  2. You are mistaken. If you want to do notifiable work in a dwelling and do not wish to have to notify your local authority building control you must be a member of a self certification scheme, this could be BRE, BSI, ELECSA, NAPIT or NICEIC. If the electrical installation certificate is for a premises other than a dwelling or for presenting to building control there is no requirement to be registered with anyone. Ike (ex NICEIC member)
  3. Wasn't trying to suggest it was. Simply trying to make the point that knowing how well the cathodic protection is working is probably far less useful on a fresh water boat that's out of the water every three years than an oil rig in the middle of the North Sea.
  4. It's my understanding that a dip cell survey wouldn't actually tell you anything about the condition of the hull, only that of anodes. It's perfectly possible to have brilliant anodes on a hull that was well knackered. If a boat was blacked well, even after three years without anodes I wouldn't expect there to be too much rusting at which point it would be out of the water again anyway. IMHO while very valuable for offshore installations at a greater cost than a days dry docking it really isn't worth it for small inland craft.

  6. Also have you thought about what you'd do if your cleaning uncovered any holes in the fuel tanks and/or hull?
  7. The rope was probably just looped over the 'luby', any kind of backwards pull would have caused this to fold down and the rope to fall off. In defence of Sue with the pounds being so short on that bit of the Rochdale it is quite common to see water cascading over the first few sets of gates then find yourself scraping along the bottom a few pounds higher up.
  8. But nobody is suggesting we mix acetone with sealant and smear it around boats...
  9. I figured as much so didn't want to pester them with loads of emails. I've been meaning to visit for a while now just never managed to find the time.
  10. Yes thanks, spot on.
  11. Thanks Carl. Don't suppose anyone has a copy they could email me do they? I tried to join the internal fire website a while ago and got a message telling me I'd have to email them so I did and still haven't got a reply.
  12. Does anyone know where I might get hold of drawings showing the eccentric/reversing mechanism on a direct reversing Bolinder? Anyone know any books that have them? Any other diagrams, drawings or service information would also be useful. Ike Mods - Didn't know where to put this so feel free to move it to wherever you see fit.
