  1. Water injection I know about as I run it on one of my cars it's a 1939 Austin 8hp with a 1275cc Turbo Marina engine fitted with a Mini Metro Turbo Charger & at 10PSI I inject water/Alcohol at 50/50 this (along with the inter-cooler) cools the charge all the way to 15PSI & makes over 100BHP so I know that works..... But next step is a dry cell HHO unit in the boot to smooth out the low end running as the Jam jar makes my 175,000 mile truck motor feel like a new engine & cleans up the exhaust gasses...... well this is what I thought about running cars on chip fat a few years back now I can make 300ltrs of bio-diesel a day & run my boat on 35p a ltr fuel! Browns gas has been about for many many years & has been used in welding for some time & 20-50 per cent MPG gains are possible (I'm told) No one is saying 100 per cent efficiency is going on, just that the internal combustion engine is so in-efficient that improvements can be made.... I was as gob smacked as most of you would be when I lit a match to the bubbles & they went POP! It cost me £8.00 all in all to build my Jam Jar reactor (a lot less then my Bio-Diesel reactor) & IT WORKS..... well BMW & Mazda & other smaller car companies have made cars the use a fuel cell to run the motor & all you put in them is H2O.... Now that's an idea... all I need is a tube &.....................................................;O(
  2. ok so at 12volts it takes 3amps to make the gas..... not a massive current drain on my alternator I would say..... Now 1 thing I will say that I only make a small amount of HHO so on tick over to about 50mph you can tell it runs better above this nothing & I would say this is due to me not making enough gas.... But I can run on 1 of the 2 chokes & in 5th gear it pulls clean & fast from 20mph all the way.............. this is what I have found from my jam jar kit.... I did connect the jam jar to my battery charger & like I say 12v = 3amps 24v = 9amps but made a lot more gas....
  3. OK so I know what I'm gona get but please just try to keep an open mind.... Has anyone here tried HHO or Browns Gas on a Narrow boat engine or Heating system???? What the *^$$*(( is browns gas I hear some say! Well you can google it but it is 2 parts Hydrogen & 1 part Oxygen & you can make it with ease from cheap parts about the house... I have a 1935 Fordson truck with a 2ltr petrol engine from a Mazda pick up & I made a Hydrogen reactor from 2 Stainless Steel egg flippers a jam jar & some hose.... you bolt the 2 SS plates together with plastic number plate bolts using a nut so they don't touch & bend the tops & drill a hole... this then bolts to the plastic lid with 2 SS bolts & a 12volt + & - (the + makes oxygen & the - makes twice as much Hydrogen = H2O) A hose comes from the centre of the lid & goes into a plastic bottle to the bottom the bottle is 3/4 full of water... another hose comes from the upper part of the bottle in the air gap above the water... this is known as a bubbler & is a safety valve in case of blow back.... the 12v comes from a wire that is live when the engine is running... the main jar is filled with water & 1/2 a spoon full of backing soda! as soon as I start my truck the power between the plates start to fizz & bubble & the gas starts to fizz to the top of the jar into the hose & into the bubbler & from the bubbler via tube to the air intake.... when you drive the intake sucks the gas in & you get more MPG & my truck engine that has well over 175,000 miles runs smoother & has a tick over of about 200 to 350rpms! now before you call me all kinds of stupid please have a look on youtube under HHO & see what others have said & done..... so you know the problems we all have with Mikunispacher's what if you used HHO gas in one???? in cars it can get you through a failed MOT if your emissions are too high & trust me my old engine that used to stink now has a nice clean smell about it... Now I saw this stuff on youtube & thought BullS**T but made one to see if it worked & it does! No honest it does..... So I now await your abuse...... ) The Above may help.....
  4. I had one & it ran for 30 minutes then stopped working (electrics not motor) I have an old Honda 1kw gen' that I've used for the last 20 years on the building & it always starts & still runs fine..... so I sent the cheap "made in china copy" back & spent the money on a Honda E1000! it starts & runs when you need it & is quite unlike the Kipper one I had... I used to sell Honda copy bikes made in China by Suzuki & they were good value for money but I could buy bikes for 75% less & I had one as a demo & they were utter rubbish & I would go so far as to say a DANGER to the buyer....... if you ask me buy a Honda it's a quality item with back up & parts availability.....
  5. They carry a fungus that does kill the native ones..... & if you use traps in other waters you MUST disinfect & clean them FIRST..... I spoke to the environment agency & was told that the signal was going to be the new food that was going to make farmers of them rich! it was sold as Scampi in pubs etc in the 1970's but was not the gold mine it had been hoped for & ended up in the rivers as did the Mink.... even Rabbits are not a native UK animal & they also taste too as do Zander or as they are called in the USA Walleye Walleye are one of the best eating fish (next to Perch) so if you have them in a river/canal near you catch them & eat them you'll love em.... no wipe them out as they allowed the introduction in the first place...... The main reason is to educate people as to the fungus they carry that kills the native smaller one & you have have to fill in a sheet saying how many you take, what weight & what other things you trap so they can see if it harms otters, voles, mink or fish.... it's a simple form & you get net tags so if the EV find your traps they will let them stay in the water & that's cheaper then buying new traps
  6. OHHHH come on this one has to work: it has injectors & semi floating fully oscillating jiggling pins & everything! it must work he explains it so well also & has the look of a guy I could trust.... I have mine on order & it should be with me a week or two..... don't you love the way the crank pops the shafts up & hits the hand made injectors & this is what makes the power...............................
  7. ya I kinda know that (being an electrician) but what if strapping a load of them strong magnets to a bike wheel does in fact work? I would love to try it but I seem to have a life & just don't have the time to play about with magnets & tape..... what bridge is it? can I moor my 57ft boat under it & live aboard? how much? does it have free green never ending power with it? so many questions so little time.....
  8. yes but in this case 12v is used to make around 60v, that's 12volts in & almost 50 volts over generation out???? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZU10XJn67ao&NR=1 & if you look on you tube you will see many machines that seem to run with just magnets stuck in plastic! like the bike wheel video he says it uses some power but makes many times what it uses....... true or false you try it & tell me?
  9. as anyone seen: or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4qjZocje0c...PL&index=23 or or or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q5ahV_SN-M...feature=related OK SO LET THE FUN START! do we unbolt that out dated diesel engine & fit a bunch of magnets in the engine bay or should I stay off the drugs?
  10. I spent the weekend taking my boat from the K&A to Henley on Thames to the 80's festival & my twin alt' charging system works real well! in fact I now have a Honda E1000 generator for sale as I can see no need for it in the future as the boat system works so well.... all lighting & power on the boat comes from the 3kw inverter & I have 12 GU10 spot lights (& 1 bathroom halogen & strip light with shaver point) that I have now fitted LED lamps to, this with the TV running was no problem for the batteries & within a short trip down the river the charging system recharged things to almost full & by the time I got back to my mooring I had full power again...... my last boat only had 1 alt' fitted & it would take more then twice the time to recharge half the battery bank I now have so I would say if you are fitting out a boat or you want a better system then look at the link I posted or find something like it to use you won't be disappointed..... as far as I can tell it does what it says on the tin! I run the engine & get hot water & lots of power & as I use my own Bio-Diesel it costs less then it would to run a generator & you don't have to deal with PETROL/LPG on board......
  11. like the post below your reply says it DOES SAY you can connect 2 alt's to this I know as my boat has this set up with 2 alt's fitted....... & you could save £200.00 but the cost of replacing my 6 110ah batteries if I got it wrong would put me off a DIY fitting even if the fact that in any event of a fire my insurance would not pay up! I would hate to save £200.00 & end up £40k out of pocket................. the unit is quite small & the 2 alt' cables (about 25mm) connect into it & a very large (75mm or so) cable runs a few feet to my bank of 6 110ah batteries & it charges them real quick as it has 2 80amp inputs & a 160amp charging output..... it does what you want it to do & is made for the job comes with warranty & tech' help from experts & if your boat does catch fire & it's due to the product you can take them to court...... sorry your trying to re-invent the round thing that cars roll on out of rocks here ;O)
  12. hope this helps! http://www.sterling-power.com/products-galvanic-why.htm seems to give good info & you can decide what you think is best for you.... My last boat was in a Marina (Thames & Kennet) & I found after a year I had some loss of steel amid ships & I had noted Earth wires on the pontoons not being connected! this Plus being next to a lot of live aboard self build boats I think was not good for my boat.... I had a GI fitted to my boat & can only think that things may have been worse if I had not had one fitted...... I would say prevention could be cheaper then repair & it should be an afternoons work to fit one so why not fit one?
  13. OK I did try to read all 25 pages about this but I must admit to feeling my life was too short...... the idea sounds like a sound one & I thought it must have been done before? then I looked on my new boat & as far as I can see my 2 80Amp alternators seem to go to my " Sterling AD12160AMp RS485" http://www.sterling-power.com/products-altbatt.htm & this bit of kit seems to use the charge from both alternators to charge what ever batteries need it most & will also use the 240v shore power to do the same! Is this right or am I just dreaming here? I would think most people that have twin alt' set ups mould like to use this idea but many may want an insurance "if my boat starts fire" legal type solution & maybe this is it??????? ps I have no shares in Sterling products must be others you can buy....
  14. I have a licence to set traps on the K&A canal & a day of setting 10 traps nets me about 2 dozen mini lobsters! some tips! 1. use traps that have a 60mm hole so you don't pull traps with dead Otters, Mink, Rats etc inside. 2. Pilchards are cheap oily & they love em, or you can use Lidl dog food as it's cheap. 3. Let your catch sit for a day or 2 in fresh water (in a bucket with the tap running) & they will poo out lots of rubbish. 4. Boil a pan with water & drop in 1/2 a dozen at a time, you only need to cook for 4 minutes. 5. Melt some butter & Garlic & a dash of Tabasco. 6. Claw meat is worth the effort use a small sharp knife to split them. 7. Traps can be had from e-bay I use the wire mesh ones as they sink well & stay put. 8. use some bambo canes & tie the line to the bottem so no one can see them or you will loose pots & tags. 9. use a boat hook to snag the line & or push the line into the mud so it is under the water. 10. watch for lines in places boats moor or you may end up trying to remove a squished pot that's been round some ones prop from you a** 11. Stuff em down with some dry white wine...... YUM they look like this: http://s844.photobucket.com/albums/ab9/nig...nt=DSC00017.jpg http://s844.photobucket.com/albums/ab9/nig...nt=DSC00016.jpg I even have one at home in my fish tank that I have been feeding on stuff to see what he likes & they do make cool pets! as soon as ANY meat, cheese in fact any food hits the water he's out of his hole under a rock & grabs it..... as soon as he is big enough I'll eat him (
  15. Hi Steve it's Nige the guy on the other side of the bank from you that just sold his wide beam & now has a NB... Sorry to go 1 bigger & all that but this one came from the front of my boat (used the dog as bait) http://s844.photobucket.com/albums/ab9/nig...nt=bigperch.jpg[/img] & what about this monster: http://s844.photobucket.com/albums/ab9/nig...nt=DSC00657.jpg[/img] The pike was in Henley! over 4ft long as it hang off the sides of my 4ft rubber boat & if you look in the other pictures you can see the size of it's head is almost as big as my big fat head! Pike & Perch were caught on lead heads with small rubber white wiggler tail worms (USA) you can use a lead head & real worm & this is a killer also even for Carp????? PS used to eat Perch in the USA all the time & they are the best fish you will ever eat (if you ask me)
  16. Just sold my 55X10ft WB & now have a 57X6.10"FT NB.... The WB had a semi V hull & sat in the water with no side to side movement at all (on the Thames) & was very stable. It's like driving a 25ton truck from the tail gate on an ice road! slow down for locks as the 25tons will take more stopping..... The only bad point I found was in strong flow the water would push the boat more then a flat bottom boat so I had to give it full power some times just to avoid hitting banks, boats, trees etc.... The air draft is more on most WB boats so you have to be good at knowing how long you are (no jokes please) as seeing the bow is not going to happen, I was going to fit a car backing up camera at one point so I could see the bow but got used to hitting things ) My NB is less stable & slids about more due to it's flat bottom but is a faction of the weight so is easy to handle, my wife has no problem steering her unlike the WB.... So I would say a NB is easy to handle even for kids but a WB needs more boat handling skills as you can loose control of any boat it's just the bigger ones will take more to get them back under control & the damage they can cause can be more due to the size & weight! On the Thames I had little problems with the WB but now I am moored on th K&A canal & a Big Fat Baot is a bugger to use so I've gone NB.. www.freewebs.com/leasdale some pictures of WB next to NB
  17. Hi I have just put a deposit on a LB boat that has a 35hp engine & I thought it was odd that it did not have a filter fitted... The boat I just sold had a 50hp Nanni & it had a plastic box with no element inside but it did have some pipes on the under side to suck air from below.... The problem with diesels is water in the intake will hydraulic the engine & that's the end of that motor! So an element is maybe not needed but a way of keeping water from being sucked into the motor would be a good idea as if some hire boat has left the paddles open on a lock above you on a flight of locks not only will the water get you wet coming over the top of the lock gate but if it gets under the engine cover you could need a new motor...... Or when washing down the rear deck you could get water running into the engine bay or even heavy rain could be a problem! But it seems that a shed load of engines are out & about filter-less & no one seems to have had problems yet (or have they) I think the welding bottles an old bean can & some rubber will be used in the workshop next week...............
  18. OK so what are the hand held VHF radio's that you can get from e-bay for £28.00 like? would this be OK to use as the range should not be an issue & my brother has a Licence to use VHF as a dive instructor/boat handler..... & does anyone know the the penalty for not having VHF? or am I just making to much out of this?
  19. what's it like finding mooring places in London? I spoze you need to be careful at night in some places can you tie up late & leave early without problems? I've been along some of the Regents canal & some locks are full of gongoozlers if the suns out....
  20. Yes I don't think flat bottom boats are the best when it comes to waves let alone swell & the low pointy bit would not be the best in any waves with only a glass panel door to stop any large amount of water that may come over the front. so it's a case of waiting for an incoming tide & give it some beans to get to the lock & safety before the tide turns & hope for some good weather.....
  21. that's what I was thinking! Would have been nice going past all the sights on the Thames but I know what it's like on the Thames when it's had some rain & the red boards are up & (stupidly) I have been out in a widebeam on it..... The flow down stream can take you & it's hard to get out some times, just full power & go for it! & yes I know your insurance won't cover any damage if the reds are up but I woke to find things had got worse over night & only had a mile or 2 to go & wanted "some fun" I did have some fun! as I came round a bend that had an island is the middle with a row of plastic boats tied up... I did miss them in the end but only just at full power & my wife went below & hid awaiting the sound of braking glass! you tend to do stupid things when you get a new boat & want to see what it can do right? oh that's just me then is it?
  22. OK that makes more sense.... many thanks
  23. many thanks guys! so quick & lots of help. OK I have some stuff to read up on it seems... is the run from Brentford better due to less tide? also it's says the Old river Lea is closed until after the 2012 running skipping thing is over?????? any more info can do nothing but help
  24. Ok I have sold my widebeam & have my eye on a narrow on the River Lea. My problem is my mooring is on the K&N near Reading & to get the boat to it I have to go on the Thames from Limehouse basin on up steam on the tidal part of the Thames. Now this must be done lots but I have never done it & would like to know of any problems I may come across? Can you make good headway on the out going tide or do you need to tie up & wait for the in coming? any help would be fantastic...
