  1. Planned for 1st April but posted too early, I reckon!
  2. Indeed and its a curious thing. When I lived aboard I realised I no longer enjoyed my boating. The boat became just the place I went to cook/eat and sleep. Filling the water tank, emptying the bog and changing gas bottles became a tedious chore. Now I'm living on the bank, going to the boat has become a treat again.
  3. Yes they do, once in a while. I've had CRT demand to see my insurance certificate at least once.
  4. Hmmmm Solvol Autosol was always my favourite. Before I realised polishing brass was dangerous and could harm the health of the history attached to your boat.
  5. Me! I remember wire being specified by number of strands and their diameter. Still see it occasionally, I think on American sites. Hmmm maybe that isn't it....
  6. I'd expect wire wool dipped in ANY sort of metal polish to work really well, once the lacquer has been removed with cellulose thinners.
  7. Me! Because I actually do something useful to contribute to society and get paid quite well for it. Instead of freeloading.
  8. Seconded. Also known as "nail varnish remover" if you like paying ten times the price for it!
  9. AND they get a year of free moorings.
  10. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  11. I'd suggest CRT never did, having only been in existence since 2012 (was it?). BW before them probably did, however.
  12. Surely this is exactly the circumstance for which the current law was written. People actually living aboard whilst cruising the network would have no need to moor the boat for periods of up to two weeks.
  13. Remember the earthquake in Liverpool back in 2018? Apparently there was almost 50p-worth of damage.
  14. And my wife, a keen knitter, used to refer to mooring up as "casting on".
  15. You obviously haven't looked much at quantum physics then!
  16. You're right! I thought it looked a bit wrong, hence my "IIRC". QUANGO = quasi-autonomous non-governmental organisation. That's better.
  17. QUANGO = quasi-autonomous national government organisation, IIRC.
  18. The thing you are missing is few NBTA members pay ANY mooring fees, as far as I can see! But I understand the point you meant to make. I just posted in an over-simplifed manner to make my own point that both mortgage-holders and renters living on the bank have seen far larger increases in their expenses than CCers and CMers. Boaters without a home mooring, even after the rises are applied, will still be enjoying the cheapest accommodation available in England and Wales by a long chalk so deserve little sympathy.
  19. They should be so lucky. Plenty of landies have seen their mortgage costs rise by 250%. 25% rise spread over four years is barely more than inflation. In fact it's possibly less.
  20. Let down by the forum software. It was a joke. Its a non-existent URL. Previous versions would have made it a clickable link which adds credibility. www.nit-pickers-r-us.com Nope. Looks like the forum software actually checks URLs now!! nit-pickers-r-us.com Ah, that works though!
  21. ESPECIALLY once sale of the filled-in land is factored in.
  22. A website you'll probably be fascinated with Alan! nit-pickers-R-us.com
  23. Baffling. I'm certain my ol' Squirrel didn't have anything like that inside when it fell to bits.
