  1. I managed to turn Fradley junction green at some point years ago. I was looking for a leak in my boat. can't remember the detail
  2. I got £12 each last week. Paid by BACS. Money in my account the same day.
  3. In what way do you want them rating? Birmingham & Fazeley is out usual route. The drug dealers and users are pleasant enough. Never had any issues but we've never moored before we got to the countryside. The Bridgewater to Worsley or Altrincham is safe enough and deep and wide. The Ashton is a far pleasanter experience than it was 20 years ago. All of the industry has gone and much of the deprivation swept away. I've never tried the Rochdale apart from the city centre locks so best for others to comment
  4. I think Birmingham can rightly claim to be a destination with a reasonable amount of mooring space whereas Manchester is just a passage to somewhere else. The Bridgewater is OK until you get to Stretford cruising club and after that I wouldn't think of stopping until I got north of Picadilly station. It's OK around the apartments before you start the Ashton flight and handy enough for the northern quarter and city centre.. The Ashton flight itself is OK these days but there's not really any reason to stop.
  5. Camra did have an app but due to some changes on Android it started to malfunction and so was withdrawn from the Google app store. I think its still around for apple. www.whatpub.com works well, more so if you are a Camra member because you can turn the adverts off and score the beer. It doesn't tell you what beer is on in real time but gives info on what the staple beers are for a particular pub. Camra vouchers are accepted in a lot more pubs than just Wetherspoons. I always forget to carry mine.
  6. It was sold last summer. The volunteer lockies said it was sold for 95K if I remember correctly and the buyer was planning to use it for AirBNB
  7. Given the doom and gloom in this thread you've got to wonder why restorations are continuing. Someone has told me that C&RT are declining to take on an newly restored waterways. Has there been an official statement on this? I can't find one.
  8. I thought Ford had announced they wouldn't be doing any more ICE models On topic, as a leisure boater if licences treble I would probably give up boating. I would favour withdrawing maintenance from the lesser used parts of the system. Of course the arguments will start with regards to defining them.
  9. I heard whispers that it had been sorted out which is why I asked the question. From the lack of confirmation on here I guess not.
  10. Slightly off topic.Has the tax/duty situation regarding HVO been sorted out yet? I've heard rumours but not seen anything official.
  11. The Cotton Arms has a big campsite behind it but seemingly that isn't enough to keep it going. On our last visit no food was available and the bar staff suggested we go over the road.
  12. Stoppage 24/02/2024 from Dane road bridge Stretford to Seamons Moss Bridge Altrincham 06:00 to 18:00 to facilitate Trafford Rowing Club Regatta.
  13. I think the drone footage showed that the gabions had moved.
  14. I hired a boat that had a very tired stern gland. We were alerted to this fact when we got back from a lunchtime pub visit to find the floor at the rear of the boat immersed in water. Our shared boat had a wet bilge. Water ran from the foredeck through the boat in a steel channel and emerged in the engine bilge. One winter the boat was left at a now defunct wharf. I visited to do some work in the bathroom to find the rear carpets under water. The "mechanic" charged with doing winter maintenance hadn't noticed she was sitting low in the water. Mr Nobody had detached the wires from the autofloat. Being a Pat Buckle cheepo build the upstand between the bilge and the back cabin didn't go all the way up to the gunwales and anyway holes had been cut in it for pipework during the fitout. Luckily the winter rainfall wasn't bad enough to take the boat to the bottom.
  15. Either is a possibility. It is inferred that the skin fitting was the cause though. I wonder if the surveyor spotted it but nothing was done about it prior to the sale and relocation. That would explain why the insurance company has walked away.
  16. You beat me to it. Not a lot of ballast either
  17. Well all I can say is six years after the repaint we haven't got any scratches from trees. Plenty of abrasion on the gunnels from lock sides and the bank though.
  18. Tree branch scratches are not inevitable. When you have paid 10K + you don't tangle with trees.
  19. It's difficult to say. I will admit that I cycled in to a car two weeks ago. I was going uphill, head down in the rain, so quite slow. No harm to the qashqai but ended up with a bruised arm and ribs. Those cyclists in the Vid will have learned a lesson.
  20. It's undoubtedly going to be the small print that puts the onus on the owners to keep the boat in a seaworthy condition. Not saying it is the case here but if you can't be bothered to pull your boat out of the water every two to three years to black the hull it's not surprising that the insurance company might feel reluctant to cough up. Buying your first boat from Facebook Marketplace has got to be a huge gamble.
  21. Just this morning a friend was telling me he's got to have a bat survey before he can convert his loft. Apparently, it has recently become compulsory across the borough. Sound a bit expensive just to check for bat droppings.
  22. Progress at last. Photograph shows the first of the bottom gates being lifted out. It gives some idea of how much stonework needs to be removed. Goodness knows where they will put it. The site hasn't enough room to swing a cat. Interestingly, it is Bentley who are doing the job rather than Kier who did the last one higher up the flight.
  23. It's probably eighteen months ago now but we were delayed transiting the tunnel because a fire and rescue rehearsal was taking place. The rescue team came from Newcastle under Lyme and provided there own rescue vessel.
  24. Brazier is poor with lots of cement ash. I shan't be buying any more.
