley, apols – I've actually already reached out to these people! Great minds
  6. Thanks @John Brightley – these look great! However the Bermuda I've found in Ireland is €15k (so £13.3k), so even with the bits of work that need to be done, it *might* be worth transporting it over here, financially. It's a long shot but hey might as well follow the path and see where it leads.... I've learned a huge amount through researching and speaking to people the last couple of years, and even if I don't end up buying something, I know whatever I learn will be helpful, inform the next boat I look at and might open up more possibility
  7. @ditchcrawler Giving it a go... Been doing my homework on boats for two years now!
  8. There don't seem to be any for sale in the UK right now. Also, the Bermuda I've found in Ireland is in good nick for a price that I could afford – so I want to find out what's involved in getting it over here rather than assuming it'd be too expensive/too much hassle
  9. @BEngo Thanks for your reply – I've dropped AB Tuckey an enquiry I'll also contact HMRC tomorrow, good suggestion. In answer to your questions... 1. DRAFT Here are all the dimensions – so it should be OK on the Thames, right?: 2. LOGISTICS Thank you for chipping in also, @Alan de Enfield! The boat is a Bermuda 34 (built by F.B. Wilds – take a look @ this page for pics: http://fbwilds.horning.org.uk/page3.html)
  10. Hi there, I’ve found my dream Cruiser at a price I can afford, however it’s in the Republic of Ireland, and I live in London. Having done some research into how to do this/what’d be required/cost/logistics companies, I’m stumped. Lots of the stuff I’m finding is talking about yachts and Malta and Brexit and the tax implications. Here are the dimensions of the boat I’m looking at bringing over: LOA: 10.29m / 33’9” Beam: 3.61m / 11’10” Can anyone recommend any logistics companies, and are there any other aspects I’d need to consider? (I read via another post on this forum that a police escort would potentially be required for boats wider that 3.5m: … Also, presumably I’d need to pay 20% VAT on the purchase price…? Here’s what I’m thinking I’d need, transport-wise: LORRY: Longford > Dún Laoghaire FERRY: Dún Laoghaire > Holyhead LORRY: Holyhead > London So that’s be 1.5hrs by road in Ireland, then ferry, then 5.5hrs by road in the UK – unless I get the boat dropped at a waterway via which I can reach London on my newly acquired boat?! I have time (not £££) on my side at the moment. Any advice/pointers very much appreciated! (P.S. I plan to be a continuous cruiser when I finally get on the water, and have been researching for three years… So with this – and the facts that I’ve spoken with lots of (ex-) boat-dwelling friends and acquaintances AND have a good boat-builder/several carpenter friends, I’m confident I’m now in a good position and know what it’ll take to make the move onto water.)
