  1. Thanks for your comments. Had them for years. First things I bought via eBay many moons ago. They are presently in my lads loft in Maidstone as we live onboard. I will have a go at them. Tried to sell them, half heartedly, a few years ago but didn’t get much interest. The clock ‘ding’ ships watches, which is really nice.
  2. I’ll get myself some cellulose thinners and give it a try. I don’t mind the periodic attack with polish. Thanks to both.
  3. To be honest I’m not sure. On the side of the barometer it is worse. I need someone who knows to let me know.
  4. A slight move to off topic but similar. I own two items that require (excuse the terminology) rebrassing. what type of company does this please?
  5. The comments I have made are my own genuine findings and opinions. if!, I don’t agree with anyone else’s findings of opinions it’s not really my fault nor responsibility.
  6. Nilfisk was and probably still is Avery good product. When working for a major facilities company we worked closely with Nilfisk during their time redeveloping to become competitively priced for the commercial market. Numatic Vacuums are excellent quality. And they work. My Dyson gave us three vacuum cleaners to trial in about 2003 (ish). The majority of my 90+ cleaning staff tried them. Filled out a questionaire. To be honest the general consensus was ‘no thanks’. My Dyson is possibly very good at marketing. Good luck to him though. He has more money than I.
  7. Amazing that Mr Dyson is still getting away with the poor build quality of his vacuums and other bits and bobs. Walk around many markets and you will find stalls ‘specialising’ in Dyson resales and/or repairs.

  9. In 2005 we bought Nightwatch, a Dave Clarke hull. It was 13 years into its life even then. We moved permanently onboard in 2014 and still live onboard. A couple of years ago, due to insurance requirements, we had a hull survey carried out. Apart from three small areas of pitting, that was corrected immediately, it passed the survey with flying colours. We are pleased with the boat. We have done lots to Nightwatch over the years but not to the hull. I can’t vouch for other hulls built by them, just my opinion on ours. Enjoy. Before someone adds, we are glad all over.
  10. The boxing brothers, Minter. In a pub in, I think, Ruislip. Early seventies.

  14. Our so called Aircraft Carriers have cables as think as your legs in the machinery compartments. Sounds dodgy to me. Steam engines always seem reliable as were gas turbine engines. If it works, don’t fix it!
  15. The navy as I knew it doesn’t exist anymore. The quality of equipment is inferior, the leadership, comradeship commitment of personnel leaves much to be desired. Sadly, the lads and lasses that serve nowadays have next to nothing to be proud of. For instance, those funny shaped destroyers have had to have millions spent on them to make them move. The massive two white elephants that they call aircraft carriers are proving to be a waste of tax payers money. Money saving by consecative governments is now showing. The dockyards are almost non existent. The skills and commitment of dockies has been stripped. All very sad times. I’m shocked, but not completely surprised this has occurred. It’s nothing new. Anyone remember the Mermaid and Fittleton accident. The Penelope accident. All sorts have been happening over the years. The calibre of Officers is not up to scratch. No respect down through the ranks. There, I feel a little better. The sooner I leave crazy world the better. I fear for the future unless someone wakens up and makes decisive changes to how we progress. Old ways are, in many respects, better ways.
  16. I have opened it and read it, briefly, so that ought to have made it disappear.
