There is a smaller one (38m) built in 1952 moored in Thuin (Belgium) which has been turned into a museum. The cabin is a symphony in polished dark wood. 2 bedrooms and saloon but no bathroom definitely historic.

I am thinking of upgrading to one of these (B535) on the assumption that 5g units are going to be out of my price range for some time? Just wondering what size the plug is for when a 12v converter is added I have seen 2.1mm and 2.5mm mentioned?

trouble is, after a while people get used to their own smell don't notice it and think it has gone away, visitors do though

As our fridges don't last long (2 Shorelines in 10 years) I have bought one of these (smaller version) to act as back up. Now its a chinese compressor (but then Danfoss are made in China now) and Vevor don't get good reviews for customer service but it arrived earlier than expected and more or less does what it says on the tin , the thermostat is not that accurate (but nor is Shoreline) and though you can use it as either a fridge or a freezer it struggles to get down to minus 18, the insulation is a bit thin but could probably be added to externally. Overall though good value as long as it lasts a few years. They (the rowing club) already operate a tidal system on the river at Broxbourne (which is really too narrow for rowing seriously with or without moored boats) so no not an argument that holds any water.

Or a 2 pack (epoxy) primer but that assumes the surface has been properly prepped. For the exterior cabin epoxy base coats but 2 pack polyurethene on top gives all the colours you want and is as tough as possible.

Most posters on here are talking about narrowboats, thick steel hulls protected by cheap blacking, I think you need to do more research starting with the previous owner (or surveyor if you had one) as to what has been done before and what needs doing now. Most French cruiser style boats will have been painted with good quality enamel very likely epoxy, if it is in good condition cleaning any damaged area and repaint with similar would be best rather than spoil it with loads of cheap blacking which will be hard to remove later. There are problems with zebra mussel in parts of France, do the locals use antifoul, which one you might think it sensible to copy them

There is a lot of interest in Central and southern France but the poor waterways of Northern France don't seem to have many supporters. Part of the problem is that although there are many boats in French marinas (most full up) they do not require a licence unless they move maybe because of this few are seen cruising. North France is really close to the UK just hour and a half on the ferry, (less in the tunnel if you don't like boats) and there is plenty of nice countryside and interesting towns such as Lille, Arras, Douai, Cambrai within a few days cruising. The Somme is not so far and further East the Meuse and Sambre are amazing. There are large waterways here but loss of the little side canals would be disaster, already numerous pretty canals have been lost. It seems to be a lottery which canals are saved often based on whether the local council will put up some money. So do come, it will probably cost less than theUK, we pay around 800 euros for 13m mooring and the licence is about 450.
