  1. Hi with the horizontal tank is the top hose the hot or cold? At the moment the tanks oriented so they’re the same. Hi thanks I’ll try that with the valve. Because it only happens in the early hours can’t really check if the water is coming out the side. The engine bay tank sits in a round shallow ‘tray’ that gets water in it.
  2. Hi Hope someone can help, in the early hours of the morning lately we're hearing a rumble similar to the sound of air bubbles running through the water pipework and the intermittent sound of water pouring into the calorifier in the engine bay, similar to someone pouring water into a bucket with water already in. Now the calorifier in the engine bay doesn't have an expansion tank fitted, instead coming out of the top is a hose leading through an air vent grate in the side of the boat and out. Does this mean our system is never pressurised fully as it's open to the outside all the time? Could this be the cause of the noises we're hearing as it's driving us up the wall!! we're moored in a marina with electric hook up and have a second water tank under the bed with an immersion heater which gives us hot water at the moment, strange set up yes but it's what we inherited. Can I put some valves in the lines to and from the calorifier and actually isolate it when not cruising? We're living aboard now and using the hot water more before during weekends etc we never heard the noises. Thanks in advance Stuart
  3. Hi its a heath robinson affair but after doing a piping diagram I figured it out 😀 thanks for the advice it’s something we need to sort properly!
  4. Hi We have a boat that we’re living on with a calorifier in the engine bay. This feeds another water tank under our bed with an immersion heater. I think the initial idea was to use the calorifier when cruising and the immersion heater tank when moored with electric hookup. How does the calorifier get filled up with water from the main water tank without it being pumped from the tank? How would the water tank under the bed get filled up? We have to close a valve between the two tanks to use the immersion heater. Thanks stuart
  5. It’s a Heath robinson system the previous owner used, we have a calorifier that doesn’t work which feeds into a tank under our bed with an immersion heater on it that plugs into the socket when needed and feeds the shower but nothing else.
  6. Hi we have a stove in the living room but no heating elsewhere and our hot water system doesn’t work so what’s the alternative for a live aboard boat? Thanks
  7. Hi everyone i’m after experiences living with them and preferences etc.
  8. Hi Were looking to install a heating/ hot water system so Webasto or Eberspacher? No dodgy Russian or Chinese systems though!😀
  9. Hi when we bought our boat we inherited two chairs. They have a pull out leg rest then the back folds down flat and using a pull out head rest become a single bed. They need to be reupholstered as they are tired and worn but they are free! They can be collected from Otherton boat haven at penkridge near Stafford. I have more photos showing the chair folded out if you want it. thanks
  10. Hi We’ll have to wait and see !thanks I was wondering about a chemical paint remover and had heard about diesel but I’m not sure about any of that in a water tank. Was going to see if you can get perhaps a wire brush grinder disc???
  11. As you might’ve guessed I’m a newbie what’s the best way to remove it can any sort of tar removal liquid be used or is it a case of mechanical scraping? Thanks
  12. Thanks everyone time to get the angle grinder, drill, wire brush and elbow grease out! Yippee the joys of boating 😀 still love it tho
  13. Hi thanks for that we did get wire brushes and drill wire brush bits on it. I’m guessing it’s the not washing down after using the fertan. Do I have to try and get off the paint we have applied or can I just to fix the patches where the rust is? Thanks
  14. Hi The temperature was fine it certainly wasn’t cold, we didn’t rinse the tank after using the fertan and I don’t remember any condensation prior to blacking we even had a little blow heater down there. We used rylard water tank paint which we’d seen on a few YouTube videos. The paint people suggested the tank wasn’t properly clean prior to painting. Question is what do we do now? Thanks
  15. Hi We recently repainted our water tank, we drained it, scraped out all the rubbish, treated it with fertan, did one coat of paint then when touch dry we did a second coat. We’ve filled and drained the tank twice but still noticed a chemical smell and taste! We had to leave it for a few weekends but when I drained it the other day I noticed patches where the metal was bare and rusty. The water had an oily film on top and the sides and base of the tank feel oily. Have we missed a stage out somewhere? Can I rub down the affected areas and start again with them? The photo below is typical but I couldn’t add anymore. Thanks stuart
