  1. Yes we did, we noticed no flow at all. To be honest had we gone without any research we would never have realised the river was flowing into the canal!
  2. Hi, We are looking to navigate this stretch this coming weekend. CRT says - Navigation between Stoke Bruerne Lock 20 and Cosgrove Lock 21 is now possible with care. Please be aware of strong currents and an increase in water levels due to adverse weather. Anything in particular we should be aware of? I assume it would not be sensible to moor up here overnight?
  3. I haven't tried anything yet! Just trying to get some ideas on how to assault the problem 🙂.
  4. Hi, I have a similar Morse controller which is very stiff (especialliy in reverse) to move past the initial movement into gear. Should I try and reduce the friction as described in this thread or should I be dong somthing else to loosen it up a bit?
  5. Hi, We were thinking of going from Napton to Warwick next week, but apparently HS2 has closed the navigation Between Bridge 30 Welsh Road and Bridge 31 Longhole Bridge near Ufton (is it really closed?) until 1st of March. The CRT site says Upstream winding hole: Winding Hole Nimrod and Winding Hole 2, where are these winding holes? I can't find them on a any map!
  6. Just wondering, does anyone know why the down stream locks on the Oxford canal are octagonal?
  7. Thanks all, my mind is now more at rest! I will look into investing in a decent multi meter!
  8. Yes two warning lamps both go out when I start the engine. No strange smells from batteries - they are sealed units. I will check for hot spots when I next run the engine for a reasonable time. (BTW with engine running voltmeter on board says appr 14v - not that I think it is very accurate) Sorry if I appear a bit paranoid - I have lots of practical experience of older classic petrol cars but little of diesel and leisure systems - and have never had to be fully reliant on them for periods of time!
  9. Yes two charging lamps on engine board! So according to that everything working fine. Only indication that somthing might be wrong is the inverter/charger warming up enough to run it's cooling fan. (No smells or hot spots) Yes I do have a multi meter where how do I use it?
  10. Having gone for a long trip (6 hours) I would have expected my house battery bank to be pretty much full. On plugging back into the shoreline and puting my inverter to charge (its a Victron inverter /charger) it seemed to be working hard to charge the house batteries (it's cooling fan was on for at least 3-4 hours). Is there any (easy!) way of telling wether my leisure battery alternator battery is working? I assume the alternator warning light on the engine display is for the engine battery and alternator is for that system only. the only other indicator I have is a voltage indicator on the electric switchboard?
  11. Given that there seems to be a google map for everything these days, is there a map for good parking near canals somwhere? (especially interested in Braunston / midlands area)
  12. Hi, Having had the (very Rotten) pump out tank removed from our boat and replaced with a cassette toilet we have noticed a slight list due to the lack of weight on that side - most noticible in that the shower does not drain to the plughole anymore. The tank was on the floor boards and so the floor boards have not been lifted and I do not want to ripout the bed etc to get the floor lifted to play with the balast under the floor. I think that the removed tank must have weighed approx 160KG empty so I am proposing to stack concrete slabs/bricks or similar in the space left by the tank , ideally next to the side of the boat so that we can use the remaining space for storage. Does this sound reasonable? Any tips or better solutions?
  13. Hi, Just a quick update, I have now got the 3 package to work with a different Router so all is well now! Thanks for all the replies
  14. Well, 3 say is not thier problem, So I will try our company IT people......
  15. I am afraid that I don't know what the issue is, I was told specifically by Smarty that they don't do VPN
  16. Hi I have set up for Wifi on my boat which works well, the idea behind this is that occasionally I can work from home on the boat. For this I will need approx. 20GB of data a month. So I ideally want some sort of data package for £10-£15 a month and not go down the route of a contract for £30+ a month. However my company uses a VPN to access the company server and apparently a VPN is not supported by ID mobile, Smarty, 3 (although buying a data sim off 3 did work, a sim and a data pack don't). Has anyone else had this problem? And can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks
  17. Thanks IanD, where is the nearest place on the canal to these moorings?
  18. Sorry, where abouts is this? Google puts it on the Llangothlyn canal? (We are planning on travelling that way (down Netherton Tunnel on the Dudley Canal not Wales) next week!)
  19. Porta Potti in it's place!
  20. Quick update - still awaiting a quote / timing for tank removal. Meanwhile I am proposing to remove the throne and cover up the drop hole in the top of the tank with a 3mm steel sealed with plumbers mait, does anyone see any issues with that? TIA
  21. We will get it done properly but for the 2 months or so between now and getting it done we would like to use the boat - thus short term fix
  22. Capping off may be a short term fix so we have somwhere to put a porta potti!
