  1. Thank you, they must be M12, I was expecting BSC thread for some reason and me an engineer (just as well I only built plane engines).
  2. Having noticed my builder never fitted the nuts on my mushroom vents can anyone tell me the thread size and where to get some. Thanks Nick
  3. on the subject of mesh faced ply, in my experience WISA boards seem to last longest, have just got some buffalo board so giving that a try, they say its as good, have used cheaper chinese face ply (didnt know it was) and that didnt last very long at all.
  4. if you are running the fridge on maximum, try it on number 2 for a night, and turn of any switches which say super cool. This should help to reduce the power consumption.
  5. Dont think you should put a persons name and number and mention that he works cheaply for cash.
  6. Check the cupboards for false floors, you wont get a paving slab in there, but grit blast grit can be re-bagged and is heavy. Also front step, by the side of the water pump there may be space( make sure you fix it secure) Nick
  7. We now have the answer to why canal/ riverside business are more expensive for your red diesel, its the law.
  8. In defence of the marinas. Anyone can go and buy 1000 ltrs of red diesel from a bulk supplier, this weeks price 42ppl plus 5% vat. 44ppl They will not ask you what your using it for and know nothing of 60/40 split for the boat industry. The people buying red on the way home for 60ppl will not mention or be asked anything about 60/40 split or boat use, but their supplier has marked it up about 35%. Now marinas buy at the same price but are registered with HMC for marine use and have to account for every litre. Their selling price is now plus 44ppl for propulsion making it cost 88ppl if they mark it up 35% it becomes £1.19 pl with domestic being 60ppl. So Uxbridge boat centre are making a smaller %. Please dont hold me to my figures being right or wrong or a few % out. Me, I run a boat yard and hire fleet, and I buy and use red diesel, but we have no pump so don't sell any. From my understanding at the end of the year the tax office ( HMC) will ask me, along with marinas, hire firms, boat yards who buy in red diesel for our 44ppl on 60% of my purchase of red diesel unless we can prove otherwise. Now to the pub.
  9. Hi jac, where can you get these and the rough guide to cost. Thanks Nick
  10. Just a quick one on crane hire, our local company will do a cheaper cash deal, its normally later in the day when the crane is returning from a proper job, without the office or bosses knowing. Two men and a 50 ton crane paid cash, What boat?
  11. How very upsetting this must be and as time goes on they may have to resign themselves to claming from their insurance. As with all insurance companies they will try to find away out of paying, so make sure you have all the information they will require. Its well documented on here it was on hire so make sure you have details of your business licence, landlords certificate (if gas on board) RCD or boat safety certificate for the insurance company , oh and I hope that the insurance covered hiring.
  12. Just to let people know the Monmouth & Brecon's final section (the breach site) was watered on Thursday and is now fully open.
  13. Some food for thought. You lend your friends your boat, after a week they return the boat to your moorings, lock up and drop the keys back, saying we have replaced the empty gas bottle, had a pump out because it was full and topped it up with diesel. When you next visit the boat you find a deep scratch along the full length of the side, a broken pole, one windless missing and various cups and plates broke. Your not happy. Then you go to use the toilet and the pans still full of water, strip down the toilet to find a wet wipe around the macerator. What do you say to your friends?
  14. As this is a long topic and I am a slow reader, this may have already been covered, but here goes. My shore power only connects to my battery charger, charger to batteries, batteries to inverter (own cables) to 240 sockets via trip fuse. Also from batteries to 12 volt fuse panal and buzz bar (own cables). The battery negatives are common and are connected to the engine. My question is, is this acceptable or should there be anything else? thanks Nick
  15. Yes i am buying a boat, why should I be heading to their yard?
