That’s an interesting looking box, whereabouts are you based?

These engines have resurfaced, will add them to the queue for rebuilding, they have suffered a bit from standing for 9 years or so since their removal

I have a push pull gear change operating the standard Kelvin gear change through a series of pulleys, wire rope and chains

Got any undersize big end shells for a Kelvin J2? Or a set of water pump crank linings?

As I scraped the skeg over the cill at grindley brook a month or so ago despite me saying to the vol the level was too low his reply was “oh you are deep aren’t you”....I wasn’t a happy bunny. I have reported to CRT.
I was steering my parents tug up Grindley Brook, the keeper asked how deep we were, I replied with 3’3”, when we hit the cill the reply was “oh you actually are that deep” it sounds like a bit of retraining is needed.

The tug has a Ford BSD 332, 3 cylinder tractor engine, The weed can be a bit of a pain, I had to run my Kelvin on all 4 cylinders to chop it up a bit.

I am sorry but this is simply not true.
When CHISWICH was previously advertised for sale on Apollo Duck website and Waterways World magazine (2015 - 2019) it was stated that the Lister JP2 was refurbished, as it does in the current advert, with no mention of a full rebuild. The Lister JP2 currently in CHISWICK was installed in 2002 - the one you remember is now allegedly in ARUNDEL
Is METEOR still unconverted ?
Meteor is still unconverted and will hopefully remain that way

it has the wrong carburettor and oil tank too.

The Erewash joins the Cromford end on below the lock at Langley Mill.

my experience with seaward is that you can drive up there with a pocket full of cash and still come away with nothing, I have some spares for the K and J but no castings unfortunately, I do have a box of bits to drop off with Phil Robins with a cylinder in it.
I have some new piston ring sets for the earlier pistons and .030 U/S Main bearings
How bad are your current cylinders?
I have welded some Kelvin cylinders for both the poppet valve engines and my F4 in my boat.

I have known a BMC to run away, it had about 8 litres of oil in the sump plus whatever it had burnt and expelled from the engine! unusually, there was no diesel in the oil in this engine.
I have seen a few air cooled listers of various types with lots of diesel in the oil.

surely if there are so many spring tides at the moment, why hasn't anyone turned right at sharpness and come back upstream and over the weir? not exactly trapped if the tides are high enough to overtop the weirs.

The exhaust manifold is from a lighthouse engine, there is something odd about the inlet manifold, extra holes in the top of it.

I had a tubeless tyre deflate rapidly on the front of my Orange, I now run an inner tube in the front and tubeless for the rear, with a puncture in an inner tube you at least have a bit of time to stop before it deflates completely, with a tubeless setup you are usually going OTB,

a short video of the engine running on two cylinders

The round flanged piece is a hub from a large fan, it just happens to be about the right size to fit the mounting. I have quite a few of them.
I am keeping a magneto as a spare but they are not the most reliable of things.
With this system I will be able to have multiple sparks for each firing stroke but still retain the manual ignition timing control
the whole system will have cost less than a magneto ht coil rewind!

Sorry for the long delay since the last update, today I started on the electronic ignition system to replace the magneto, this will use a trigger wheel and a sensor and bolts in place of the magneto. Just awaiting the the arrival of some bearings and can then assemble and fit to the engine.

Already seen that one, same problems though with salt water corrosion, I am looking at fabricating a block, just to see if it would work

Has the boat been overplated?
-
some of the diesels had no provision for mounting the gearchange on the gearbox, this looks like it is just the cover for one of those.

but that would not have been anything to worry about for the GUCCCo as london would not have been full of fat boats tied up for miles with people living on them as an alternative to housing, and any boats would have been tied up properly.
I believe the main reason for the slightly smaller blade is that they were always towing.

24 x 17 sounds about right looking at the ex national blade that was fitted to Banstead when we got her, the GU boats were all towing a butty which does affect the size of the blade slightly, they would also have not followed the modern practice of overpropping to make a nice sound for hours of running at low speeds. it would be interesting to see how the original blade works with a loaded pair, if you can find enough water!

Progress has been slow over the last couple of months, but the engine is roughly in position in the boat, next step is aligning it with the shaft then I will start on the fuel tanks and plumbing

I am interested, not sure when I'd be able to collect as work is getting in the eway for the next couple of weekends

I can’t imagine many people would want that dynamo, it is unusual in being chain driven from the flywheel end, I’m not sure there are that many Fowler marine engines around now, the list can’t be that long….
