  1. Stingray, the subject of this thread used to moor next to me on the Coventry canal. At the time the owner's name was Marina.
  2. Not going to comment on the amount of hirings but when we were stuck at the top of bosley two weeks ago there were three heritage hire boats wh o had to abandon ship. What do you think they said to their friends and neighbours? Any chance of a refund as provided by network rail?
  3. I think the only answer is yes C&RT do. We moor on online moorings which are rented from CRT. The price inctreases according to how much comparable CRT moorings have increased. I have two issues with that. One is the unpublished cost of comparable moorings and the other is the level of occupancy. I have passed two online sites this year that have both been dire!
  4. The pumpout at Etruria had a notice on the door saying it was out of action.
  5. I've just arrived home after a dreadful cruise. Sticking on topic the T&M at Etruria is full. Coming south is variable, some pounds full others are significantly down. No rhyme or reason. Stoke south is good until you get to Meaford. Beyond that still variable. Pounds have been lowered below Weston to help with the repairing of the byewash at Hool Mill Lock but all in all cant see any reason to close the Caldon. Drove past Rudyard and it looks OK.
  6. Are they resedential moorings? According to the signage they are long term leisure moorings.
  7. Most is probably over egging it but certainly at least half. I don't remember the towpath being flooded on previous transits when all paddles were available.
  8. There's next to no chance of getting through in two days at the moment. Marple in particular is very slow with paddles chained up on most of the flight. We are heading south and have made it to Congleton. Even here the water is significantly down, probably 8 inches
  9. We are taking water down Bosley on Monday so with a bit of luck things should start to improve by Tuesday
  10. We are chomping at the. bit. The pounds were drained yesterday
  11. Interestingly the Bosley resevoir is currently 2.5 metres down on maximum capacity at the moment. This week last year it was 6 metres down. There seems to be a change in strategy. I believe Combs resevoir is also relatively full.
  12. Having just abandoned our boat at the top of Bosley flight I can say that the levels are around 6 - 8 inches down. Sutton resevoir is empty. Bosley resevoir is currently 2.5 metres below winter conditions. It went to 6 metres below last year. I think CRT are trying to hold back water for peak season. There is some coming in to the top of Bosley but it is probably evaporating as fast as it is coming in. Hoping for good news Tuesday of next week. We are number eight in the queue to get down.
  13. Closed due to water shortage on upper Macc / Peak forest. Will be open again on Wednesday and Friday.
  14. Didn't get to uppermill. Canal was far too shallow and full of rubbish. Turned back at stalybridge
  15. Just encountered a couple who lost their bikes last night at tunnel north Not exactly sure where. Also there is a flasher operating above stoke bottom lock
  16. Yes Btjankyou. Looking to get to upper mill by Friday
  17. Any update on this? According to C&RT a paddle broke mid june causing a closure but no update since.
  18. Since this thread has drifted wildly off course I feel it is ok to point out it is lymm transport festival this weekend
  19. The bell thing is its own can of worms. As a pedestrian you don't know which way to move. As a cyclist, you can't predict which way the pedestrian is going to move or if they are going to move at all. Lots of pedestrians walk with ear buds or noise canceling headphones. Then of course you've got the ones with hearing aids but dead batteries. Worst experience for me so far was approaching horses from behind, walking three abreast on the road. I rang my bell and the middle one bolted. Of course it was my fault for ringing my bell but it's also my fault if I don't ring my bell to let them know I'm there.
  20. You also need to consider how your windows are attached to the steel. If they use self tappers you might find they don't grip sufficiently until they have emerged through your interior woodwork.i ended up drilling oversize holes and inserting smallest size Rawl plugs
  21. A few ducklings about and Goslings. Not many boats though. We are on the Trent and Mersey at Burton
  22. The failure is not usually catastrophic. You might notice an increase in smell because the top plate of the tank has become perforated. Duck tape is your friend!!! You will need to empty it and then attack the top plate which will have all the integrity of a doilley. Once you have got access to the inside you will find there is still plenty of sludge in there. It needs to be empty because it will be very heavy and probably needs to be cut up before you can remove it from the boat
  23. When Ownerships went bust Earl chained up their boats until the owners paid the money owed to him even though the money was owed by Ownerships rather than the boaters. I'm struggling to find any sympathy for him.
  24. I suppose in Ian's case it is a question of are they still functioning? It does look shoddy and being so new I would be looking at a warranty claim but then look to seal the replacements up properly. It's "just" a symptom of the 21 century world we live in. Shouldn't happen but it does.
