  1. I agree with your statement inasmuch as a large bank is no substitute for the size of alternator. However, the size of the bank is just as relevent as the size of the alternator, because having, say, a 175A alt feeding a 300Ah habit through a single battery is wholly impractical too.
  2. Trojans quote 1500 cycles to 60% of capacity (i.e. 40% discharge) and about 1100 cycles to 50% of capacity. (Numax quote 500 cycles on their 110Ah marine batteries)

  4. I'll second what Paul C has written, and add that to run a washing machine whilst not on shore-power, I suggest you also invest in a generator, (stand alone), or a Dometic Travel Power (240v producing alternator kit). We have a 3.5Kw version Travelpower, (and it's spot-on for our needs)

  6. When I read your other post (a couple of minutes ago) I thought that a 35a alternator would struggle charging six batteries! I think it would help others give proper advice if you would tell us what engine you have - and, if at all possible, with a photo or two as well.
  7. If you are based in Singapore, (as you have entered as your location in your profile) would the components you require not be cheaper to buy locally?
  8. Meh1957, I suspect that walking aways is the right thing to do. There are too many elements of your experience that make me feel uncomfortable. Please keep looking - as MtB has already mentioned - there are many, many Liverpool boats out there, (as well as many other makes) - just take time, don't rush, you will find a boat that is at least as good, if not better. And, unless you're an experienced boater, please get a survey PRIOR to purchase/comittment to purchase. Feel free to ask on the forum for recommendations of a surveyor (near to where the boat you'll be looking at is). There'll be folks on here whom will doubtless be pleased to help and advise.
  9. I wouldn't use white spirit.... that can leave a bloom on some paints I believe. I'd call Rylard's tomorrow, and ask them.

  11. You're quite right (of course) And I do use sound signals - - though it's (not?) surprising how many boaters apparently don't know what they mean.
  12. maddietaylor There's quite a bit of advice for you on the previous posts, but if you could answer some of the questions, I'm sure that the advice will be qualified further.
  13. Answering your question - although indirectly: Don't buy 110Ah batteries from the chandlery, or from ebay Buy 4 224Ah 6v Trojan Batteries. (Will cost you about £405 from Battery Megastore after their 5% discount coupon (Google) Substantially better quality. With regard to the Salesman's patter - - there is a grain of truth in it - but only a grain - new batteries will sit on a shelf for many months without harm at all - and many sellers (I understand) don't fill them with acid solution until they are ordered - which renders their shelf life (pre-fill) as many years
  14. I've not had the (dubious) pleasure of paintin the interior of a water tank. However, I suspect that the vactan will not adhere to bituminous coatings - - I'd clean the whole lot off with a flap disc (or two) - and then apply your chosen coatings. (Can one use Vactan inside a tank, or should one use a simpler treatment such as phosphoric acid? (which is safe for consumption in dilute quantities))
  15. I suggest you're 'embellishing the truth' (!) Tesco do not sell donuts. - - They ONLY sell doughnuts!
  16. If you upload the picture on to a photo host like Photobucket - you can then copy it from there and post it on here (using the 'picture icon' on the post header above)

  19. steve_gts, If your double skinned chimney is to prevent tar/gunge escaping down the roof/cabinside, you have to make sure that the inner liner of the chimney fits snugly inside the top of your flue. It is essential that it does this. If it doesn't sit inside your flue, or is loose, then I suggest you alter it so that it does. (If you also insulate the space between your chimney outer skin, and the liner, that will also improve performance and updraught.)
  20. Just be aware that you need to have made 5 posts in order to use the private messageing (pm's) system on the forum. So , for example, just respond just once more on this thread to get up to your '5'!
