PLerase find below a link to a canalside pub guide that I produce It contains info to whether the pubs on a canal have WiFi If you find more, please advise and I will update the guide
  2. Only one word of advice in that the earlier in the day that you go down the flight the better It is relatively easy to work and single handed takes me nearly 4 hours so a 3 hour journey for a boat with crew is easy Links to pubs in the area around the top lock below
  3. And you can now apply on line http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/product1?catId=400040&mediaId=600008 If you need to show a 'utility' bill for the future, I'm sure they will also accept your driving licence (and passport) which you will have regstered at an address where you wnat your mail sent to
  4. If anyone wants to collect their mail from a Royal Mail Delivery Office, they can do under a service called Mail Collect but there must be an associated local address The increase in PO Box fees is apparently to reflect more closely the actual cost of the service
  5. 2ft back counter 9ft boatmans cabin 6ft engine room 6ft well deck/tug deck 3ft bow but ! go and look around some boats for sale to get a 'feel' of hwo big the space feels and how much you would want to extend from the cabin sides and bulkheads which will make the inside of the cabin feel much smaller If you have a rough plan, put masking tape on your living room caprpet which will at least give you an idea how mush room you have and it will depend if you are little people or have been drinking lots of beer over the years !
  6. Bridgewater looks agood bet You could hire from Claymore Naivigation at Preston Brook which gives you more tha two directions to explore http://www.canalandriversidepubs.co.uk/pubs/Bridgewater.htm http://www.canalandriversidepubs.co.uk/pubs/T-&-M-West-2.htm
  7. I've used both as I hate to spend more than necessary but always want a good job The bitumen looks good when first going on but will discolour into a grey quite quickly The 'other' coverings, at a higher, price are superior and last better over a two year period between blackings I always put two coats on plus a 3rd around the water line which suffers the mosr where (except the bits you scrape along the brickwork)
  8. Thnk you ought to show an act of faith by giving them say 10/20% of the total cost which still allows you to haggle with the eventual price

  10. Perkins still manufcature so either one of their distributors or themsleves should be able to advise what is recommended for the engine model
  11. You may like to look at the following website link below I run - all the pubs listed have telephone numbers so they should be able to advise if they can do food for you all If you find anything has changed, I'll happily update the website to reflect current state
  12. Perhaps ther is a principle of tying up to be exapnded here When leaving the boat, its always a good idea to leave a light on to give the perception that someone is on board Also when tying off, the rope should ALWAYSs be taken to the bank and tied off on the boat with the loose ends tied on the far dolly/T stud - you never know when the locals will strike !
  13. Use a 28 inch chimney and, if yours is a traditional looking boat, a tine can to extend the height
  14. I've had some success with Halfords Leisure batteries - could be said to be a tat expensive at £139 but have two year guarantee and mine have last over 3 years with heavy use
  15. I was at Aston last week - still looks very empty
  16. Take the batteries to Halforeds or Kwik Fit and have them tested so ou know whethert they have become life expired Remember that batteries only alst two years unless they are very well looked after
  17. I think I read somewhere that the signal strength is reduced outside of business hours Also the signal strength is not the key - if many users are connected to the same cell, the signal strength may be strong but the download speed can be poor Why don't you go to the local pub that has WiFi, download the programme you want to see on BBC iPlayer and then go back to the boat and watch in comfort at broadcast quality with no signal issues ?
  18. Think you have the right on at number 1
  19. Think the water in the stove is boiling so the auto cut out works and shuts down the stove During the cold weather, the temperature gradient between the air and the stove/radiators is greater so more of the heat is taken out of the water so it wil not tend to boil. With a higher outside temperature, less is transferred so the water (if not circulated through the back boiler of the stove)becomes hotter and will boil and then shut down Cure ?? - ensure the water is circulating with a pump and keep the stove working at a minimum setting
  20. There is a cast metal plate under one of the bridges on The Stratford Canal near to Hockley Heath as a dividing line between the Trent and the River Severn
  21. Not heard that No 9 has gievn trouble before Marston Doles top is supposed to be a little narrow
  22. 23. I use it as a way over saving money over the next 6 months until they have another one It makes a worthwhile difference on a tin of blacking at circa £30 !

  25. I used to have one of these engines in my boat Very good but a lot a vibration against the Gardner I now have installed I used to have a 22 x 22 prop and she would not rev above 900 rpm - my conclusion was that the engine was overpropped
