Spruced up a pair of old life rings to finish of the recent re-paint of HATFIELD. Looks straight forward but it's stretched my patience, first off, during the painting one of them fell down and got covered in sawdust, while the paint was still wet. Then it was a struggle to get the lettering on, trying to apply a sticker to a curved surface doesn't work, had to end up cutting into individual letters and making a curved template but worked in the end. Finally, ordered some new 8mm man made hemp rope and they sent 10mm, so had all the holes to drill, at least nowt much more could have gone wrong. All worth it though, pleased with the results.....

This is the reason some streams in mining areas are orange, due to ockerwatter. Iron ore deposits resulting in water stained by ochre. This is a disused mine I explored c1981.

You could try making your own small scale steamer by wrapping wet rags around the plank and then 'ironing' with an old electric iron.

I knew he was going to tie a noose as soon as he folded those first loops. By rights he should have ended up with thirteen coils though. Wether this was where thirteen became 'unlucky for some ' I have no idea.

Fitted my third last week. First did around six years but the second no more than two. (Both stripped gears). Contacted Whale asking for a parts list/diagram, didn't expect to receive one and I wasn't disappointed. Such a difference in durability suggests either poor quality control or deliberate weakening to ensure premature failure. Can anyone recommend a durable alternative?

That's a lovely old thing, blacksmith forged from one piece, split down the middle with a hot chisel (as opposed to a cold chisel) and then the hook/cutter forged out. Perfect tool for the job......

Taken during work to remove a tyre. Hacksaw is most of the way through, mole grips and rope to pull tyre up and keep it rigid.

Yes, not reversible but they do swivel outward to bring the nav lights into view. Here's a pic of the port light.

Some people's memories are far too good. I'll be practicing my joinery skills too, that wheelbox top will be getting replaced by something wooden and original looking. Thanks, she was starting to look very shabby, quite an effort but worth it.
