  1. Got excited 3 boat movements it an hour. ( its dock turnround).
  2. Heaving on the Erewash. Heaving every gate and paddle coz no other boats around. Delights of basin tonight. KF rat , Mc crap and hoons with silly exhausts. The people on the way up and the scenery ( in places) excellent.
  3. Gas axe and angle grinders are available from a number of local hire shops.
  4. With care and duplication of terminals and batteries its not a hard job. Basically turn everything off mark all positives , and remove the connections. Remove batts and replace, as Haynes used to say re assembly is the reverse of the above process. Take photos of connections and terminals first for reference. As for the solar no idea. Do my own stuff like that.
  5. If you are on the leicester summit its only a day by boat to braunston midland chandlers where you can pick up new batteries canalside. Much easier than taking them by car. unfortunately the local competition have now ceased trading.
  6. No. It’s machinery. Same as a car . That’s why classic cars have become an investment.
  7. You cant section people for being strange eccentric different or a pain to everyone else. His view of the world is highly entitled not mentally unwell. By suggesting he needs forced detention under the act you are doing a great dis service to the unfortunate few, who have to loose their freedom and liberty to have care forced on them. Anti social associal possibly different defo, but thats allowed. Its the courts job to deal with damage to society like that.
  8. Plan intent action Knows right from wrong hence threats to do wrong to get his way. Thats entitlement. Burns his own boat that becomes choice not MI. Mlud.
  9. We have a 240/12 calorifier. As we have no mains ring we therefore have a 12 v calorifier. It is however slow, and makes the alternator sing happy little songs. I would not recommend unless you boat a lot. It is a notional 360 w element so canes the batteries . Needless to say the calorifier is also small. Cold to hot tank engine running normal canal speeds about 4 hours. The side benefit is the alternator becomes a 360 w heater. Not so good.
  10. We have a ships log . Where how many hours run, what we did , oil changes repairs and bits and bobs. Dockings part numbers etc. who we crashed into who we passed and boated through locks with. These logs cover 3 boats and go back to 1983.! Every so often on a long evening we go back and read bits

  12. Its her turn to cook. We are in the middle of woop woop, a well known place in rural australia. Im concerned. Nearest kettle I currently own is 13000 miles away near Braunstone.
  13. Ah the week of the kettle. As of yesterday we were rich in kettles blessed with them. We had a 240 v one for when the van had mains power and a gas top one for freecamping. Today suddenly we are kettless. A pop a bang and Mrs S hurled the leccy one in the camp site skip. 2 hrs later a plop and a clink and the spout fell off the other one. Its 300kms to the nearest big W so kettless we travel. Fortunately back in uk on boat this month many kettles to kill.
  14. In principle and unfavourable. For personal reasons I cannot use Knox Johnson.
  15. We have researched this issue and come up with no solution. Our boat is 80 years young, and we know that we will shortly have to make the choice between going back to being Australian residents, and keeping the boat, but loosing our Aus residence. So our canal boat ownership started in 1981 will end. Sad and un necessary.

  17. In first That looks lthe first wendover festival. Sure i can see creeping jenny before it became brentford and Roger Wakeham’s Ash in the piccy. we have the plaque for the rally on the boat but cant check as its 13000 miles away
  18. Think it was there on our last trip in october. But then they all look the same. Normally they upset the lister. It seems to rev up and blow smoke in displeasure, on its own accord when they are spotted.

  20. When they used our boat for a film they hired it for 3 days. Total time in the film about 30 secs and about 20 secs on the credits. But as they say working with animals never good. Putting sheep on straw bales in an open hold caused many retakes.
  21. Ive never found owatrol has any rust resistant properties . Tried it in red oxide and even with wirebrushing it re rusted in a year. I used fertan 4 years ago on 80 year old steel outside and primed and top coated it with no problems to date. if you dont mind mind altering effects waxoil on top of hull sides primer seems to assist.
  22. Willow wren is our nearest winding hole. We turn carefully to avoid the concrete walls. Shallow on towpath side . Usually get a smile and a wave.
  23. Most memorable one on river thames hurtling along with another boat. The plan was the sober one on our boat to jump off at the bridge for a car shuffle. Realised keys for the ( company car) were with the owner on the other boat. Quick 10 /4 on the CB radio and the keys were found. It was at this point that the effects of lunchtime drinking took control and an attempt was made to exchange the keys by air despatch between the boats. Somewhere between henley and marlow are the keys for a charcoal grey peugeot 1.9 gti.
