  1. Do not forget it is Canal Cavalcade this weekend too, plenty of boats on the move in the London area, and chaos around Little Venice.
  2. The Romping Donkey at Hassell Green has been bought by a small brewery and is being refurbished now, due to open before to long. So use it when you next go through.
  3. Are you sure that their is no air in the skin tank?, have you bled it.
  4. And not before time, that is no more mooring in flights.
  5. Well said that man, I will buy you a drink next time I see you.
  6. I would love to see the vintage Nanni diesel, (living in Hope dying in Castleton).
  7. Bit late setting of from Worsley dry dock (2015), went over the "Tank" at 2200 after picking up a carpet on the prop. Tied up at Castlefield after winding at 2245 ready to go down Pomona at 0800 Saturday. BWB turned up right on time and we tied up at the end of Number 9 dock, between the new BBC HQ and the Lowery Centre. We decided to have a day of so I used a day tram ticket to go to Bury, for three reasons, 1 to find a bit of the Mc'r Bolton & Bury Canal, go for a train ride on Class 50 Vailiant hauled excursion at the railway centre, and thirdly to Bury Market for bag of Black puddings, you should be able to get them on the NHS. Passage down Mode Wheel was for 0800 today, all that water 4 locks in all you could have filled all of the Tring summit from bone dry twice over, did not see another boat on the move all day till we got to Weston Marsh Lock at the start of the river Weaver, 30 & 8's rowing boats arriving above the lock to start a race back to the Runcorn's rowing club HQ. It can only be called chaos, but the 4LK put a turn of speed on just over 7 mph and we won the race to the line. The weather had now turned dry but a gale blowing at the junction, but after a couple of miles we were in sheltered water, the sun came out and we tied up below Dutton Lock, ready to book a passage tomorrow.
  8. We aim to leave Worsley about 4pm, if you phone me on 07956656063 I can let you know nearer the time.
  9. Going boating tomorrow, starting at Worsley dry dock on the Bridgewater, then into Manchester, down onto the Ship Canal to Weston Marsh Lock then up the Weaver to Northwich with L&L short boat "Humber" with Gardner 4 LK, weather set for rain and worse but I don't care!. Further trips planed for Liverpool, Lancaster and Leeds, then to Lincoln. After that down the coast to the Thames and up the GU.
  10. The aluminium tag on the top of the neck gives the empty weight of the bottle, weigh the bottle and subtract.
  11. It is moored in Kingsland Basin on the Regent's Canal.
  12. That looks more like a" Frisbie" than a splash washer.
  13. If you want to stop water coming up the rudder tube, fit a splash washer on the rudder stock, a disc ( slightly bigger than tube diameter) made of conveyor belting. This slides up and down with the water pressure and closes of the hole. It is best fitted when out of water and slid on, but can be fitted if you have a thick enough piece of material, slit from outer edge to centre hole, twist and slip on. I have seen ones made from wood and screwed together. It also helps when you drop the boat on the cill ( it is a bit less to bend the skeg up).
  14. My definition of a "latter day boater" is someone who has not had a boat licenced by the British Transport Commission, my first one was in 1960 it was for "Kenelm" it cost me £12.00 I got a 50% reduction for working for British Railways. Also someone who cannot maintain their own boat.
  15. No problem, don,t forget I had a 2cyl. version with Willow Wren.

    Tyco

When is Tyco going to come out and break a bit of ice then?
  17. Fantastic pictures Mike, takes me back to boating in the ice in 1962 there.
  18. I have known Sue for 40 years plus, she used to work for Peter Froud (Canal Voyagers, Inland Waterway Holidays) as I did in 1962, she is committed to canals as I am, even after the influx of latter day boaters!. she and her sister and brother in law have probley done more boating than all of us put together. She got my vote.
  19. We turned Ara round about 5 years ago, it was no problem about 200yards above the lock, it ought to be easier now as the wooden telegraph style bank protection on the offside has all drifted away now. anyone who wants the winding holes identifying please phone me on 07956656063 and I will talk them through the exact location.
  20. The pipe in the towpath is at Winkwell, also I have turned a full length butty above Broadwater Lock in Berkhamsted.
  21. Thanks for that, nice to meet your dogs as well, very well behaved they were to.
  22. You are not looking in the right place, there is a pipe sticking out in the towpath side where you turn.
  23. I saw a new 4wheel drive jeep thing pass through Hemel Hempstead this afternoon with the new logo and CART sign writing all over it, the vehicle was all white with black signage.
  24. The Wensleydale Heifer owners lived in Berkhamsted, the wife came from Yorkshire!
  25. If I was you I would sell the boat and by a tent.
