  3. Not very helpful mike. I was under the impression the imperial/metric debate had been put to bed here: http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=85122&page=2
  4. It is perfectly acceptable to use metric.
  5. 3 or 4 rather have too many reports than none at all.
  6. A number of previous posts have been hidden pending review from the mod team.
  7. They also have a branch in Newport. I worked for TFM for a very short period. I didn't last long being a townie. Good range of hardware though.
  8. I was not suggesting that wash causes boat movement moreover excessive wash is in an indication of excess speed (well it does on our boat - give it the beans and the water becomes very choppy).
  9. For a boat that was supposedly speeding it wasn't producing much of a bow wave. More likely the moored boat was not secured properly.
  10. In agreement to the concerns raised by the OP, it's unfair to speculate on the behaviour of the gentleman in charge of the boat - put yourself in his position. CRT did a great job of successfully clearing the flight as quickly as possible to get traffic moving again which they did by 14:30. If you wish to continue the debate on insurance/liability/cover etc. please free to start a new thread; in the meantime this thread is being locked with the aim of preventing further speculation about the steerer. Please help us achieve that aim.
  11. So.... £2.65 for the coffee and £17.35 to enjoy the peaceful location, wonderful view and non existent queue? well, bit expensive for my pocket but knowing how unruly crowds can spoil an otherwise perfect (and likely expensive holiday) I can understand your logic.
  12. Not the first time I 've heard your analogy but your quite right. Having said that, without the petrol station shop you can't make a living out of selling fuel (so I have heard). Perhaps that is why most village petrol stations have long since closed down (along with the pub) Too little foot-fall.
  13. Quick rough and ready comparison of costa coffee with a pint of 4% beer: Pint of costa (560ml 'massimo') = £2.65 Pint of beer in my local = £2.80 Beer duty (4%) = 45p (55p or there about when vat is taken into account - yes you really do pay tax on tax!) 'Real' cost of a pint = £2.25 Its funny folk are very quick to criticise the cost of beer but rarely do people complain about the cost of coffee. If I've got my sums wrong feel free to correct.

  18. I seem to recall my sign writing associate refer to this technique as 'strike out'
  19. Depends on the 2 pack. I recently looked up the application specifications of one brand (can't remember the name) - and it said that roller application was fine. In some ways roller is preferable as the blacking has to be thinned for spray application requiring more coats to build up the same thickness. Best to check the specifications or phone up the makers. 2 pack is available to the general public
  20. assuming the panel is a basic square shape you could always fix an aluminium panel using self tapping screws. Looking at the picture again Mikes canavas dodger suggestion could look better than solid panels. Similar to this: http://www.svchapaai.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/P5160497.jpg What were you quoted for the welding?
