  1. Aye - and I understand that one of their stoves isn't rubbish - - although nobody's yet sure which one that is!

I'm surprised that a couple of our more food aware members haven't (yet) realised that those carefully constructed poles are purely for holding supplies of 'doughnuts'* whilst the locks are being operated. The pole is hooked on to the beam once the supply of food is loaded, and each delicacy is then removed individually for mastication. *I refuse to use the American spelling!
  3. Ultra High temperature sealant - up to 1300C This is the type of sealant I use for the stove/flue joint - I've found that the 300C silicone sealants are really not up to the job.

  5. Only the two moorings (in the old dry docks) between The Hilton Hotel and the Fazenda restaurant have power. Mooring's £6 per night incl electricity. Alternatively you could use the vm's at Clarence Dock

Well I, for one, always make sure that I cover the panel(s) prior to disconnecting them - for two reasons: 1// I do not fully understand all the hidden implications of electrickery 2// I am equipped with a pacemaker, and I rely upon the millivolts it works with, I'd rather not discover what affect 50v may have upon it.

  13. Relieved to learn that all is settled. It's good to learn that the boatyard's been so helpful and professional, you obviously handled the situation well, Chris, and kept a constructive dialogue going with them too. That's a good outcome that many can learn by.
  14. We haven't needed any heating yet. (Though t'bote is well insulated) Thermometer (saloon) reads 18C at the moment Though over the last few days have noticed a few boats have passed us with their stoves on
  15. We use a 3.5Kw Travelpower through a Victron 12/3000/120 to drive our washing machine/dryer/vacuum The battery bank is 900Ah (8 x Trojan T105's) Solar is 960w through an Outback 80 Flexmax. Solar provides all the (non-washing machine) power we need through the summer months (Fridge, TV, freezer,lights, laptops etc etc) we overwinter with shorepower (mostly) It all works well for us

  17. Aye - that was the point I was making, (badly I guess), the true cost of having fresh lime and ice available for the early evening Bombay Sapphire is somewhat higher than first thought!
  18. We have a 240v fridge, and a 240v freezer, and our (new) 12v 900Ah battery bank will drop about 5 - 6% overnight - - which ties in with Nick's figures.
  19. Then your research is a great start. If you plan your boat with high power electrical items, (e.g. - washing machine, freezer, refrigerator) - then you'll need considerable power production, storage and handling systems (generation/batteries/inverter) - It can certainly be done, of course, but it costs. As you scope together the plan for your boat, list the components that you must have (including lights, water pump, bilge pump) and then items that you would prefer to have (e.g. radio, TV, phone charger etc) and then items you would like to have, (maybe) ('fridge, etc). work out what the probable power consumption will be for those things per week, and then start to consider the different options there are for supplying gthe power. It'll give quite an insight into how you need to plan your boat.
