  1. I found a leaking water pump caused a slight list to my boat very quickly, tracing the problem took a while and bear in mind many marinas have been locked down with owners unable to visit boats for a while, marina staff keeping an eye on boats. Access to the marina near me has been restricted to residential boaters for some weeks, this restriction only being lifted last weekend......
  2. The water was from the restaurants washing up sink, did look like a rather thin soup, the 'roaches ran so fast they were difficult to catch and they dropped on to the banking counter making transactions tricky......
  3. Fair comment. and including those by MtB removal and investigation is the answer, having found this, perhaps include Mr K and ask his opinion...........tracking leaks on my boats and houses over the years have taken up lots of time over the years. The worst was Cockroaches and water from a Chinese restaurant above our office in Oxford.
  4. Interesting pictures, a couple of the exterior fitting would be helpful. Bee's comment about tools and skills is the quote of the week. L.
  5. Yo Mark, Looks good, shame original painting was so Skimpy!. No Boating for me - I broke my left Femur in early Feb. difficult repair as it was badly broken in 1966..........unlightly to be fully 'repaired' until mid July. Keep good. M.
  6. Hi, Not sure where you are on the system but I have a new cage available on the boat, the existing one did not need changing. I am unable to get over there for a couple of months though. I doubt your fire will need a new 'ring'. Cost of the cage about £70. I got my new one from Holland (manufacturers) via Karunda (google for UK address), the Kabola and Refleks cats are interchangeable (I think) - I can get someone to check measurements if you want - when access is permitted.

  8. I would take care filling up at Marinas, you really want to use somewhere which has a high turnover in fuel and adds a suitable additive (costs a few pence more per litre) Jules fuels are good on both counts.
  9. My Dad always blipped the throttle prior to turning off the igntion.....not sure why, he thought it 'primed' the cylinders prior to starting (1930's thinking). I always idle the engine I have as it has a turbo. The boat diesel just get the fuel shut lever pulled. Interesting about the Bristol engines - radial?, the other thing to remember before staring is to drain the bottom cylinder to avoid oil compression problems, my mate forgot this and caused some expensive problems on a Pembroke plane he had.
  10. It is an excellent channel, some of the short progs (Climpses) are interesting, featuring times gone by, caught one which featured the last night at the local cinema in Amersham in 1962..amazing.
  11. Yes, forgot that one, also overlooked Little Hampden House where Hammer Films were produced. When you check the films it's amazing how locations were chosen - Aldbury, near Tring has been amazingly popular over the years, even appearing as a setting for the 'Dirty Dozen'. Hope you are well. Thanks, have checked your website and found it very interesting. look forward to you setting the Forum another challenge.
  12. Hi, Thanks for your enquiry, I am sure that all the 'Forumites' would be pleased to see the screen captures, and they have provided a huge amount of helpful advice, your job in this instance is easy as all the exterior shots were of buildings within about a mile radius, including the exterior shots of the cottages. The tug 'White Heather' did appear in the film. Beaconsfield Studios is less than 15 miles away. I am always interested in location shots used in the area and combine this info with talks I give to inmates in retirement/care homes, bearing in mind the number of films studios north of London, (Ealing, Twickenham, Shepperton, Pinewood, Denham, Beaconsfield, Elstree and Borehamwood it is inevitable that many local scenes have been used over the years. They are still being used.... Midsummer Murders has filmed at The Lee for years and indeed used Bulbourne Yard as a backdrop. Inevitably film actors lived in the area as well. Robert Donat. Dirk Bogarde, John Mills, and Roger Moore to name but a few. Favourites of mine - scenes in the 1948 film Painted Boats, brief scenes of Bovingdon Airfield in the 1962 film The War Lover, a street in Chesham, which appears as a German street scene in a a 1960's film The Captive Heart with Dirk Bogarde and plans I liberated of a windmill built for the film Those Magnificent Men......, filmed at Booker Areodrome, nr High Wycombe, we used to watch filming during lunch breaks. Needless to say if you need any more info. on canal or waterways scenes members of this Forum are always pleased to help. L.
  13. I had to lift/support the engine if my boat a few years ago and I found a scissor jack worked well, they are small and fit between the bottom of the sump and the base plate.
  14. A bit more than the static shock you sometimes get from car seats etc and a bit less than that given by animal fencing............you always got it when touching the shower controls.
  15. Interesting question, we encountered this problem over several years in a hotel we stayed in in Greece. In the end one guest complained to the Travel Rep and a qualified electrician was called. He found a serious electrical 'leakage' fault and the problem was solved. We were all lucky apparently it could have had serious consequences.
  16. Actually a bit of a quirky addition to the place, they have done really well, lovely chateau, lots of spin off progs featuring other chateau owners and folks booking weddings etc in theirs. No sex no swearing, really quite watchable TV, as is Escape to the Chateau DIY. Spending all that boodle on a Springer - provides cheap accommodation, might be just for their kids to muck about in - I had a gypsy caravan in the garden as a playroom when I was a kid, it was great, wish I had charged the 'peeps' coming into the garden to have their photos taken standing in front of it.................or developed the 'bullsh1t' angle about telling fortunes. Very clever bloke and family, we are the mugs paying too much for housing over here. I look forward to the series where they put a new roof on the 'pile'.
  17. I mount mine in a foil tray, heal and easy way.
  18. I have just watched that prog. I thought the hull testing was 'interesting'...................but the patching up work looked good...........
  19. Hi, I have a Samsung Tablet S4, which is about 12.5 months old, I sign in using facial recognition, this has stopped working as have the front and rear cameras. I have not taken many pics with it and I suspect it uses BIXBY software. Have done a 'hard' factory reset but can't seem to get rid of Bixby and the cameras still won't work. The unit has not been tampered with or dropped. Any tips?. TIA L. PS a 4 year old Tab3 still works well
  20. Yo, Darren at the Marina is good for welding and electrics, Ed's probably the best for Vintage engines. Darren blacked the boat earlier this year and fixed the chimney cover on the roof. He also blacks my boat (and has done so for years), useful bloke to know. Mike (moorings, towpath side).

  23. YO!, Welcome back, good to catch up and the pics. are good. Bought a motor home yet?, hope new house panning out well. Sidney looks good.
  24. Sadly this already happens at Cowroast facilities - a nearby householder improving his property used them as a skip, nobody at CART was interested in the problem, now with some nearby tips charging for rubbish disposal the situation has got worse.
