  2. I'm sorry I must have had a 'power crazy' episode. Seriously though it was an oversight. There was nothing stopping you from pm'ing me for an explanation. Sometimes replying to memebers can be forgotten.

  4. Cleaned. Just for the record I inform original OP's if there thread has to be removed (not something I like to do to often). I don't always pm individual posters though if there post is particularly nasty.
  5. merged - ill clean the thread of dupes in a moment. (hope that is polite enough?)
  6. I welded a car up using a SIP 150 mig and a Aldi special petrol generator with a 4kva output. The mig has 6 settings worked ok at level 3/4 but never tried at full belt. The genset coughed and spluttered occasionally but seemed to cope well with car body thickness steel. Nice clean welds too. As for the thicker stuff - minimum of 4mm on a boat on average, I think a bigger output will be required - say 6kva?
  7. weird. Edited for a typo and lost the lot! I talk to my computer regularly - usually involving the unprintable
  8. Is it a vertical or horizontal split? A picture would be useful
  9. As a matter of interest what's the punishment for drink boating? I'm sure I read somewhere that you could lose your driving licence?
  10. Whilst it is obviously preferable to fire resistance coverings, I think that when you get to the point of PVC catching alight, the boat (and you) would be a goner anyway! Edit: isn't PVC reasonably fire resistant anyway?
  11. A bit of sweeping statement! I hope you have some evidence to back up your claim!
  12. Better still don't go to university. A university education is very poor value these days. Unless your subject absolutely requires a degree the vocational route is far better. Sorry to sound cynical but having finished a degree recently, if I knew what I know now I wouldn't have bothered.

  15. I think you could possibly get away with using plasterboard on a very large boat that perhaps involved the use of 'floating' stud walling insulated from steel structure, but on a narrow there is just too much expansion and contraction. The skim coat joints would break out in no time and 'worry' the screw fixings eventually. I your looking for an alternative to the popular veneered oak there are plenty of printed laminates available that are used in the caravan interior business.
  16. A randomly plucked article from elsewhere that is one perspective of many. I assume you have read it? I though it was pretty well balanced to be honest!
  17. 'Mountain bikes don't do any damage' They do according to this magazine: Backpacker magazine 'Mountain Bikes - the gnarly question of knobbly tires' January 1987 Google 'bike or footsteps do more damage' and a google books link should come up According to the owner of the company that build mongoose bikes, Bikes do more damage than walkers.

  19. This thread is starting to take on a slightly antagonistic tone. The cyclist/walker/boater towpath users debate will always be contentious one, but that does not mean we should cease to be civil with one another.
  20. Depends on the force of the impact I suppose. I'm thinking more along the lines of automotive GRP.
