  1. Thanks for all the replies Bottle, the seals direct site looks very useful, looked at the 'window rubbers and hatchseals' page and very similar profile u-section seals and window rubbers - great stuff! ... so I'll measure up my things and get what's nearsest in size and crossfingers
  2. Mmm, my windows of my 1978 hancock and lane nb have been leaking for a while, so what with the nice weather we're having decided to take them out, clean up the metalwork on the boat and around the windows and put them back in with new silicone sealant, but noticed while cleaning them out that some of the original rubber around the windows has hardened and broken off in places ... oh, these are large oblong windows with slanting ends where one half slides open ... this might be letting in the water (this is on the fixed window half) and on the sliding half, there are some cloth type channels that the glass slides in that could be better. So, question is can these parts be found, brought new, replaced and where would I go to find out, boat yard, boat window specialist or would a local glazer have these sort of things? Or, is it a case of making the best of what I've got and seal/fill up the gaps around the glass with silicone and hope for the best? Any thoughts or advice thanks, Gav
  3. Erm, re-fitting my boat and about to connect up the gas lines to my boiler and cooker, I wondered if there is an inline indicator as to how much gas is left in the bottle, my gas line goes across a panel and up to the boiler and would be an ideal place for one - or is it, as it's quite a way from the bottle or doesn't it matter? - so anyone know of something you can put in-line (micro-bore pipe) that will indicate full or empty, or anyone know what you would call one of these to do a search on the net? Cheerrrrrs!
  4. Yamanx, You mentioned advancing the timing of the pump 'against rotation' ... which way would that be if your on the injection pump side, clockwise or anti-clockwise? Also, don't forget to clean out those heater plug holes with a drill bit (can't remember the size? 11/64 or something like that?) I had a lot of starting problems and did this, got loads of carbon deposits out and now starts first time... if they're clogged up your heater plugs end up heating up the carbon around them and not the fuel.
  5. Ah ha, this was something I was kind of thinking-ish of myself over the weekend and I was going to post a question but maybe somebody could answer it here? I've got a laptop I want to run - dvd player, digital tv tuner thingy, etc - and was wondering what inverter to get..... but, the laptop runs (so it says on the transfomer) on 19vDC, so I plug it into mains 240vAC which is then converted to 19v dc, so it seems a long way around things to go from 12vDC to inverter 240vAC back to 19vDC? So anyone know or recommend where I can get a 12vDC adapter for the laptop, last time I looked there wasn't one available for mine from the manufacturer, and what's miliamps(mA) - spelling? - how does this affect things? Noticed that the transformer for my laptop says something like: Input 110-240vAC1400mA Output 19vDC3950mA? is this the same as 1.4 amps and 3.9 amps, if so will I need a 12v adapter rated at 4 amps? got a headache now thinking about all these numbers! Thanks?
  6. Hi Dor, not sure if there is a 2-way valve on the circuit, I'll have a look at weekend and get the torch out - pipes are deep in cupboards and hidden. Presume that this heats water and the water for the rads, don't know as it doesn't say anywhere, but my friend told me that it all worked fine before moving it - there is a calorifier which wouldn't have been heating the hot water as it was moving the next day - and it all worked fine on the trip down for about a week? Martin, possible that something has been twiddled with, but what? There's a single control labelled ignition, off and 1 - 7, and the spark ignitor thingy, the only unknown thing is the pull switch which doesn't seem to make any noticable difference? I did try a search for this boiler on the net but came up with nothing really. Like you say, could be a good idea to contact the previous owners, it was purchased through a boatyard so I'll see if I can get a contact number? Thanks.
  7. Friend of mine has got a boat recently and we're a bit confused about the operation of the Aldi boiler (Type 2920 ?) worked fine when we picked up the boat but now we don't get any hot water, the heating works ok, but no hot water?? Found instructions on the inside of the cover plate but this only tells you how to light it, and there's a pull down switch just to the right of the control panel - what does this do??, there's no label or anything about it in the instructions? And... same sort of thing with the fridge, worked fine on the gas when we first got it but now it goes out or does not get very cold? Any thoughts? Oh, and it's not that we've run out of gas, had 2 full bottles on board. Thanks....
  8. Avoid the Leighton Buzzard area! Just been on a trip to help a friend bring a boat back from oop north and we moored near a tescos in L'Buzzard and woke up to find our generator nicked, spoke to a boat yard mechanic a bit further down to find we're not the only one's to have this happen, he told me about somebody who was using theirs when it stopped, so went to find some fuel got outside to find the ropes cut and two blokes running off with the genny! B*~#X*ds! Tunnels, we went through the braunston and blissworth tunnels... can you really get 2 boats through these? Luckily nothing came in the other direction but these really do look narrow?
  9. What's the best aerial for tv reception? seen those saucer type things which look quite neat, but do they work ok? or... is there a system that can be used for the radio and tv from one thing? I would like to be able to disconnect the aerial when not in use so some sort of neat quick release thing would be good? Thanks...
