  1. Anybody in this forum know the owner of the black springer narrowboat that was loosely tied/ abandoned right under Enslow Bridge no: 216 on Wednesday last. Yet another example of the "could'nt give a F" for anybody else on the waterway ! Just one example of the sad practice of mooring near a road access on blind bends, below and above locks which gets worse the closer you get to Oxford.
  2. Can anyone confirm current opening and last entry times for Napton and Claydon lock flights ! Thanks in advance.
  3. Hello Roger For those of us still floating on the drought stricken GU south inc Aylesbury your posting is nothing more than "just showing off" its not big and its not clever ! By the way, hope "Humber" has proper toilet arrangements like what we have ! Take care of yourself. Mike.
  4. Those of you who know the Aylesbury Arm and for those who will hopefully visit sometime in the future the following proposal will interest/alarm you! Arla Foods are planning to build, what is reputed to be, the largest milk processing plant in the World near Aylesbury. This 110 acre Industrial complex would be covered with structures including 30 metre high Silos all bordering the Aylesbury Arm from Buckland bridge above lock 12 to College Road at Lock 13. The moorings above Lock 12 are one of the few places to stop to enjoy great views towards the Chiltern hills. Why scar this peaceful agricultural land and the rural aspect of the canal when surely there must be many brown field sites more suitable. This complex added to the inevitable expansion of Aylesbury above Lock 14 will endanger/destroy the unique rural nature of the last 4 canal miles into Aylesbury. Arla are undertaking a consultation excercise at this time and have scheduled the following public consultations :- Wednesday 8th Dec 6pm-8-30pm at Weston Turville Village Hall and Thursday 9th Dec 4pm- 7-30pm at Anthony Hall, London Road, Aston Clinton. A website www.arlafoods.co.uk/aylesbury should be live from 3rd December. Best Wishes & keep warm everybody.
  5. Years ago I was told that some working boatmen would refer to "falling in" as "taking a look". I also have "taken a look" twice. Once whilst trying to impress a bunch of american tourists on the Claydon flight, Oxford canal and secondly in a remote Nene lock on a wet, cold & windy day with no audience. Keep dry !! Mike.
  6. Hello Folks, Anybody know where I can find a shower cubicle with a lower frame height. All I have found so far are 1850 mm height or more. I plan to use a low shower tray which also is as low as it can be, my working height is limited. Any info, contacts much appreciated !
