  1. The canal system seems to be getting cluttered with all manor of signs just lately. These are soon to become a fixed feature. Like the ones at the Old turn in Brimingham. Also the "Welcome to -------" signs at popular places. If you think they are a waste of your money let Sophie.Castell@canalrivertrust.org.uk know.

  2. Well he does have a large caravan park and I think he is putting in a road so he can accommodate tourers. He could be planning on floating house boats as Brian suggested - novel ??

So he has not taken the shop and the dry dock yet?

Yes he has the shop and the dock, CRT will not split the lease.

  3. Just to let everybody who complains about all the boats tied below middle Lock, we have been told to find other moorings.

It is now a boat free zone as from March next year. The new owner has plans and boats don't seem to a part of them. So if you want a bit fun, tie up below Middle Lock and go to the Pub.

  4. Images from 2015 Village at War for anyone interested.

Warning - there are over 600 of them - https://flic.kr/s/aHskgHVTCL

It is not exclusively a boating event although the boats that do come (specifically the historic ones) do add a huge amount to the atmosphere.

For those with an aviation disposition we had a Spitfire (BBMF) at low level on both days, the C47 (DC3) again BBMF and low level, the Red Arrows (no display but just transiting via Stoke Bruerne on Sunday morning), and on Saturday the Vulcan (XH558) on its way back to base (not low level but very visible).

    2016 dates are 10/11-September.

Brilliant photos and an excellent weekend, Thanks

  5. Hmmmmm.

I'm wondering what exactly constitutes a 'boats length of the end of the navigation' when it comes to the Titford Pools. In the past we've winded in the junction just beyond the bridge.

Is the extra 5 or 10 points worth the risk of venturing further?

Went in with Dove last year, just don't go under the M5 unless you're Tawny Owl :)

  6.

There were several entries in the Pets on Boats category. Puking Odin on Chalice managed a magnificent performance on the Titford flight. Bella Basset on Denry had a very nice time with several walks, dodgy knees not withstanding. Golden Boyz golden boys stopped the boat at Windmill End as the running after sticks opportunities were much better than at Hawne Basin. Forum favourite Millie ably guided the crew of Iona through to Hawne Basin as she had heard that Unkle Richard would be there and there might be chips. However, the winner in this category has to be Amy on Peckham Poppy because she is a cat - I like cats

I would just like to put forward my two Tigers, Cheetah and a Panda. Who decided to do a runner at Chasewater reservoir and set us back 10 mins

  7. I didn't know that, thank you Ray

Anyone at Hawne Basin on Monday morning would have seen Andy on Dove demonstrating the use of the cabin rings as he turned out of his mooring.

    Richard

Just make this clear (due to reading the above wrong the first time), I used the backend line to get out of the mooring. :)

  8. A lovely array of w/boats and other boats going past Uxbridge on there way to little Venice. Didn't think the people on Fmc Dove would get under the M40 bridge as they noses were stuck right up.

    Darren

Don't know you, didn't see you, but we will make a special effort on the way back if it pleases

  9. And likewise the poet and the carver, the only difference is that three of them produced accidental art, the latter two deliberate art.

Does that mean you like the gaffeti that's on a lot of the walls, balance beam and the like. That deliberate and looks much the same.

  10. Like I said . . .

It is only your opinion that it is meaningless drivel and doesn't belong there.

If poetry and carving are not crafts then what, in your opinion, is?

The lock gate for one, the brickwork around it and bits of ironwork that hold it all together. Have a closer look at a lock and there you will see craftmanship.

Think about the Brick layer, the Carpenter and Blacksmith back in the 1800's now they produced art.

  11. Hey Dove, I think it's about time you reread your signature line :banghead:

What is on the lock beams is far from a craft, It's meaningless drivel and doesn't belong there, that's my criticisum.

  12. Went through Hillmorton today. Started off with rant and lamenting the absence of any appropriate filler in the boats tool kit, but after reading the text and pondering as we worked through I started to think it doesn't do any harm, might do a bit of good - although the ingenious elegant simplicity of a lock and its mechanisms strike me as being a piece of art in their own right.

Jolted back to reality when we found the elsan disposal blocked and overflowing with sewage. Turns out a traditional rag mop makes a bloody good drain plunger, so left it better than we found it.

Love it, couldn't have put it better myself. If you like "art" etc. go to an Art gallery. If want to see proper art known as craftmanship look how the canal and it's structures were built. I think it's about time some you bought a caravan.

Here have a look at this crap!£60,000 ????
